She just blinked at Kairi in confusion. “A pillow…what?”

“A pillow fort.” She smiled. “Hmm... How do I explain this. It’s like a tent or something that you build out of blankets and pillows to chill out in. They’re great for cuddling.” Kairi smiles before taking Xion’s hands in hers. “Wanna build one with me?”

“So how do you usually celebrate Christmas?” Xion mused curiously, confused as to what this holiday even was. She blinked curiously at the tree before her, cocking her head to the side like a confused kitten. 

“We bring trees inside the house and put…gifts under them? I-I…I don’t get it.” Her first Christmas was already more confusing than how Axel kept his hair so perfectly spiky all the time…

 Xion silently worked on her part of the project, there was golds and blacks and whites, it was looking nice so far. Then she put her favorite shells around it, lining her part of the heart.

 She made a few small silhouettes of her friends. Roxas and Axel. And her new friends too. All through her work, she found herself giggling, leaning back against her sister who did the same besides her until she was done with her side of the heart, latches and all to put them together when it was done. 

 “There we go. Done! How does it look sis?” Xion asked, showing off her elegant design to Kairi with a shy smile. She blinked curiously, her eyes sparkling with excitement at the thought of another activity. “Oh? Whats gonna be that? Is it more decorating?”

With a smile, Kairi held up her ornament next to Xion. Her heart fluttered when the two halves connected, forming the full heart. It filled her with all sort of warmth and giddiness to see the finished project. “I think it looks great, Xion~” She chuckles. “Yours is really pretty. And they fit together perfectly.” The redhead leans in and places a soft kiss on her twin’s cheek before standing and offering a hand to the other girl to help her up. “I’ll tell you soon. First, we have to hang up our ornament~”

Helping her sister up, she guides her back to the living room by her hand. Even when they get there, she still gently holds Xion’s hand in hers before extending her half of the heart up to the tree. “Lets put them here, right in the middle.” Once there, she takes a step back to admire their work. Then with a giggle. She pulls her twin closer and starts lovingly nuzzling her face. When ever they were this close, she could almost feel the other girl’s heart touching her own. Just like their ornaments. “I can’t stop loving on you, Sis. I think I’m addicted.” She giggled and blushed. Holding her twin as close as possible. “Wanna help me bake some cookies?”

 “Same. It must be destiny th-that we’re together again.” Xion chuckled, adoring all the affection she was given. In all honestly she couldn’t help the need to cuddle back. It was as if her heart pulsed ad fluttered happily when in Kairi’s presence. Maybe they really did make one another whole, just by being so close like this. Either way she didn’t mind at all. 

“That sounds like a perfect plan actually.” Xion mused. They could even fit their parts to match one another so they’d fit and stay aligned once it was time to bring them together. Her eyes lit up once again at the show of shells. A passion the two halves both had. A love for seashells. “Oh wow th-this is gonna be the prettiest ornament yet with us at the helm.” She giggled and reached over, opening cabinet where the coloring supplies were. 

This was gonna be fun.

With a plan in mind, Kairi began to work along side her twin. She started by gathering up seashells with a pink hue to them. That being her favorite color of course. Then set about decorating her half. Lots of warm reds and pinks. Colorful and vibrant for the base color of the heart. Then she went about gluing the sea shells to it. Having some point out towards Xion’s half so they can interlock when they’re hung on the tree.

“There we are.” She attached a hook to it and it was finished. She then leaned on her twin to watch her finish up her own. “Once you’re done, we can hang them up on the tree.” She then waited for Xion by cuddling her up. Nuzzling her cheek and neck as her arms were wrapped around her. Possessively holding the raven-haired girl close. “I have an idea for what we can do after that, too~”

 “I-I like having a sister. You-…You make me really happy Kairi.” Xion murmured, grinning softly and she nuzzled her sis right back, hiding a gentle giggle against her hand as she did so. This-This felt nice. Being wanted, cared for all over again. It was such an exciting feeling to have. It made her new heart flutter in a way it rarely ever did before. “I promise I’ll be the best twin ever! Or w-well um, I’ll try to be.”

