Social Media and Online Community Engagement Mastery Journal
At the beginning of the Social Media and Online Community Engagement course, I established a goal to increase my knowledge using different social media community that I am familiar and not familiar. In addition, I wanted to apply said skills to my personal and professional endeavors.
Walking into this course, I executed to use different social media platforms while learning method to reach my audience through different platform I have not used prier to this course. Along with this I wanted to develop some better grounding on how the social platforms I already use operate by the course forcing me to use them more often.
Throughout the course, I have learned this desired skills that I sought out, along with practicing platform I would not tried before. Week one, we explored the general use of social media platforms, reading analytics, venture the realm of marketing a self-brand, and setting up an automated system to upload my published works from my website to the different social media platforms through Klout, Hootsuit, and TweetDeck.
The second week looked at the social media sites that allow multi media functionality. I learned ways to utilize sites like Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and Google + to promote articles, photos and video. In addition, the week introduced internal tools within media platforms, for example, combining Linkedin and SlideShare to create a singular post. Apart of that usage, I learn how to use analytics to figure out the right time and day to post to the different social media platforms.
Week 3, focused on online video, visual storytelling, forum posting, and crowd sourcing. I have chosen YouTube as my main visual ad when it comes to share the contents of my articles. I learned tools to use to make finding my published stories easier. In addition, I post the video and written stories on forum site like Reddit and while using Storify to find and combine online crowd sourcing to form one cohesive story.
Week 4 concludes the course and introduces photo friendly apps and social media platforms. To close the course I wrote an article to promoted said article on Instragram while connecting my profile to the article.
I expectation for this course was met. Coming in, I wanted learn proper ways to share articles on different social media sites, explore new ones, and create habits while sharing these articles. I learned and built a foundation toward forming these skills into a common place. Making post sharing and the proper skills a habit will only aid in my professional development. This touched in the realm of marketing and maintained the use any journalism skills from I learned in previous courses.
