The Last Dinner Party Speed Render

I’ve become obsessed with The Last Dinner Party’s album “Prelude to Ecstasy”, found a great picture of them on Pinterest, and recently found my book on Alphonse Mucha, the artist that everyone thinks of when they think of 1920s advertising. And this happened. The first half of the recording got corrupted so this is just a speed render.

Been working on my values and lighting (with some fun colour work mixed in)

And I only managed to forget to record a tiny bit in the middle!

The lighting was super fun to do on this one too, moodier than I expected but I like it! He looks handsome! And sad lol.

I have resigned myself to Midnight,

His darkness swallowed me,

Hungry mouths in the deafening silence.

I have fallen apart in Dawn,

Their gentle light a comfort,

My gratitude left unsaid.

I have danced in daylight,

Her merry tune carried me,

Too dizzy to realise I was the one falling.

I am yet to encounter dusk,

How will they hold me?

How will I change?

Nessian Pose and Hand Practice

Sometimes when you're too tired to work in one art form you practice another. Wanted to work on some stuff, and made it Nessian.

This turned out cute, practice can be fun!

It became like a cute sticker sheet! I just realised I never gave cassian his wings but this was about posing humans, not illyrians soooo.....

Yeah it’s the “death herself” scene, the moment Nesta decides to fight for herself. Love this scene, love this character, love this book.

There were a lot of things in this one that I am super out of practice at, fun to do a drawing that dragged out all of those old “art knowledge” boxes in the back of my brain that I have left to go dusty. It was a challenge, but never a slog, enjoyed every minute of making this piece.

I was meant to make a cake for my mams birthday, instead I finished this. I guess I’ll wake up early and make it instead.

My father paused his iPad game,

left his seat at the kitchen table,

to tell me about some really good muesli,

that Tesco sent them accidentally.

At lunch with my mother,

as she chastised me for talking to loud,

I looked at her and saw my grandmother.

She didn’t notice my shock.

I am faced with the mortality of my parents.

I will outlive them.

Didn’t think I would.

I did not think I could.

Speed draw face study of how I think Nesta Archeron looks. Was also going to draw Cassian but his face refused to behave and he got deleted.

Had some fun painting digitally, this is way more rendered than I usually do but oooh it scratched that traditional portrait art itch that I haven’t indulged in so long.

I’m so proud of how the rendering on the eyes came out? Anyways yeah I love Nesta. Sorry cassian, maybe I’ll do one of him too if his face decides to behave another day.

I’m passably good at many things. My problem is I’m not great at any of them.

fury and despair,

as if sleeping fitfully,

threatening to wake.

What will become of me,

if she wakes again?

That creature that rages,

that lonely child.

How will she be met?

By someone who holds out a hand,

someone who cowers before her?

Also I rarely do backgrounds but that was a nice challenge for myself! And I like how it turned out!

I just love them together tbh. At the depths of self loathing and there’s someone there to keep reaching out a hand, no matter what. It’s what every person filled with self hate needs but doesn’t want. Because it’s easier to hate yourself than forgive yourself and see yourself as worthwhile. I just love Nesta as a character.

I know this feeling.

I want to capture it.

In art.

In writing,

in paint,

in fabric,

in thread,

in ink.

I get to be here,

now,

twenty-six,

single,

pansexual,

in my pyjamas,

cozy slippers,

in the car at night,

with the middle light on.

empty can of monster in the cup holder.

Half a joint,

and a rollie,

a disposable cup acting as an ashtray in my lap,

notebook supported by it,

and the steering wheel.

The kitchen and hall lights are on,

faint lights from the neighbours,

inky black silhouettes of trees,

on an indigo-grey sky,

misty clouds and scattered stars.

It is all,

beautiful.

It’s mundanity,

and it’s inconsequence,

make it even more so.

I get to be here.

I get to experience this moment.

It took so much to get here.