 As she was tugged away, the black haired girl squeaked in startled manner, but followed nonetheless. When they came to her room, she rubbed her now free hand against her chin. Something that represented them. “Hmm, what about a heart theme then? We’re two parts of the same heart. Maybe we can split up a heart shaped object in theme it in our own favorite colors, then when it’s time to put it on the tree, it’ll come together like two puzzle pieces?”

“Aww, that’s cute. I like that idea.” Kairi leaned against her twin again and smiled against her cheek. “It’s perfect cause I feel whole when I’m with you~” It felt so good to be around the other girl. It seemed their hearts resonated with each other. This sort of made her constantly want to give her twin affection as well. So she hoped Xion didn’t mind.

“Let’s get started, first we need something we can make a heart out of...” Biting her lip, Kairi began to sort through her craft supplies. “We can use cardboard as a base. Then put stuff on top of it. I’ve got seashells~” She smiles, handing some to the other girl. “Here.” She takes a piece of cardboard and draws a heart on it. Then cuts it out with some scissors and cuts it down the middle. “We now have two halves of a heart.”

 “I just…th-thank you.” Xion giggled softly, a shy blush lining her cheeks. It was so strange, to have a family like this. Before she had nobody except her two best friends, but now? Now she had so many new friends and family, it was almost overwhelming at times, but she liked it. She felt whole. “Oh g-goodness! I’ll have to get you a gift now too!” Xion declared happily, clapping her hands in excitement. 

 “Hehe,I guess so huh? We’re like twins, you and me.” Xion nodded her head. She never had a sister before. It was kinda cool to think of it like that. Plus Kairi was right, if not for the black hair, they would’ve looked identical. “We’ll be the coolest sisters around.” Xion said with a bright smile, playfully leaning back against the other. “Oooh? Like the balls on the  tree? What do you think we should make sis?”

Hearing Xion say words like ‘twin’ and ‘sis’ filled her with warmth. She always wanted a sister, and now she had one. It was a strange way to go about getting a sister. But Kairi had sort of learned to not question fate at this point. They had each other now and that was great. “Then it’s settled, you’re my twin now~” She leaned against her some more, affectionately rubbing their cheeks together.

“Right, like the ones on the tree. But they don’t have to look like the ones on the tree. It can look like anything we want it to look like.” She took her sister’s hand excitedly lead her to her room so they could start right away. “Alright, we need to make something that represents us.” She said as she grabbed all of her arts and crafts supplies. “We’re twins now, so we should go with a twins theme. What do you think~”

 Xion giggled softly as she was hugged, returning it happily with a shy smile on her lips. It was srare when people were so nice to her like this. It was-…it was nice to know her double didn’t find disgust in her existence like she first had assumed. They were friends. Just like Roxas and Axel were to her.

With that she went to work, finding the hooks and doing as showed, placing them on the ball with a smile and happily hooking them to the branches of the tree with a happy hum. This was actually kinda fun. She wondered if Roxas and Axel would’ve liked doing this too.

Wait. Hold on. What did she say?  The double turned her gaze to Kairi in confusion. Now that came out of nowhere, she hadn’t expected that at all. “Huh? Y-You….got me a gift? A gift for me…really?” Xion squeaked out. 

She smiled. Out of the corner of her eye, she could see the shock on Xion’s face. It was priceless. “Yes, I did.” She said in a ‘matter of fact’ sort of way. “Surprised? You shouldn’t be. You’re important to me, you know. More than a friend, you share my memories. And now, you’re kind of like a sister to me. So of course I got you a present.”

Kairi reaches over and softly pokes her double on the nose. “I mean, the whole, ‘us looking like each other’ thing helps with the sister vibe. Don’t you think?” As the box began to become empty. She smiled to Xion and leaned on her gently. “So, seeing as how you’re family now. There’s a family tradition you and I need to do. We need to make an ornament together.”

 “You mean the fruit that connects those who eat it forever?” Xion mused back, cocking her head again in a curious fashion. She then giggled and pressed her index finger to her lips, a sign that her lips were sealed. “I promise I won’t tell anyone as long as you don’t tell Axel or Roxas what I’m getting them kay?” The ebony haired girl giggled softly. 

When the box was set down, the ever curious Xion came over to expect it, putting one hand in to pick out a blue Christmas tree ball and look at it with fascination. She’d never seen something so pretty, it look like it was frosted over with snow. These were decorations for a tree? What a strange holiday indeed. “Yes! I’d love to. I’ve never decorated anything before.”

