Types of Protective Magick:

Apotropaic: Usually in the form of amulets, written charms; used to turn away an undesired force. Examples include the Gorgoneion, a holy scripture (such as the Bible, Quran, Havamal, the Bhagavad Gita or the Devi Gita), Iron or Iron-Based Items.

Decoy: Instead of the Malefic Force hitting the practitioner, it gets distracted with an item or representation. Like a poppet, piece of meat.

Spirit Trap: The Malefic Force is given a distraction that prevents it from hurting the practitioner. Can include a layered plant like onion. Some make use of grains of sand, salt or rice which supposedly forces the spirit to count it rather than enter the house.

Offering: An item that is desirable is placed outside the house, the spirit partakes of that rather than entering the home. Especially suited for the Deipnon.

Warding (Spatial): Items are placed around the space that set up a protective barrier. Can become an issue when filtering, make sure to set the intent that malefic is kept out and benefic is allowed in.

Guardians: Statues can be infused to keep watch, allowing good in and evil is warded off. Some animals are very lucky and can be used for magnetizing and pacifying (reducing negative qualities and instilling positive ones in the home)

Floor Washing: Particular herbs or items are noted for their protective qualities. Might not mix Fire Herbs with Water, but it also depends on the space. Martial Herbs might be preferred outside but not in the living space where relaxation and peace is sought. Most basic is basil or salt.

Door Guarding: An item is placed over the door to ward off evil forces, horseshoes, iron, signs with sacred scripture, chalking and so on. A plant can be kept by the front door.

Binding: More active form of pacifying, enemy or force is stopped and blocked by methods. Prevents movement and action being taken against the practitioner. Useful for spirits, a spirit may be bound to a tree or item to prevent it from doing harm until it is decided or mediated. Can be used to help with illnesses and fevers.

Bodily Warding: Amulets worn on the body, strengthens spiritual connection in some cases while preventing unwanted forces from interacting. Veiling is common. St. Cards, Spiritual Scriptures and others can be kept or recited over the self. Useful before rituals.

6 Types of Protection Magick

There are many ways one can do protective magick. In this post I'll be going into 6 of the most common and accessible ones!

Please understand that even one "protection magick type" can be done in an infinity of ways, some of which are closed to certain practices.

Disclaimer: based on my experience and research. I don't claim to know all truth. Further study is encouraged!

#1 — Magic circle

The magic circle consists of creating a protection and delimiting a sacred space for magic and/or ritual.

The magic circle is probably one of the most popular protection methods thanks to its encouraged use in Wicca. However, other traditions have made use of similar concepts, such as in the afro-brazillian Umbanda concept of "chain".

The circle can be physically drawn on the ground, delimited by the members inside the circle, or visualized.

Casting one is fairly simple since it can be done in different ways, either in groups or solitary practice. You can use tools such as wands, chalk or physical objects to draw it, but what matters most is intention and successful visualization.

Before casting a circle it's important to have everything you will need already within grasp and inside the circle, since once created it is advisable that no one leaves it until the work is complete.

#2 — Amulets, and Enchanted Items

Enchanted Items are a very popular and effective form of magic, especially for personal use. These are often common objects that have been enchanted for protection.

They are often necklaces, rings and other jewelry since these are the most practical to carry around without suspicion. However, they can be any object.

Amulets can be created via enchanting, charms, or by asking deities and spirits to bless them with protective qualities.

The material and imagery used to create the talisman is also important in determining the kind of job it wants to do.

#3 — Sigils and other drawn Symbols

Sigils and Symbols can be used both for personal protection and for warding spaces. Here I am also including Runes.

They can be carved into objects, drawn upon skin and surfaces, or even tattooed.

However, before using any sigil, symbol or rune it is of extreme importance that you know exactly what they do, and know as much about them as possible. Especially if you plan on drawing them on your skin (either temporarily or permanently).

Unless specifically used only for protection purposes, inadequate use of them can lead to disaster. Even then, the type of protection they bring can vary.

For example, a protection sigil that works by hiding you from threats is different from a sigil that fights threats that come to you. It's important to set or to know how their protection work so that you do not come across unwanted results.

#4 — Prayer

My definition of praying: focusing on sending a message to a higher spiritual power, be it an entity, deity or energy.

Prayers are a great way of manifesting protection, though since you are asking for it to a higher power you must understand that it may choose to not grant it, or not grant it in the way you expect.

Plus, it is very important to know where you stand with this energy or entity. Do you work with them already? For how long? What is the nature of the relationship? Do you truly know them well enough to ask them for this? Is it really appropriate?

Cultivating a good relationship and having manners can be decisive factors for manifesting this sort of protection. Plus, it's always good to "give back" in some way. To receive something, something must be given eventually.

