āChristian Horner is married to Ginger Spice and yet Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff, aka Racing Arnold Schwarzenegger, lives rent-free in his head.ā
This quote from The Guardian had me wheezing!!
the thing about racism is, if you ignore, it doesn't go away. it's easy to say don't give bernie ecclestone attention he's halfway to the grave anyway, when he's already made sure his agenda is well alive. his wife is already at a significant position in an organization that protected a man who just robbed a record-breaking championship from a black man, in front of the entire world and would do it again, when needed. there's still people out there who refuse to acknowledge lewis' experiences just because he's successful. you're telling me these people are going to support him and cheer for his success?
if you want to know how much of a racist bernie ecclestone isā¦
SIR LEWIS HAMILTON received the Honour of Knighthood for āservices to motorsportsā | Windsor Castle; December 15, 2021
itās fixing central across all the sports this week šš corruption of the highest order. At least UEFA acknowledged it. as for a certain motor racing governing body, comeuppance will come soon I hope
Today my dad was watching the race with me. He isnāt much of a fan at all and all his experience with the sport is pretty much just the handful of races heās watched with me over the years out of boredom. Today my dad was jumping and screaming on the last lap like heās been invested in this for years or like Max was his freaking son. Michael Masiās desicion was unusual, and very very brave, but it was also a sound decision that created something, a moment of excitement and craziness, that could cause someone like my dad or the thousands others like him watching to decide to watch this sport for the rest of their lives. Some F1 fans today have been crying and complaining and thinking this sport has put itself in some sort of difficult situation, but outside the echo chamber of this bunch with this thinking, this sport will have more people tune in to watch it next year than if the race ended behind the SC, whether you like it or admit it or not.
and theyāll all tune out once they realise this type of rule bending for drama that weāve seen this season isnāt the norm. FIA have undone all the marketing because the drama regarding stewarding this season will mean changes in written sporting regs so theyāre a lot more clear cut to protect the race director, esp if Merc take the FIA to court. So yeah they might tune in, but theyāll tune out just as quickly once they realise weāre back to āboring old F1ā.
Also, why do people think itās right to artificially set up a situation like Masi did to appease casual viewers? This isnāt a movie or the WWE. If people want that type of entertainment, they can find it elsewhere, but not in F1. If people didnāt like the sport being played out all these years, itās not right to say okay letās play it out unfairly so people will be interested again. There should be better marketing strategies than jeopardising the integrity of the FIA.
They also didnāt have to end under an SC. Couldāve gone green w/o unlapping and no one wouldāve complained because itās part of the rules. If causal viewers donāt like that, they know where the door is.
I donāt understand why ppl think this contrived situation was in any way good for the sport long term.
"I donāt think Masi was trying to favor one driver or the other. As his radio message to Toto Wolff suggested, he was trying to let the two title contenders race it out for one last lap to decide who was champion. Thatās almost admirable. But the way that came about and the scenario it created leaves him wide open to criticism, and both title contenders hurting. And thatās just such a sad way for this year to end. Verstappen is hurting because he had to spend the first four hours as world champion waiting for it to be confirmed rather than celebrating freely, and now faces another wait to see to what the appeals process will be. Hamilton is also hurting because a race that appeared to be his was then snatched away from him on the last lap as Verstappen took full advantage of a situation that the regulations didnāt appear to permit. Verstappen did nothing wrong. Hamilton did nothing wrong. Red Bull did nothing wrong. Mercedes did nothing wrong. They all played the hand they were dealt, but whether that hand should have been dealt in the first place is what is now up for such controversial debate. The only entity that might have done something wrong is the FIAās race director ā or race control as a wider group ā and that just isnāt the way this season should have ended. It doesnāt do it justice."
Chris Medland (x) 's OPINION: Did it really have to end this way?
just here to say F1 yesterday was a shit show and if Masi keeps his job, I will refuse to watch. Heās cocked it up all season. Max didnāt deserve to win like that, because thatās all everyone is going to remember. He deserved to win and be remembered for how well heās driven all season. Lewis didnāt deserve to lose, and he definitely did not deserve to lose because the race director setting up an artificial one lap shoot out whilst he was handicapped (because of the FIAās indecision and inability to follow their own rules, might I add). What I mostly donāt understand is the article about Race Director Discretion in applying the Safety Car. Surely the rule means the director can control whether it gets sent out or not and how long for, not change regs about how many cars unlap themselves. It also really grates me that the decision Masi made only benefitted P2 in terms of overtakes. Sainz and Tsunoda couldāve battled with each other and Max for better finishes if all the cars had unlapped, but it seems they were just forgotten about, making the situation all the more shitty.
I donāt begrudge Max because he did what any driver would have in his situation. But Masiās bad race control might cost him if this goes to court and that is very unfair to him.
All in all, a really awful day for long term fans of the sport. It was clear that reeling in casual viewers by orchestrating a spectacle, against the conventions and rules, was more important to the higher powers in F1 than the integrity of the sport. It sets a disgusting precedent that the rules are only selectively applied and can be bent at any time. If Merc appeal or sue, the sport is in big big trouble and all the āentertainmentā they provided will be limited to this season only because, I can imagine, we will see a regulation change so rules are more stringent in the future. So thanks Masi, youāve ruined F1 as we know it. Think itās time to hang up your hat.
Thank you for coming to my Ted Talk.
Fully agree with all things mentioned here.
Red Bull has had superior strategy to Mercedes this season and there were multiple times Ive yelled that they deserved the championship but NOT. THIS. RACE.
This was Lewis and Lewis only.
The winner was decided by Michael Massi and no one else. A decision that should never in any sport be allowed to be made from the hands who are hired to make it fair.
Exactly that. There was no strategy issue on the Merc side of things, because they strategised according to the rules. But now, even strategising according to the rules is an uncertain decision because the rules can be applied selectively and on a whim. What grates my gears more is uneducated one season wonders that act like theyāve watched more than just this season and drive to survive, call merc out on a strategy that wasnāt flawed.
thinking about how verstappen has almost never overtaken hamilton without incident this season and meanwhile perez and hamilton were doing like figureĀ skating ballet racing without any contact
George has been vocal about the disastrous work that the FIA did the past weekends and he is once more - the fact that the FIA doesn't listen to the drivers tells you all you need to know
Friendly reminder that he is a GPDA director, responsible for standing in for the drivers interests and safety, its his job not a fucking Mercedes PR stunt
This tweet is so funny and so devastating at the same timešššššššššš