“It’s a deal.” She sealed the promise by giving the other girl a soft, but snug hug. Hugs were way better than hand shakes in her opinion. She’d then watch as Xion began to inspect the box. “Awesome, decorating can be the most fun part of Christmas.” She took the ornament she already had in hand and moved over to the tree. “See this little hook. Just hook it onto one of the branches.” She then showed Xion by doing it herself. Placing the red ornament on the tree.

“See, simple. Just make sure all the ornaments have are spread out. We don’t want too many in one place, you know?” She then went about placing more of the shiny decorations on the tree. All while watching her counterpart with a soft smile on her face. “You know, Xion. I got you a present too~”

  “I’ll make them a gift then!” 

   Xion’s eyes sparkled with determination. She had gained a little bit of Kairi’s arts and crafts mastery being well…mostly memories of her thanks to Sora. She could make something nice for Axel and Roxas. Something simple like the other girl advised…but what would make them happy? What could she make them from the heart…

 “Do you think I could make key chains for my boys? D-Do you think they’d like that?” Xion mused curiously. “I could make them from scratch! And I should’ve guessed you’d already be ready with yours.” The raven haired girl snickered playfully. “But what’cha get them?”

Kairi smiled and giggled as she saw the spark of excitement ignite in her double’s eyes. It was adorable really. “That’s great, Xion. I’m sure they’d love those.” In reference to what she got Sora and Riku. She looked around cautiously before looking back to Xion. “I made them some paopu fruit charmed bracelets. For good luck, and stuff... Keep it a secret, okay?”

Moving her foot slightly, she accidentally tapped it against a box. Looking down, she saw it was a box of decorations for the tree. “Oh hey...” She bends over and picks up the box, setting it down on a near by table. “Wanna help me decorate the tree?” She smiles and holds up a shiny red ornament in front of her double.

  “Oooh wow. It sounds like an amazing holiday though. Albeit um…a little strange. The tree smells nice though.” Xion giggled softly and gave a shrug, mimicking her mirrored self. She supposed back then it made a little more sense but now people just did it because it was something many generations did before them. Seemed legit-ish. 

 “So, I should get gifts for all the people I care and love fore and…stick them under a tree…Okay, I think I’m getting the hang of it.” She grinned playfully before poking Kairi’s shoulder gently. “Does this mean you’ll be getting Sora and Riku a gift as well~” 

Kairi gave a half shrug. She supposed the tree did smell nice. But at this, point she thinks she’d prefer a fake tree. Cleaning up after a real one was a hassle. “Yeah, that’s the way it goes. You don’t have to ‘buy’ gifts... It can be... Something you make... er... Something with sentimental value. Sometimes simple gifts are the best ones.”

She turns to look at the other girl when her shoulder is poked and lets a sly grin pull at her lips. “Hah, implying I haven’t gotten them their gifts yet. You’ll never catch me waiting till the last minute to pick up presents.”

Kairi stood next to her raven-haird counter part and stared up at the tree, letting out a deep sigh. “Honestly, I don’t know why this is a thing either. I would always ask my grandmother why we would bring a tree into the house. She would always just say ‘it’s a tradition’.”

Kairi throws up her hands and shrugs. “As for the Holiday itself. It’s about... Family.. And togetherness... And happiness... And being nice to people and all sorts of things like that. It’s a time for you to spend time with the people you love and care about. Again, I don’t know why we put the gifts under the tree. But, it’s sort of all about giving. So... We give gifts to each other.”

No one had ever taken the time to notice her eyes. Nor compliment them for that matter, and yet her other half had just said that she had pretty eyes. “T-thank you Kairi, that’s a really nice thing to say. No one has ever complimented me on how pretty my eyes are.” Though Kairi had eyes that were just as pretty, a reflection of her own. Like the ocean.

“Really?” She blushed a little, realizing that yes, she did say that out loud. And she had been staring into the blonde’s eyes for a while. She hoped Namine didn’t think she was weird or something. But it was a shame that no ever told Namine just how pretty her eyes were. Such a deep shade of vibrant blue. “W-Well... Uh... They should.. Cause... You’re very pretty.”