#5 — Affirmations and Visualizations

Words and the mind have innate power. Affirmations and visualizations are great ways to manifest protections because they rely only on yourself.

They are easier to do right if you use them together with other methods, or if you have physical representations of the work being done. To be successful one must focus, "feel" them happening, and maintaining that without help can be difficult. Frequent practice will help you get the hang of it.

There are also techniques that make affirmations and visualizations both more powerful and easier to accomplish.

#6 — Warding

Warding is when you set up a semi-permanent protection in a specific place, such as your house.

It can be done in many different ways. One of the most common is to have an object or place designated as the "holder" of the ward, which should be well kept.

Warding will be more powerful if you are frequently cleansing the space and recharging the ward. Leaving it alone for too long can weaken in or make it lose its properties altogether.

Some plants are used for this kind of protection, since they (usually) stay in place, can be powerful magical allies, and you'll be checking on them often anyway. The ones usued are often those with thorns, threatening-looking leaves, or even poison.

Note: always be very careful about bringing poisonous plants home, especially if you have children or pets.

Conclusion

This was an overview of the most common types of protective magick. A lot of protection spells and works fall somewhere within these categories, or are a combination of them.

Each tradition has a certain way of going about spiritual protection, so if you are exploring an specific path, I encourage you to not only research about protection in general but to also look into what unique techniques your path has to offer!

Lord Lucifer

To Begin; The Lord Lucifer I am speaking of here is the Dark Lord I connect to from the Outer Realm Multiverse (ORM). He is not someone others connect with- given the difficulties in connecting to this level of energy (as I have explained in other posts.) I am very close to Lord Lucifer of the ORM. There are multiple separate beings who use the name Lucifer in the Inner spiritual realms (IRM). There is only one Lord Lucifer in the ORM.

Some distinctions that I want to make clear about this Lord Lucifer. While there are some similarities to the IRM Lucifers' (given that ORM Lucifer uses that current of energy since it is most similar to His) Despite this, He is a Distinct entity from these beings. The ORM Lord Lucifer is much darker then the IRM versions. Lord Lucifer is high level Divine Masculine energies; He does not appear as and is not female, trans or gay. For all intents and purpose to humans He is straight. To appear in these other manners i.e. female/trans/gay; is actually a distortion of His energies. He does not and will not godspouse, marry or have such types of relationships with humans, as He has no interest in this and never has nor will, period.  He also has no connection to Yahweh, Christian myth and is not the King of Hell, nor is He Satan. He is not at all connected to Diana or Aradia, nor is He the roman deity/Morningstar under the same name. All of these are IRM connections/stories/versions.

Also to note; The Fall was not and is not about humans and He did not fall from Yahweh (to whom He has no connection since it is an IRM being/egregore) but from a source well. Humans were not even the merest glint in the corner of His eye when the Fall happened, and He did not do it for them. While there are some rebellious aspects to the nature of the Fall it was not done just because of that, it was more about curiosity and exploration. But the nature of the Fall is something for another post.

On to who Lord Lucifer of the ORM is;

Lord Lucifer is known as the High Prince of the Fallen and He is the Dark Lord of the Fallen Angels. Because of the nature of the Fall and how it affected the angels, Lord Lucifer and most other Fallen angels (in ORM) do contain demonic divine darkness. It was needed for Them to survive, since the Fall tears Them apart and basically destroys everything They once were on an intrinsic level. He was the First; and in leaving/ “falling” it reverberated throughout the multiverses. Many chose to follow in His footsteps. The Fall has various mirrors and renditions throughout multiple worlds and realms. The Fall also exists “out of time” in a way, and there were multiple Falls, after the First.

Lord Lucifer is the First and rules over and governs all Fallen angels (even those that do not contain demonic energies). He is the first fallen angel and this a newer “species” in comparison to the demonic divine. He has his own realms/ world that He governs and is known to be a Great Leader and Powerful Warrior among other things. He is happily married to a few wives in the ORM and He cares deeply for His people. He has dominant and empowering pure high level divine masculine energies. While there are and have been wars between the Angels and the Fallen, He still considers the angels as His brethren, alongside now His demonic kin. Lord Lucifer and the fallen are wanderers, explorers at Their heart in general. Though all have found acceptance amongst Their demonic kin, and many have found places to settle amongst Their demonic kin and realms/worlds, if They so should choose. The love of freedom is something many among the Fallen share, including Lord Lucifer Himself.

