A side blog for my thoughts and fandom rambling, mostly MCYT, which I am new to! Currently into Unstable but not caught up yet, so if possible, no spoilers please!
Welcome!! You can call me Knightly - this is just a little pinned post as a quick About regarding this page and me for any curious onlookers.
This blog is still under construction, but will mostly be for character/narrative analysis and speculation! I don't really do that on my main and don't plan to currently, so I thought I'd make a sideblog dedicated to it. Little bit of an exercise in getting braver and voicing my thoughts :3 In that vein, please feel free to send me asks!! I would love to chat about fandom things!!!
On that note, my personal tag for just general talk is: #chatter tag
I sometimes talk about fandom related stuff in that tag but i also just yap, so feel free to blacklist it if you aren't interested in hearing all that.
For a Masterlist of my narrative and character analyses, please follow the link here, also present on my blog sidebar:
Analysis Masterlist
This masterlist currently contains analyses on the following fandoms (WIP):
Unstable SMP
Some quick notes about me!:
As an FYI, I am an adult (this blog will not be 18+ though)
I am nonbinary, and my pronouns are he/they, with a preference for he/him.
Currently interested in/watching the Unstable SMP, but not caught up, so please no spoilers if you can help it, if interacting
On the note of SMPs: I am new to this sphere so this may be obvious to folks, but seems like something I should note to avoid any confusion? Any of my writing with narrative/character analysis will be purely about the characters, not the content creators themselves unless otherwise specified (ex. if I'm talking about Parrot, I mean the character, not the content creator).
I will also be reblogging art/fic (and maybe making art, too, who knows!), but will be focusing on MCYT as I am newly wading into that sphere. This may evolve to encompass my thoughts on other fandoms I'm interested in too someday, but for now I'm focusing on MCYT :3
wooaaaahghhhh just got back from a two day vacation last night (morning??? it was almost 4AM HEEUGH.....) and honestly shocked i am up and cognizant this soon after that drive. BEAUTIFUL trip tho, even got to go out to the ocean....!!! -w-
it’s so special to me that so much of fan culture is textual analysis for the love of the game. like thank god there are people in my phone who are also thinking about this thing i love so much that they are writing transformative fiction as character studies and setting clips of the show to music with theme-relevant lyrics and writing long text posts analyzing every line of dialogue like!! yay!!!
i have an awful headache but i figured i should put together my notes that point to hummer5718 and the leviathan being the same entity. pardon me if i get anything wrong and feel free to add on. lets go under the cut bc this is gonna get lengthy and also spoilerssss
• first off, wifies' belief in the leviathan is constantly equated throughout the entire video to a belief in hummer. this is most obvious at the end, when hummer begs wifies to believe in the leviathan: "i don't know if i can believe in something that doesn't exist." "then believe in me." it's this belief, this trust in hummer, that finally gets wifies the attention of the leviathan. but it feels pretty clear to me that wifies didn't believe in the leviathan at that point, as hummer had been trying to get him to do. he believed in hummer. and that still had the exact effect hummer had wanted to achieve. had wanted wifies to achieve.
• i also don't think it's a coincidence that hummer disappeared — apparently dying, though no death message appears (we'll get to that later) — the exact moment wifies caught the attention of the leviathan, and was looking around for it. in that moment, hummer was no more. wifies was in the hands of the leviathan. why can't they both exist at the same time? in fact, the only other time wifies had any sort of proof of the leviathan's existence was in the first ocean exploration, when hummer wasn't with him. they are, essentially, never in the same room as each other.
• hummer speaks VERY surely of the leviathan's preferences (has a nickname for it, uses specific pronouns, knows its limits and its domain) and is confident that everyone is seeking the leviathan in the wrong way, despite not really claiming to have met the leviathan himself. admittedly this can be easily read as part of his religious themes as an acolyte rather than deity, but it does beg the question
• OK FINE i'll address the elephant in the room: hummer's apparent nonexistence. we never see him in the tab list, we never see him join or leave the game, we never see his death message. he is never acknowledged by other players, and they even seem confused when wifies alludes to him. i've seen a lot of ppl say this means he doesn't actually exist. and like. i don't agree, but i don't necessarily disagree either. because this entire video was about looking for something that doesn't exist until you believe in it. the leviathan pretty clearly occupies this schrodinger's box type of space where it is simultaneously real and not real, but only by looking inside can you see the truth. i truly do not think it is a coincidence that this exact argument can be applied to hummer himself — only appearing to wifies because only wifies believes in him, much like the leviathan does later on
• something i haven't seen a lot of discussion about that really hammers in the nail for me is hummer's sheer discomfort with the museum server. upon first watch i figured hummer and arronax had some sort of academic beef, but apparently hummer's never spoken to arronax, despite her clearly having the exact passion he's looking for in someone. he says the leviathan would hate being displayed in museums, and that he doesn't approve of the "commercialization" of the leviathan. he's so extremely reluctant to go with wifies to this server, but follows him anyway, and lets him come to his own conclusion. it's not until wifies admits he doesn't believe arronax's theory — that he still thinks there's a chance that the leviathan is real — that hummer finally relaxes and shows wifies his favorite part of the server: a machine that brings them down into the depths of the ocean.
