𝐒𝐇𝐄 𝐇𝐄𝐒𝐈𝐓𝐀𝐓𝐄𝐒 𝐁𝐄𝐅𝐎𝐑𝐄 𝐒𝐏𝐄𝐀𝐊𝐈𝐍𝐆, pondering thoughtfully over her next words & the meaning they will convey. lord willas hasn’t given her any reason to be fearful of him, but WHAT’S TO COME does make her nervous. it isn’t just the MARRIAGE, she thinks ; sansa had been well-bred enough to recognize it as her duty, & despite what she DIDN’T know as a mere girl, certainly it couldn’t be any worse than it would have with joffrey. or even what it could have been if he married lady margaery & still took pleasure in using his northern prisoner, too. sansa was grown enough to know about kings & their mistresses, although most of the time those women were WILLING. she would not have been.
‘ i see … & they think i must have gone north ? & with their concerns elsewhere, then there is enough time for us to —— ’
she finds she cannot finish her words. her mouth feels dry from nerves. if lord willas finds he does not like her, does that mean that their engagement will be called off ? she’s certainly in no place to make arrangements, & her father is dead. the responsibility of the union is on house tyrell alone —— with a command, it could all fall, & then where might she be ? back at the ‘ MERCY ’ of his grace ? sansa feels trapped, & chooses her response carefully. after all, if he does not like her …
‘ i’m afraid my interests are very GIRL-LIKE & boring … i don’t want to take your time, since you must be busy with other, more IMPORTANT matters … i will not be a burden … ’
Willas didn’t want to her to feel as if there were motives she didn’t know of, for all he knew his grandmother had her own plans for the northern princess. There was an abundance of uncertainties in this arrangement, while he was his grandmother’s favorite he would never put anything past her when it came to family ambition. There was much he had yet to learn, but having been running the family’s estate and acting in his father’s place he had learned far more than he expected. In his youth Willas had a over inflated ego, something he grew out of when he lost the use of his left leg.
‘ I am sure your interests are just fine, my Lady,” he said as he looked at her with a small smile on his face then spoke again, ‘ you won’t be a burden, I want to get to know you as well as the things you’re interested in. I would like to share the things I like with you as well.” there was whole new world waiting for them in the confines of their soon to be marriage. He hadn’t had a whole lot of time to think about what that would be like, but he hoped he could break her from the silence she’d sat herself in - the fear that sat in her eyes, and the stiffness that was her posture.
“When we’re alone I ask that you speak freely with me, I do not want you to worry about upsetting me, it’s not likely. “ he told her honestly but looked at her seriously.
Starter Call !!!
“Perhaps we may… enjoy it.”

𝐒𝐀𝐍𝐒𝐀 𝐊𝐍𝐄𝐖 𝐇𝐄𝐑 𝐑𝐎𝐋𝐄 well enough, even if the details & the reasoning behind it were unclear. it would be the same role she had been set to play for joffrey, albeit this one seemed a kinder fate. a maiden, a wife, a lady … in due time, she would rise to each of them, even if the WHEN had not been decided yet. WHEN IT WAS SAFE TO DO SO, she supposed, thinking deep down that it would never be safe for her. she may never get the wedding she’d always dreamt of, since everything would have to be kept SECRET as he’d said ; & when she took on his child the crown would know they couldn’t touch her. not as a wife —— as the LADY —— of highgarden.
but it didn’t seem beyond joffrey to have her child murdered. even if, she thinks to herself silently, they can accomplish this much, his rage is never-ending. he could find out & send someone … of course she fears. FEAR is all sansa has ever known. but hiding it is a skill she’s grown into, & despite the relief she feels at having finally left king’s landing, it still grips at her. it wouldn’t be kind to push it onto lord willas, though, so sansa purses her lips quietly & considers saying WHAT HE’D LIKE TO HEAR. after all, that was something she was good at.
