To pass the time on long rides, Bilbo starts absent-mindedly braiding Myrtles mane. He does it almost subconsciously and is completely unaware of all the dwarf eyes keenly watching him.
Because they're good braids, some of them quite complicated and no one can understand just how he knows how to do that.
The only conclusion they could come to is that the hobbit must have a paramour back in The Shire, some long-haired lass who he spoils with pretty love-braids.
Thorins temper had been truly foul after Balin had proposed the theory out loud.
After weeks of Thorin sulking, it was ever curious: Ori, who finally asked where Bilbo had learned such intrecate braid work.
Bilbo then flushed and embaressedly explained that he'd learned it from competitive pie decorating.
with how thorin was praising bilbo's courage and wisdom, if he had lived, he would have been insufferable about it. singing praises of bilbo's bravery every chance he gets. he would have had boromir's hide for almost laughing when bilbo volunteered to take the ring if he was ever there at the council
I love how in “The hobbit” Thorin was like:
—Hmm… who could stole the Arkstone? One of the dwarves i’ve known for decades including my heirs… OR the BUGLAR that we LITERALLY hired to STEAL the Arkstone?
—Nah, Bilbo is too cute and funny and gorgeous
and clever to be a traitor.
And five seconds before he was like:
—NOBODY will touch any of these!!! This treasure is MINE and only MiNE! Oh, Bilbo, take this magic shirt that is the second most valuable thing here. You’ll look sexy in it… Safe! I mean you’ll be SAFE with it in a fight!

I love it when Hobbit fanfics destroy the entire plot of LOTR by having Bilbo just. Not go back to the shire

@lesbian-aunt asked for slice-of-life prompts for ficlets, and I gave her "either one or both [Bilbo and Thorin] get caught out in heavy summer rain, (the kind that gets you so drenched in only a few minutes you can squeeze water out of every last layer), but it's so warm they don't mind, not in the way of autumn rain. Setting of your choosing".
She responded with a beautiful little ficlet that I most naturally had to illustrate - you can find it here!
When you're reading a Thorin/Bilbo fanfic, you notice it doesn't have many tags, but the summary is so good that you decide to give it a chance. As you keep reading, you realize the plot is amazing, until certain details start to throw you off. Suddenly, it's mentioned that Kíli and Fíli are soulmates, and you think, "Oh, they probably mean platonic soulmates, or just that they're brothers with an incredibly strong bond. There's no way this is going to be romantic."
But deep down, you know that's probably not the case. You start noticing little hints that make you suspect the author is eventually going to pair them together. Even so, you keep reading, hoping you're wrong. Then the moment finally comes when the relationship is confirmed, and the whole story is ruined for you. You can't stop thinking about that part, and it ends up overshadowing everything else that was great about the fic. In the end, you just drop it and delete it because the idea of Kíli and Fíli as a romantic couple makes you uncomfortable. To you, they're brothers, and you simply can't see them any other way.
The worst part is that this has happened to me far too many times. So many fanfics with incredible, genuinely interesting plots end up being ruined because the authors don't tag from the beginning that Kíli and Fíli will have a romantic relationship. If that information were included in the tags, I could simply avoid reading those fics in the first place and spare myself the disappointment of getting invested in a story I was genuinely enjoying. Has this ever happened to you? And could someone please recommend a story where this doesn't happen, where they're just brothers and the pairing is Bilbo/Thorin?

Thorin tends to look agitated when he’s focused on something, so when Bilbo notices him constantly staring at him, he thinks he did something severely wrong. Bilbo is constantly on edge because Thorin never changes how he looks at his burglar no matter what.
Bilbo, growing increasingly worried, asks Fili and Kili if he did something to upset their uncle.
“He keeps staring at me with these dark, brooding expressions on his face. Do you think I did something to make him frustrated with me?”
Fili and Kili draw sly glances at their uncle and then quickly look at each other, absolute horror on their faces.
“What? Is something wrong?” Bilbo asks.
“Oh, it’s nothing…” Kili says.
The brothers start giggling almost madly.
“Are you going to answer my question?” Bilbo asks, his frustration growing as the two dwarves are giggling and whispering.
“Ah, don’t worry about him. He just…gets like that sometimes.” Fili lies.
“Hm. Okay.” Bilbo responds, seemingly pleased with this answer as he trods off.
“Oh Mahal,” Kili starts (as soon as Bilbo is out of earshot, of course), “He looks like he wants to put several braids in his hair, let alone one.”
“I know!” Fili shouts.
They then spend days on end mumbling and whispering to each other whilst looking at Bilbo and Thorin. This continues until they reach Esgaroth.

I totally see the parallels between these two couples - it really could've been the Arkenstone instead of a rose
I also tried my hand at drawing a short comic for the first time. I hope the concept comes through. Basically, Thorin was a giant, overgrown beast while cursed, but even after the curse was lifted, he stayed exactly the same(mostly because he’s just naturally that huge and hairy anyway)
Thorin calling Bilbo “Master Burglar” when he’s being Serious, Royal and Professional™ to impress his Hobbit
Thorin calling him “B I L B O” when he’s desperate, scared or extremely relieved to see him bc let’s be honest when it comes to Bilbo’s safety & well-being he can’t hold his shit