Lord Lucifer of the ORM is not so much associated with Venus, and I find Him more linked to Mercury and Sol energies, when He connects to the IRM (since the ORM is not influenced by earths planetary arrangements). Lord Lucifer is associated with enlightenment of the self and is a Dark Light and Guide in the Darkness, the Trailblazer. Lucifer is not His actual name but it is one He uses and appears under for convenience when He connects here since the energies are as like to His as are available on the earthen and IRM (this is more deeply explained in another post, as to why ORM DL’s do this). While Lord Lucifer may be one of the more open (to connecting) and “accessible” of the Demonic Divine Dark Lords of the ORM, He has many duties and responsibilities to His realms and peoples in the ORM; which are more an area of focus and import for Him, then working, guiding or even connecting with humans or the IRM necessarily.

Lord Lucifer’s energy is very cosmic in scope, sometimes similar to a red dwarf star in general, or a likened to a nuclear blast- when He is annoyed or angered. He is Brilliant is all senses of the word. Often His Brilliance- like the sun, burns and scorches those in its path, even if one is “well prepared”. It is the nature of His energies and who He is. That said He can be quite harsh and brutal. He likes to challenge and at times “play the devils advocate” so to speak. It is one of the other differences between ORM and IRM Lucifer’s. ORM Lord Lucifer is not fluffy, or gentle, nor “soft,” nor particularly loving. He does not coddle either. When He does love it can be more magnanimous, overarching. But to those He cares for, He is Loyal.  Lord Lucifer works on a “different level” almost, He has a more overarching kind of cosmic view and knowledge of a situation. And He is known for His Wisdom and Understanding. He values Truth and its adherent, Justice (by this I mean on a cosmic level). Like Knowledge, Intellect and Wisdom; (cosmic) Truth is another of His Domains. Lord Lucifer also loves the arts, especially music. He is often quite curious and given His Wanderings, this is no surprise. He is beloved by many across the multiverses, like a sacred and favoured High Prince of cosmic import and He is Beautiful in many ways, much like His Brilliance. He is both kind and cruel, Terribly Beautiful and Beautifully Terrible. Lord Lucifer is Regal in the highest sense and is often stern, serious and disciplined in His manner.

As mentioned earlier, Lord Lucifer is a Great and Accomplished Warrior and protects His people well. He is a very powerful, skilled and disciplined Warrior and is an excellent fighter. Lord Lucifer has a large military force and is a Warrior Dark Lord who values honour and integrity. The Military forces of the ORM are very different to IRM and earthen, since ORM beings are immortal; it changes how the fighting forces function and are managed. Lord Lucifer and His realms are also part of the alliance among a few of the Dark Lords of the ORM. This alliance is headed by Emperor Satan. (side note; that Emperor Satan does not rule over all demons in existence in the ORM but is the being attached to the demonic divine darkness source well and so is a Great Authority that many do follow and ally with, since He is basically the Dark Lord of demonic divine darkness itself- which all demonic beings contain this energy.) There is a distinct and close connection between Emperor Satan and Lord Lucifer for a certain reason (to which I am not allowed to share yet) but They are not the same being.

Lord Lucifer has wandered many paths of Darkness and knows them well. He is a Lord of Shadows and Transformation, Who understands the facing and integrating of personal shadows. Often bringing this out in others to be faced. Lord Lucifer has been on many journeys seeking understanding, wisdom, healing and to Know Himself- as is linked with becoming a new being/species entirely and the First of His kind. He is skilled in navigating the darkest of places fearlessly and encourages this exploration in others. Lord Lucifer is a World breaker and World shaker. A Dark Divine Initiator aligned with the urge to explore, to create, to be more.

Originally Lord Lucifer was a “seraph” (I use this term for convenience of understanding. From what I have discovered though, the so -called “ranks” of angels labelled in the hierarchies are actually different species of angels. Not all angels serve or were created by Gods or Yahweh even (many are not linked to Yahweh or the IRM at all), but for convenience; seraphs are among the highest ranking and “closest” to the gods or their source well’s centre and have fiery serpentine associations- Lord Lucifer also says He is/was a seraph). Now He is demonic and is of high-level Divine Darkness. While He still contains light it is “flavoured” by and immersed in the demonic divine darkness. Lord Lucifer is a wonderfully complex Dark Lord who carries both angelic energy and demonic divine darkness energy within, in sacred balance within Himself. His nature is of both Empyrean and Demonic Divine energies.

Lord Lucifer is also known to be Cunning. When He chooses to come through in a more earthen realm manner; I have felt His connections to the Black god/ horned one of traditional witchcraft, among other areas. There is something almost “earthy” primal and dark about His energy in this way. The Light Betwixt. (of course, Lucifer is not the only being or Dark Lord who can appear in the energy of the Witches god and some have a stronger connection with this energy the Lord Lucifer does, but I digress.)
