That she believed in him put Roxas more at ease. It had been so long since theyâd been this close, since they even could be. However, his heart had always held her dearly⊠He was reluctant to let her go, even a little. Even though she was so strong on her own, after everything sheâd been through, he felt compelled to protect her. He felt partially responsible for her disappearing in the first place. After all, wasnât he the one whoâd dealt the finishing blow?
Heat flared through his cheeks as Xion spoke. The kiss was a surprise. Sheâd never done that before, and yet it made Roxas indescribably happy. âXion⊠you donât have to thank me for that,â he said, surprise dissolving into a grin. âI care about you, plain and simple. I canât help it.â Not in the sense that he didnât have a choice in the matter, but because Xion was the person she was, it was hard not to care. They were partners in crime, bonded in a way that Roxas didnât quite share with anyone else.
No, he loved her in a different way from everyone else.
âYouâre my best friend, too,â he said, leaning in to kiss her cheek in return. âJust donât tell that to Lea, or he might get offended.â Axel, now going by his true name, was also important to him, but not in the same manner as Xion. Was it fair that he wanted to spend more time alone with her instead? Now that Isa was back in the picture, it should have been okay.
Xion giggled softly as she pressed a kiss against her cheek inn turn. He was a sweetie. âHehe, I wonât tell him, promise.â She teased, giving his hand a gentle squeeze before falling backwards in the grass with a sigh of content. For now at least, her fear was subsided, his word like a sheild. And right now she could be happy just with him.
âYou know what? Maybe you are right after all.â The ebony haired girl mused as she stared up at the rolling clouds above them. âI mean weâve been working hard right? Weâre stronger than ever and weâre prepared for anything that might come our way, so why not have a break off from it all? Just the four of us you, me, Isa and Lea. We can all go to the beach just like you wanted. If anything happens weâll be ready to fight too, but that doesnât mean we still canât have fun either.â She pointed out.
âPlus I-I um...really wanna make you a bracelet out of shell.â Xion confessed sheepishly.
Are you pro-plaid or anti-plaid?

Forget? Heâd never. He refused. Even when she was fading from existence, he could recall Xionâs crystallized form disappearing from his arms. Heâd repeated her name to himself every chance he could, because he could sense that she was disappearing, and he didnât want to forget. She had always been among his most treasured people, perhaps even the single most important person to him.
âHow could I?â he smiled softly, tightening his embrace. âI never forgot in the first place. Nothing can take you away from me, no matter how hard it tries.â The pain in her voice gripped around his heart like a vice. It wasnât right that she should hurt so much. Roxas, however, would do his best to take that hurt away.
âI wonât let anyone or anything come for you. I promise, I wonât let it happen again.â The first time, he hadnât been aware of it: Xemnasâs plot, the Replica Program, her reprogramming, any of it. He hated being kept in the dark, but no more. He would always be there for his friends, and especially for Xion. He would see their past pain fade away, and make her happy again. Combing his fingers through her hair in what he hoped was a comfort, he continued, âYouâre not going to disappear. This is real. Youâre here, and Iâm with you. Weâre both going to stay that way, okay? Together, like weâre supposed to.â
His words brought a hope to her so little could. Even now, after their victory, it still haunted her...she vaugly wondered if that was some sort of ptsd? Unlike Sora who could brush off any disator with positivity, it-....wasnât so easy when it came to her. How funny it was to be so different from him even though she had originated from his memories.
âI believe you.â Xion murmured with a soft sigh of relief, just happy to have him by her side, a solid rock in a current of thoughts and paranoia. If not for Roxas an Axel sheâd still be half unsure if this reality she lived in was even real. That was how far her fear went...but he was right. Out of everyone who forgot her, Roxas never did. He held onto her memory like a lifeline. He-....He never gave up on her memory.
âThis is real, I know it is because-...because youâre so warm.â Xion giggled sheepishly after a moment. Tipping her head up slightly, he looked up into his dazzling azure gaze. He was always there by her side, always protecting her. There was no truer friend than Roxas. With a timid mile she lent up and let her eyes fall close with a flutter of ark lashes before pecking his cheek in a gentle kiss and lingering there for a moment before pulling away some, her lips ghosting over his fair cheek.
âThank you, Roxas. For being my best friend.â Xion murmured, ignoring the light tint of red now brushing over her own cheeks.

