this pic was really fun for me to draw, also, because it reminded me of drawing Thorin in a flower crown from my own comic :D thanks so much for giving me the opportunity to draw that again, darling!

au where bilbo is the only one who dies at ravenhill

and even though thorin has his kingdom back now, a strange sort of emptiness consumes him after the initial chaos of the rebuilding.

a strange sort of emptiness that follows him through his entire rule and even after he steps down.

the line of durin continues on with fili & kili but thorin is the only king to never marry or have children, despite the insistence of his council.

balin & dwalin are the only two advisors to never push because they Know

in his retirement, he finds himself visiting the shire, something he hadn’t been able to bring himself to do

until decades after bilbo’s death.

there, living in bag end, he finds a young orphaned hobbit who shares the same curve of bilbo’s smile. wearing an all too familiar ring around his neck

the same ring he’d found in bilbo’s pocket and sent back to his closest relatives in hobbiton along with bilbo’s 1/14 of the treasure 50 years ago

It's been about half of the first month since Bilbo started living in the Mountain, when he began to notice something strange. An unpleasant feeling, as if someone was watching him from the dark corners of long stone corridors. Sometimes he heard strange sounds like muttering or creepy and raspy laughter, but he knew that there was no one else in the Mountain except himself and Thorin. 

He thought he was starting to lose his mind, and was surprised when Thorin asked to come with him after Bilbo expressed his concerns to the king. Thorin led him to a rickety spiral staircase, that ended in a spacious room with makeshift roosts and nests, and a lot of very curious ravens.

[Considering the condition of the buildings on Ravenhill, I don't think ravens could live there all year round. In winter, they would probably prefer to move closer to the Mountain and the warmth, even if a half-dragon lives there. And Thorin, noticing that dozens of freezing birds were hiding in his corridors, made a separate room for them. And then they gradually got used to each other.]
