I know that some people were wanting a spot to chat that wasn’t Tumblr or Twitter. I’ve discussed chatrooms with some of you, and I’ve also heard from a couple of people on AO3 who would love to talk about Dark Matter but don’t do the Twitter or Tumblr things, and worry that we’d talk far too much (and too hyper) for Reddit or the other Dark Matter locations.Â
As it turns out, http://www.darkmatterfans.com/ has a cool little forum area and chat, right on the site. It’s been really underused, and I think this would be a cool opportunity.
Pop on in, check out the forums, and maybe we’ll find some time to chat! Let people know, especially those not on Tumblr who might be interested in having a place to chat with other fans.
There was so much going on in this episode! I was trying to live tweet but after a certain point I couldn’t keep up with tweeting because I was just hanging on.Â
When the episode first started and the creepy lady (do we know her name?) was looking at the picture of Five and said “Hello, pumpkin” my mom wailed, “Oh nooo, *pumpkin*!” and it was really funny. I’m really intrigued to find out why she’s interested in Five, since episode 1 was basically like “you’re an orphan with no significance”. I wonder if she’s after the dimensional key Five stole that got her friends killed?Â
The interrogation scene alternating between Two, Three & Four was really fun & reminded me of the scene from Season One when the Android was interrogating all of them about the memory loss. I also loved the scene between Three and Commander Truffault, although there was one thing - she says “I expected Two” but I wasn’t aware that she knew about the numbers thing?Â
When I saw the glowy green thing in Three’s eye in the trailer I had assumed it was something bad, but it turned out to be something helpful - also, Three’s drawing skills are impressive.Â
My very favourite part of this episode might be when Three accidentally refers to the Android as “the Android - I meant robot” or it could be Five + Bubba taking down Misaki Han during her swordfight with Four - which, how great was it to see Four with a sword in his hands again?Â
I was really really sad about Anders being shot - I’m hopeful that he recovers or that it turns out he has a twin brother or something because Jeff Teravainen was so great! I would love to see him return to Dark Matter in whatever capacity.Â
Also, I loved what little we saw of Devon and I’m glad he sort of accidentally ended up escaping with them. I was seriously impressed by him standing up to Misaki Han about moving his patient - normal people don’t tell people armed with swords that they can’t do something. I’m hopeful he’ll be more prominent in the coming episodes now that he’s one of the few people on the Raza and not just another guy in a giant prison.
I’m disappointed they didn’t show the crew having more of a reaction to One’s death. Maybe it’ll be at the beginning of the next episode but idk. There should be something not just “yeah, we knew him” while watching the news.Â
One thing I was surprised by was Arax Nero joining them on the escape - I thought Mike Dopud was just guesting during the prison episodes, because there were announcements about Nyx & Devon joining the crew of the Raza and then a thing about him but I wasn’t aware he’d be on the show long term - although with the body count we’ve racked up in only 2 episodes maybe he won’t be around long term. I was really surprised that Commander Shaddick is already dead - I kind of thought she’d be tracking them down all season long, but, uh, nope. I’m glad Misaki Han got taken out by Bubba so she’s around to hunt Four another day because to lose all the new antagonists by the second episode would be something...Â
Also, I feel like we’ve seen most of the trailer footage already, so what does the rest of Season 2 hold in store for us? Â
watching 2x01 with the parents, who were out of town this past weekend. Five cracks Six’s file and says “you’re not gonna like it” and it cuts to commercial and my parents both groan like it’s the cliffhanger ending.Â
I’m like “chill, you’ll find out in five minutes”
So my best friend came over last night to watch Dark Matter with me
and every single time One went to open the door to his fancy hotel room I flinched. Every time. He opens the door like 4 times and even though I knew it was way too early in the episode I flinched like maybe it had changed since yesterday and he got shot earlier...
FIrst of all, if any of you guys are on twitter and not live-tweeting with the cast & crew & fans, you’re missing out. It’s such a fun time and there’s such energy.
I really loved the introduction of Nyx! Her abilities to keep up with Two are really impressive based on what we know about Two. Perhaps Nyx is another biosynthetic organism? Maybe the two of them have history, which Nyx knows Two doesn’t remember? Whatever it is I’m down with shipping Twyx. I’m really glad there’s another woman on the crew and can’t wait to see what she and Five make of each other.Â
I also really liked Devon but I had a feeling I would. (I can neither confirm nor deny a crush on Shaun Sipos...) I wish we’d seen more of him this episode but also there was so much going on.Â
Three was so perfect in this episode, my very favourite was when he finished folding the last thing and then the look on his face when the whole new cart was brought in. Or maybe when he was objecting to Two being friends with Nyx because “She’s mean.”
We didn’t get to see a lot of Four but he tends to be rather quiet & backgroundy? Loved his confrontation with Arax Nero.Â
I still haven’t quite forgiven Six but also I feel a bit vindicated because months ago, right after the finale, I was talking with my Dad and said I thought maybe Six had been an undercover agent for the GA the whole time and I was right about that! I let myself be talked out of it because he had actually lost his memory and wouldn’t have remembered being undercover. But I was right! I really loved Jeff Teravainen as Lt Anders - he was such a wonderfully complex character and you could almost feel his frustration with Six’s memory loss like “we’ve had all these arguments before”, like I’d love to hate him for being instrumental in the capture of our crew but I couldn’t help liking him. Also, he fixed Bubba’s battery!
I’m still kind of reeling about the ending. I knew there would be a shocking reveal because it’s Dark Matter, that’s just how it is, but I never thought they’d actually go there. I’m pretty sure he’s really dead (I’ve seen a lot of denial...) because he wasn’t just shot once or twice but multiple times to the chest and then a shot to the head = not exactly survivable for people who aren’t like Two.
When I woke up this morning one of my first thoughts was about how the last time Three saw One they were pointing guns at each other. I shipped them once upon a time and now, this... Which also leads to wondering how/when the crew will find out he’s dead and how they’ll deal with it.Â
My brother and I were debating last night about Jace Corso’s motives - is it simply that he’s been tracking the Raza all this time and finally caught up with them again? Did he learn about One’s true identity as Derrick Moss and kill him to take *his* place?  I’m mainly wondering because it wouldn’t be hard for Corso to pose as One/Derrick Moss since “I don’t remember, I have no idea what you’re talking about” is a thing One keeps saying to those who knew Derrick Moss. DId someone hire Corso to kill Derrick Moss - maybe One was hiding out on the Raza under an assumed identity partially to get away from someone who wanted him dead?
The premier is tonight which means it’s time for some last minute predictions!
Predictions:
Pretty sure the crew meets Devon because of Three getting into a fight. Whether Devon is involved in the fight or just helps patch people up after? *shrug*
I predict that One has been returned to the Moss estate which is why we don’t see him much in the trailers.
Three = Titch, who left the farm to join the military and then eventually became a mercenary.
Questions:
Why is FIVE not in jail with the rest? Is it because she’s a kid? Does Hyperion 8 have a separate juvenile facility? Is it because she has access to their memories? That would make Six’s betrayal so much worse!
How do we meet Nyx? She seems awesome, but how does she get close to the crew?
How/why is Six aboard the Raza later in the season??? I can’t imagine anyone forgiving him well enough to trust him after that betrayal.