‘ i am not afraid of you, my lord. i … i am very eager to marry you. when … might we … ? you said ‘ within the year ’ i may … become a lady. ’
he was happy to hear he didn’t scare her, it was the last thing he wanted. there had been many things on his mind as of late, though as he sat in this carriage with her he couldn’t pin point them from the back of his mind, “after the royal wedding takes place, or just before,” he said to her honestly as he thought about it. It would take sometime for the news to reach kings landing, and if things went his mother’s way then there would be no cause for worry and his sister would still be queen. “this way the queen will be distracted with his nuptials instead of you, in fact, i’ve hired someone to make a false trail of you. they will think you escaped during the night last night instead today. “ he told her lightly, it had been with the help of oberyn and doran martell that this was possible. the two brothers still felt badly about his leg, and under normal circumstances he would not have used it to his advantage - thought this benefited both families greatly. no contract in place, there was the chance a second son of his could marry into the martell family; a truce between the two bloodlines.
willas smiled at her, “it will be sooner than you think, until then we can take time getting to know one another - we were not given the chance. i hope you’ll share some of your hobbies with me and I’ll do the same,” he told her.

𝐒𝐇𝐄 𝐖𝐀𝐒 𝐆𝐎𝐎𝐃 𝐀𝐓 𝐊𝐄𝐄𝐏𝐈𝐍𝐆 𝐇𝐄𝐑 𝐇𝐄𝐀𝐃 𝐃𝐎𝐖𝐍. where once sansa had felt herself the center of attention ( as she had been told time & time again, that she was beautiful & lovely ), she now clung to the shadows for safety. they were SHELTER & they were COOL, not like the burning heat of many sets of eyes on her. she remembered the day she had pleaded with the king for mercy upon her father, & the eyes of all the lords in king’s landing had turned to SCORCH her with anger. A TRAITOR’S DAUGHTER. it was as if they felt they might pierce her just from a look.
& even in the safety of a carriage, where only the lord willas & his servants know of her, she is still quiet & shy. she does not look him in the eye, but takes his water skin & drinks long from it. WATER SHOULD WASH THE MEMORY AWAY, she thinks, but it doesn’t. when she hands it back to him, her nervous hands know no respite, & she begins to twist them in her lap anxiously. the thoughts persist. sansa wonders how long she’ll have to keep her head down in highgarden —— how she’ll have to avoid the FIRE that others would throw if they knew she had been stolen away to reside among them. certainly, she won’t be allowed out, where others can see her freely …
‘ i’m fine … my lord … we’ll have to keep it secret that i’m in the carriage when we arrive, won’t we … ? & from then on, too ? ’
wilas didn’t like the idea of keeping her a secret, but until things were settled it would have to do. he was doing things his way, and until he and sansa were wed they would have to be quiet about who she was. there were spies in every corner, and while he had no need for winterfell or the north - he new it was a commodity that many wanted for their own. ‘ we will, but only until we are wed, once thats done we can assure your safety more readily.” he said as he looked at her, she looked so meek sat across from him - so much younger than him and it nearly made him uncomfortable at the mere thought.
a part of him wished garlan hadn’t married so quickly - then they could marry her to him. someone more suitable to her age and not a cripple, someone deserving of her in a way that he wasn’t. willas smiled a little. “you will be the lady of highgarden within the year if things go to plan, i do not want you to fear me. that would not bode for a happy marriage,” his parents hadn’t been in love, in fact he was certain his mother loathed his father more often than not but she did her duty, two sons and a daughter - isn’t that what all lords wished for?