Reading in the Grey Room, while a good way to pass time before Seven handed out missions, had its downsides. More often than not, other members interrupted them with small talk, inane questions, or conversations within direct earshot. A decent glare usually worked well enough if needed, thankfully.Â
Xion, however, was new. Not only that, but she was polite. Zexion looked up from the Lexicon, letting it close and vanish from sight. They could finish later.
âYou are not bothering me,â they answered, âAnd I am, thank you. Are you doing well today, Xion?â
Something about Zex made her feel less afraid than near Saix or the others. He was quiet, never really looking for a fight and more or less just wanted to be left alone for the most part. She admired that an vaugly wondered if the reasoning was he was closer in age than everyone else around her. With he turned to look at her, it wasnât with a sharpen stare an to that she smiled softly in return.
âIâm well, sir, thank you.â Xion mused sheepishly before taking a seat nearby. It was quiet, no doubt nobody had come in yet besides her so far. That was nice. Some peace and quiet was well deserved.
âI was just....dreaming. As silly as that might sound.â Xion brushed a hand through her short raven locks. â...About a boy. D-Do you ever dream, Zexion...?â

Roxas grinned back at her. âHah! Yeah, Iâd believe it.â Riku may have had the title, but he and Xion had some incredible power at their disposal, perhaps even more than Riku. Certainly, if they combined their efforts, but ganging up on the young Master for sure wouldnât have been a fair fight. Roxas was pretty sure he could take the other one-on-one with both of his Keyblades.Â
Xion was nothing to scoff at, either; Roxas remembered when sheâd struggled to summon a Keyblade of her own, and now she not only had no trouble, but she could easily overpower any of the Guardians of Light. (Well, maybe not easily, but Roxas had such complete faith in Xion that it didnât matter.) Her power and his werenât reliant on each other anymore, too; there was no need to worry about an imbalance like when they were in the Organization together. He shuddered at the memories. It had gotten so bad before that one of them might have been comatose for weeks. Roxas was beyond glad that was over.
Roxas sighed as Xion made her point. He knew she was right, too. They were just getting settled into their lives, and the Heartless remained in abundance on multiple worlds. âThatâs trueâŠâ
Xionâs nervousness and confession made Roxas instantly soften. âXionâŠâ He was touched. âI get it. Youâre my family, too,â he said, pulling her into a hug. âI already feel safer knowing youâre watching my back. Weâll look out for each other.â As much as he didnât want to believe it, though⊠he was worried that she was right about there being something worse out there. âWorse than Xehanort⊠I donât want to even think about it,â he grimaced. Even if he denied it, he could feel it, too; there was a storm brewing, and they all needed to be ready for it.
Xion chuckled softly as she was tugged close to the blonde in a gentle embrace. She felt content in his arms, safe and loved. It was the very reason why she fought so hard. To keep them together like this...to make sure nobody ever tore them apart ever again. They were forever bonded and she knew deep down inside that sheâd be lost if she ever lost Lea or Roxas. Just as she was in the Graveyard...a void puppet....she never wanted to be that again. Xion hugged him tight in turn, hiding her face against his shoulder with a shaky sigh.
âWhatever is out there waiting for us, weâll fight it together this time. I-....I just worry that it might come for me again. That-...That youâll forget me for real.â It was in fact her greatest fear. To be forgotten all over again. To look into her best friends eyes and not see happiness but confusion. It was a constant nightmare that still haunted her, even now...
âWhatever happens...you wonât forget me will you, Roxas?â Xion asked quietly, nuzzling her nose against the crook of his neck, as if afraid if she parted from his hold, sheâd vanish from his arms once more.

