"Why is Armand attracted to that old man? He is old???" Is a very funny reaction I've seen people have to Devil's Minion.

Because on a surface level, it does seem thematically interesting. You could talk about vampires forever looking the age that they died, aging, and the natural fetishization of aging an immortal being might have and how that might present, especially in a character like Armand etc etc etc. But also, there are people who want to fuck Daniel Molloy right now.

Like actual normal aged mortal humans. Most of them are significantly younger than 72 year old actor Eric Bogosian. Like ok you can't really argue that Armand wanting to fuck that old man is weird when a large chunk of people came out of IWTV thinking "I want to fuck that old man"

The amount of little goodies that this new trailer keeps dropping… we get the opera singer from s1 berating Lestat!! We know already that he sees Claudia haunting him and this season is gonna be him facing a lot of his ugly past, but this guy yelling at him is so interesting because it really shows how wracked by guilt Lestat is gonna be this season. A minor vengeful kill that Louis was unhappy with finding his way into Lestat’s subconscious to torment him along with his own dead daughter and who knows who else… Rollin when I find you istg. So hyped for this season.

Pretty sure this is Louis going after Bruce- which is going to be so peak and I really hope that’s what’s happening here.

Additionally, look how badass Louis looks!! I’m so excited to see Louis through Lestat and Daniel’s eyes and not his own carefully put together narration, this season is gonna be messy and I’m HERE for it.

I may be way off here but has anyone discussed the idea of Crimson Peak being read as an adaptation of Wuthering heights but from Isabella Linton’s perspective?

I mean you get the young inexperienced blonde who falls for a Byronic hero, sweeping her off to a decrepit mansion on the moors where she discovers he has a *troubling* relationship to his sister. She’s miserable, there are ghosts, and the film literally has another Bronte’s trope of “hiding the secret extra wife in the attic”. Idk gang all that’s missing is Kate Bush and this seals the deal

most analyses of lestat and gabrielle's "consensual" incestuous relationship overlook the fact that gabrielle is the one with the emotional power. her lifelong detachment from lestat's needs outside of her own create a dynamic where lestat is in a state of perpetual age regression because he is willing to accept whatever scraps of affection she might offer. his sexual attraction to her is born from this deprivation. it is an attachment wound that he misinterprets as desire because he has never known love from her in any other form. this also contributes to his hypersexual tendencies and his need for constant physical validation/reassurance because he must be effectively consumed in order to feel loved. this is reflected in his relationship with louis, where he seeks external gratification from antoinette because louis does not meet his extremely specific needs that were encoded by gabrielle. i think it's reductive to say that gabrielle "groomed" him (especially within the book, though this may be emphasized more in the show), but an argument can be made regardless of vampires existing outside the laws of human morality and sexual norms. there is also the issue of enmeshment, as gabrielle merely sees lestat as an extension of herself ("a secret part of her anatomy"), and not as his own person. it's often speculated that the scene where lestat kills the wolves is actually a metaphor for gabrielle giving birth to him, because she is the one who amplifies lestat's sense of violent masculinity as a form of liberation from their shared struggle, so she might live vicariously through him (even though lestat is androgynous and gender non-conforming). gabrielle also experienced gendered violence throughout her entire mortal life and was a victim of marital rape, and she thus views femininity as a form of weakness, so she assumes the dominant role in her relationship with lestat and projects her internalized misogyny onto him. their trauma bond contributes to a disorganized attachment style in which maternal and erotic roles collapse into one another, further destabilizing lestat's agency. i might write more about how this affects lestat's perception of gender later, but for now my main point is that incest is never consensual or mutually empowering, because it is always structured by an inherent imbalance of emotional authority and identity formation that predates any supposed "choice."

Ok question for the Hannibal side of tumblr. Just started watching the show (almost done with the first season) and I’m absolutely obsessed.

As an Anne Rice fan my go to is to recommend the books when people watch Interview with the Vampire, and I just found out that Hannibal is based off of a book series too.

If anyone’s read it, would you recommend? How’s the writing compared to the show?

Saw a post about our profound loneliness as a species (training animals to be our friends, sending messages out to space, seeing faces in everything, wishing there was something else out there) and now I’m wondering how much of that is related to the fact that we haven’t always been the only “intelligent” species on the planet. We used to share the earth with Neanderthals, Denisovans, hobbit people, etc, and now we’re the only ones left. Like how much of our longing for something else is just grief ingrained on a species level?

Our brothers all died and now we look for them in the stars.