𝐒𝐀𝐍𝐒𝐀 𝐃𝐈𝐃 𝐍𝐎𝐓 𝐔𝐍𝐃𝐄𝐑𝐒𝐓𝐀𝐍𝐃 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐏𝐎𝐋𝐈𝐓𝐈𝐂𝐒, as a young girl TRAPPED in her position wasn’t like to. she recited words amiably, showed the politest courtesies to all she met, & wore her mask like it was ARMOR. she understood nothing of politics or motivation —— other than the warnings she had been given about LIARS by littlefinger & MONSTERS by the hound. in which case, sansa wondered, was everyone simply out to lie & kill ?
the tyrells did not seem that way, & although she had been crushed into the back of a carriage uncomfortably, sansa still believed them good people. her mind might’ve never connected the political gain ( things like armies & claims to territories & thrones ). her mind was elsewhere, now —— in the roses of high garden, which were bright, sunny, & fragrant, in comparison to the cramped wooden BOX in which she found herself.
if there WERE politics involved, why should she care ? & if things were as littlefinger & the hound had said they were, & she were to be killed off by the tyrells, sansa was not sure she would mind. at least they would show her a merciful death, unlike joffrey would if she stayed … or if he caught her now, trying to leave. she was happy simply to have a way out.
IT TOOK A WHILE BEFORE THEY WERE FAR enough out that he felt comfortable having the journey stopped. Once slowed down a few servants who came to the carriage with a hair covering for her and he waited for them to do as they had been told. Knowing she was safe was enough to keep him comforted, but her staying there the whole time was entirely unrealistic. When the door to his litter opened he adjusted and waited for her to be ushered inside. He’d closed the curtains to the inside, her being seen would be the end of them. He knew that they’d send someone to fetch her, and while he was good with a sword his leg left him vulnerable.
“I’m sorry you had to be so uncomfortable, my Lady,” he spoke to her gently then took the water skin from his hip then offered it to her, it was warm and the last thing they needed was her ill from dehydration. It’d do them no good if they had to seek a healer so soon into their trip. He knew it was an inevitability with his leg, and how sore it already was.

SANSA STARK
Oh how wonderful it all was, this feeling that bubbled inside her with warmth && soft excitement. heat rushing to her face to color her a soft pink. he never ceased to amazed her, to make her feel like she was special. Her eyes resting upon his hands, closing so gently around her own && she smiled, more genuinely, more real. She failed to remember a time she felt a smile more real to reach her lips, to remember a time she was treated so softly.
“ I would love it so !! It’d be so good to hear from her.” her free hand reaching up to fall on top of his, the warmth of his skin a wonderful comfort && she believed more each second that she was to be happy here, with him. && oh how right she was, when blood rushed back to her face && she felt wonderful about the flush on her skin. The feeling of his lips pressed against her skin felt like the most gentle of gestures.
“ that sounds delicious, my lord.” the softness of her voice laced with shyness still but her hands were yet to move from his. “ I only wish to enjoy more of your company.”
Willas was hopeful for their relationship, a marriage built up on the wants of other people was never a good one. At least, from what he could see with his own two eyes. He’d spent the majority of his time before this talking with friends who came to visit, the stories they told him painted an awful picture of the future to come if he didn’t pave the way for something happier. There were many things in life he wanted, love, children and a life without pain. With the latter not possible - he figured making the two former a necessity for his future.
“ Perfect. I want to enjoy your time as well, lady sansa,” he smiled at her genuinely, he worried for a long while if he would like her or if she would be able to talk with him but so far things had been better than he could have ever hoped for. “ have you found everything to your liking so far? I’ve called for the seamstress to come and take your measurements. You’ll need new gowns and day wear eventually - so its best to have them for when the occasion strikes. ”
He walked with her to the dining hall and took a seat as lunch was being served, it was chicken sauted in sauce with some steamed vegetables and pasta on the side. There weren’t many things he craved, but this was it. A favorite meal for him usually included some kind of poultry, “ is this alright, Lady Sansa? Its one of my favorite dishes, I figured I’d see if you liked it too. “
General PSA: I’m totally fine with starting over! If we tried to write together once before and the thread fell flat or got dropped, I’m game to try again. Not all first interactions are going to be golden, and sometimes it takes a few tries for us to understand how our characters might merge together in writing. I’m still interested in roleplaying with you, so feel free to send asks / like my starter calls / hit me up in the DMs!

