This is not going to be a post about tnbc. (I mean it kind of is but that’s at the end)
I watched Christopher Nolan’s ‘The Odyssey’ today, it was not very good. In fact I would say it was bad. But I will not get into all that rn, I am here to talk about Epic: The Musical.
Epic is one of, if not my, favourite musical OF ALL TIME. I have listened to it countless times with my sister and my best friend. I love it so much (honestly if you want to watch a odyssey adaptation, just listen to Epic instead of dealing with The Odyssey but idk man) Now as I said Nolan’s the odyssey was not good, but one thing that stood out was the soundtrack, it was not good, most of the time it was just pounding drums and sticks which doesn’t sound great, there is one good musical compliment I can give it, and it is stolen from Epic The Musical.
In Epic one song is pivotal to the story, Just a man shows the change in Odysseus and what he is willing to do to get home, the motif of that song is played throughout Epic and it is a very simple 4 notes A, F, E, D. It is very powerful. The ONLY musical phrase in The Odyssey that is good (in my opinion) is almost identical with it being Bb, F, E, D and Nolan and Ludwig RUB THAT IN! IT PLAYS EVERY TIME THERE IS A PIVOTAL SCENE! AND DONT TELL ME THIS IS COINCIDENTAL THERE IS NO WAY ON EARTH THAT ALMOST THE IDENTICAL MOTIF IS PLAYED IN SOMETHING THAT IS LOTTERALLY ADAPTING THE SAME STORY THE CHANCES ARE INFINITELY LOW! This would be totally fine IF they gave proper tribute to Jorge, which to my knowledge, they still have not done.
And for the proof? Search Just A Man (2:17) or Would you fall in love with me again (4:40) by Jorge Rivera Herrans and skip to the time stamps I listed and then listen to Ludwig Göransson’s Trial of the bow/ Vengance and skip to 2:30
I will now list my opinions on what if TNBC was epic. (I will have some overlaps as TNBC doesn’t have many main characters)
Odysseus: Jack Skellington
This is not based on my AU. I feel having Jack as the main character who goes through this huge arc that is pivotal to his character is fitting and him turning into a monster in the end is very believable as in the games it doesn’t take a lot of evil for him to beat children so if this happened to him he would go berserk.
Despite the obvious reason why this should be the case. Sally is also a very strong lady who I can totally see standing her ground against a group of suitors since she stood her ground against Dr Fink in the movie. I can see her holding out for Jack to come home since she did that in Oogies Revenge.
Telemachus: Lock Shock and Barrel (Barrel specifically)
They’re kids who are very silly but can still stand their ground in a fight (also y’all think they would’ve been taken in by Jack after the movie I don’t but whatever) like Telemachus but Barrel especially is very innocent and I could see him specifically try to defend Sally, who took them in, from dangerous people/men (the other two I could see in more fitting roles) All three of them I could see stepping up against my Antinous (whom I will mention later) ESPECIALLY after the events of the movie.
Polities: I don’t know, Zero?
Zeros is the only person as undeserving of death as Polities. (Tell me who you think would be a better fit for Polities in the comments lol)
He is LITERALLY Jack’s right hand man. At the start Eury was Ody’s biggest glazer like Mayor is so I think this is very fitting, I would also pay for an arc where Mayor finally realizes that Jack isn’t the perfect king he believes he is. Also it is very fitting that in Luck Runs out and Mutiny Eury is very anxious and specifically in Luck runs out he is trying to do the best for Ody like Mayor is all the time.
Not only the smartest town resident but also a strategist who puts emotions on hold to do what he believes will give him the most strategic approach to a problem as he uses Sally for his own benefit. He is also quite ruthless but after spending time with the kiddos in Kingdom hearts he becomes less of a manipulating ruthless man and becomes more of a person, which is the same type of arc as Athena in Epic.
I dont think I need to explain this. Ruthlessness is mercy upon ourselves
Tiresias: Zeldaborne and Helgamine
The two witches who can tell the future and would do anything to help Jack? Yep that’s Tiresias.
She is the only one I can see fitting this role someone who is against humanity and men. Thinking that the actions of one man define the rest and that men as a whole are savages who cannot resist their primal temptations. And she is also willing to do anything to protect her brothers in this case.
Antinous: Also Oogie Boogie
He would be not one but 2 of Jacks conflicts. He would immediately jump at the opportunity to get the throne of Halloween after Jack was thought to be dead. He is greedy and evil this would ALSO allow him to serve as an antagonist for LSB at the same time >:)