âMm. Of course.â A hum as his gaze hardened, though not at her, instead her provider of information.
Before sighing and reaching to pat her head, expression softening. âNo, you did nothing wrong. Itâs simply a hard thing to remember, at times. I did have a sister, yes.â
âI guess Xigbar wasnât suppose to tell me that, wasnât he....â Xion could only imagine how much trouble he was gonna be inn after this. âIâm sorry if I brought any bad memories back to you. I bet...she was very pretty an nice jut like you.â

Lea couldnât help but to smile when he saw the look on Xionâs face and the kitten she held in her arms. âWay to make an entrance, kiddo,â he joked as he glanced down at the adorable little animal. âWell, I canât blame ya, but next time, ask me or someone else for help. You couldâve gotten hurt.â He was still smiling though, and his scolding was of the very gentle kind.Â
âDonât tell Isa or Roxas though, theyâd throw a fit if they found out I um...fell out of tree.â Xion gave an apologetic smile.
âYou know how they are, an I wouldâve of course but it looked like it was about to fall. I had to ask fast, yâknow? I donât always go climbing into treeâs.â She teased. âThank you for saving me, Lea.â She giggle sheepishly and hugged him with her free hand.

daemonflorescence answered your ask: "Um excuse me sir? Is it true you had a sister?"...

âNow where did you hear that little secret, Xion?â Not mad, no, though it was hard to disguise the twinge of hurt at the past tense of her words.
âI-...I heard it from Xigbar. Iâm sorry I-...did I say something wrong?â Xion asked quietly, worry already shading over her deep sapphire gaze.

â⊠and thatâs what makes pretzels the ideal beach snack!â Honestly, Roxas wasnât sure how this discussion had started anymore, but he was emphatic nonetheless. Heâd been looking forward to the trip for so long now that he wasnât sure it was ever going to happen, regardless of what kind of planning went into it. He sighed upon realizing his hopelessness; it wasnât as if they couldnât go whenever they wanted, now that they were people again.Â
âI donât get why we have to go through Keyblade training, either. Weâre as good as Sora and Riku by now, arenât we?â He understood that they had a responsibility as Keyblade wielders to fulfill their greatest potential and become masters, but⊠what was the rush? âIf you ask me, we should all have a day off. Itâs been ages since our last vacation, and we wasted almost the entire day.â Crossing his arms, he frowned seriously. âNot this time. I want to make the most of it while we can. Who knows how long things will be this peaceful, anyway?â
Xion had grown use to Roxasâs rambles. He was almost as bad as Sora sometimes but it was those very rambles that made her happy. She enjoyed listening to him grumble or prove a point, even if it was something as silly as beach snacks. He was happy and to her, that was all that really mattered, even if she thought ice cream was better than pretzels but sheâd keep that little nugget of truth to herself or sheâd never hear the end of it. He could debate for hours.
âWe are, who knows, maybe weâre even better than the both of them.â The ebony haired girl teased, wiggling her index finger at the blonde with a soft giggle on her pink lips. âAn if you ask me, itâs that very notion why we should keep on training, Roxas. Who knows when the next threat will show itself, we always gotta be ready donât you think? Sure maybe a vacation would sound good right about now, but we have to stay on our toes just in case. Thereâs still so many heartless about, it might mean the old man wasnât the only bad guy pulling the strings yâknow?â
âI just think...people are scared something else might be coming. Something even worse than before...â Xion explained, timidly tugging on the ens of her skirt. âAnd if thatâs the case I gotta be ready to protect you, Isa and Lea. You guys youâre-...youâre my family now.â

âOh-Oh um, hello Zexion.â Xion gave a shy bow of her head in greeting and when she rose up her head, there was the faintest glimmer of a smile on her pale pink lips. At least she felt more comfortable in his presence than the others.
âAre you doing well today?â Se asked curiously, cocking her head to the side like a interested kitten. âI-I didnât disturb you, did I?â

âHuhâ?!â Lea looked up in time to see Xion come falling down from the tree. His first instinct was to hold his arms out to try and catch her, something that made him stagger backwards from the weight and then fall flat on his ass on the ground. He winced. âOuch. Uh, you okay, Xion?â he asked, concern evident in his voice.Â
Xion squeaked softly as she was caught in Leaâs arms, hugging the small black kitten close to her chest as she landed in her best friends hold. Timidly, the girl looked up, wide blue eyes meeting his worried emerald gaze. âH-Hiya Lea.â She giggled softly.
âIâm okay! Really um, sorry, Lea. I didnât mean to scare you. I just had to save him.â The ebony haired girl murmured, gesturing to the sleepy black kitten nuzzle against her.