It was embarrassing, in all truth, how her mind had failed to fall on her bastard brother, who had gone farther up north to join the black brothers, make of himself a member of the Night’s Watch && he should be alive, he MUST, for he was as of now Sansa’s only family she had left. “ it is true, he must know of where I am, I should write him as soon as possible.” && at this, a ghost of her old smile reached her lips, painted her face a bit more beautiful.
One that grew larger as she passed over his words again, && her face gained a bit more of color, her eyes a bit more of light. Oh how had Lady Margaery been right, she will be happy in Highgarden. “ I believe there are still good people, my lord, for you are one of them && your sister, she was so kind to me as well.” even The Queen Of Thorns, with her intense eyes and terrifying presence, she to had been nothing but kind towards Sansa.
Willas reached for her hand and grasped it within his, “ if you wish to write margaery && I will send your letter with my own. I’m sure she would be quite happy to hear from you, ” he was sure his sister needed a friend while in the pit full of snakes; there was no doubt about it. He often wondered if he’d made a mistake by keeping silent when their grandmother’s intentions for his sister became clear , he’d be damned if he ever did so again.
There were many things that had to be done in the city yet && he wanted to properly introduce her to the people of highgarden as his wife. There had been so many who assumed he would never marry ——– especially after his small romance with a woman from the bay nearby. She’d left him after prospects of his leg getting worse arose && Willas’s refusal to compromising his leg for the sake of his pride && dignity.
He wanted her to feel comfortable enough with him that she would ask anything of him. While he may not be a romantic he had a duty to his wife && he’d show he nothing less than what she deserved. As the future Lady of Highgarden, the utmost respect && fidelity. Pressing his lips to her forehead he smiled a little before seeing the servant waiting for them.
“ Come, lets have lunch. i heard that Garlan went hunting so we’ll have deer for lunch && dinner. ”

𝐓𝐎𝐌𝐎𝐑𝐑𝐎𝐖 𝐖𝐀𝐒 𝐒𝐎𝐎𝐍. tangible, almost, like the feeling some men said they got just before it rained. a deep feeling in the bone —— something that, in sansa, twisted itself into fear & excitement at once. already, she had gone through the things she might take with her if she ever had the chance to escape. her book of songs, her needles, & a dress ( although sansa decided that she would select something she thought HE liked, more than the one she had wanted to wear herself ). if only she had learned to defend herself ; even without knowing how to use her father’s reliable sword, if she just had something, she would feel secured.
but she felt certain she could hide well. if need be, she would bury herself with straw in the back of a wagon to leave. little was below her if it meant she could finally ESCAPE. sansa cleared her throat gently, but looked back down to the flower in her hands before she ever spoke again. THIS WAS MORE THAN DECENCY. this was kindness. sansa was sorry for his leg, but if she could will it she would have had songs sung of his kindness ( if they even sung songs for it ). he was a greater man of HEART than many she had known.
‘ i will try, my lord. i won’t forget this meeting. ’
𝐖𝐈𝐋𝐋𝐀𝐒 𝐊𝐍𝐄𝐖 𝐓𝐇𝐈𝐒 𝐖𝐎𝐔𝐋𝐃 𝐖𝐎𝐑𝐊 - 𝐁𝐄𝐂𝐀𝐔𝐒𝐄 𝐈𝐓 𝐇𝐀𝐃 𝐓𝐎. they needed nothing short of a miracle, in the travel carriage there was a compartment in the seat plenty big enough for her to hide till they were a decent ways from king’s landing. perhaps having her dressed as a servant would be a good idea as well - if they were caught smuggling her out of the city it could mean war for them. the lannister’s didn’t have the army that the tyrell’s did, however , they would lose their backing and without them the war against the north would be lost.
when willas woke the next morning he knew they were to be departing quickly, there were servants moving his things out to the cart and he was told by one of his grandmother’s servants that she’d been sent for and that everything was still moving smoothly. once he was dressed he began to walk out to the carriages, there were two of them, one, he hoped was carrying sansa stark and the other carrying his belongings.