• hummer also dodges a lot of questions wifies brings up about how real the leviathan is. the one that comes to mind is wifies doubting the leviathan wanting people to find it in a certain way, let alone at all, the way hummer is describing — and hummer completely ignores him, just pushing further into his plans
oh wow that got really long erm. sorry. theres more i could add but the headache is killing me so ✌️ peace
my headache is gone for the most part which means im gonna add some extra points i did not get to originally !! a little more juice for ppl going through the notes i guess lol. once again spoilers under the cut
• hummer is VERY sure about the rules that get the attention of the leviathan — no potions, no way out, no failsafes, just pure faith that the leviathan will save you. but he never claims to have ever seen the leviathan himself. he says he knows it's there, he says he's kind of seen it — but he keeps it vague. he keeps the question of its existence open-ended, for wifies to solve.
• and isn't it strange? how focused hummer is on wifies believing, on being wifies' companion. if hummer were truly some random guy just trying to prove leviathan's existence, he would have proven it already! we learn the act of summoning the leviathan is a one-man job, the only thing you need being belief. but for some reason, hummer is singlemindedly focused on wifies proving the leviathan exists. not himself.
• hummer's reaction to arronax's confession to giving up on the leviathan is also really fun to dig into. wifies, a rational person by nature, takes the confession as it is, but hummer refuses. he starts looking for why the leviathan didn't appear to her, despite her clearly having all of the qualities hummer had been searching in a person, that he had found in wifies. he doesn't question her former faith or her abandonment of it — he just wants to know why the leviathan didn't answer her call. those rules for the leviathan's summoning he had given go from wishy-washy maybes to something that has more weight to it — he is absolutely certain that it was her failsafes that stopped the leviathan from reaching her.
• speaking of rules, did anyone else notice that... hummer also had those kinds of specific rules for interaction? a post on reddit, but no dms — you have to email him. and even then, he didn't respond to wifies until after wifies learned about the 20k ocean bug — the first email we see was sent on july 8, 2026, and according to wifies' computer, he explored the leviathan's domain on july 27, 2026 (at 2 in the morning..... go to sleep dude), so we know there's a substantial amount of time between the initial email and hummer's response, which, again, only comes after wifies learns about the ocean bug. hummer is also cataloguing all of his findings about the leviathan within minecraft, within this one world, and beyond emails, that seems to be the one place hummer is willing to communicate, rather than literally any platform that would make sense. you just have to throw yourself in and hope you meet him.
i might be back with more but this should be all of my thoughts on the matter (on a textual level. metatextual is a completely different essay). i personally think hummer is straight up the leviathan personified but it's a very open book for interpretation !!! women fear me fish want me. love you all bye 💛
i have an awful headache but i figured i should put together my notes that point to hummer5718 and the leviathan being the same entity. pardon me if i get anything wrong and feel free to add on. lets go under the cut bc this is gonna get lengthy and also spoilerssss

@throughthelookingspyglass you make some good points—I also don’t remember hearing a sound when Hummer died. I didnt even notice that he didn’t make a sound even though he was supposedly coming back from the ocean when Wifies got to his house.
Although, I don’t think Hummer’s name or skin have any significance, since Schpood (the va) said that Hummer is an alt account he’s had for years. Plus, Wifies gave let him choose whether he wanted to be in the video as Schpood or as Hummer
Oh thank you!! Yeah, it was something that really stuck out to me - the first time it was jarring, and then when I went back to listen again I was like "oh my god wait no he literally just appears" Glad to hear you also noticed there wasn't a sound when he died - that's deffo the one thing I wasn't 100% on :3
Oooohh, okay, interesting also! Maybe they don't really have extra meaning then - would be a funny coincedence/me reading into it then for the fish tail perhaps, like the folks mistaking guardians for leviathan in the video XD No worries btw, not a bummer at all - I'd rather be corrected then just plain wrong tbh LOL
That said!! I was watching Schpood's vod of his live watch of tsftl last night (really interesting, bit of a behind-the-scenes on Schpood's end), and he paused on Hummer's name, and, well; He did say he had a choice as you mentioned, but the way he talked about it, it seems like he and Wifies both were pretty set on Hummer as the name (or at least leaning towards it heavily), and that they "both had the exact same thoughts about it". I think it could just be about Schpood "wanting to be a character", but that dooooes imply to me not only a choice, but potentially some level of textual significance in the name too! Which, very exciting if so!!! (though I could 100% be off base)
Same thing with the skin actually - he talks about how he worked with someone (can't remember their name rn) to design the skin for Hummer very specifically. So perhaps it's more like, he modified the old alt account for tsftl, then? Which if that's the case, there may very well be some textual significance worth looking into still!
Shout-out to characters who don't plan to survive their stories! Heroes who think they can only atone for their failures through sacrifice, villains who don't think they deserve to live in the world they're trying to create. Gimme that passive suicidality baby, mm-mm, delicious.
bro i was about to give up about seven times while drawing this but guess what. trust the process and never give up buddy 🙂↕️ btw this vid was banger i love arg

Sorry for spreading miss information😢/silly
OOOOHHHHH good to know, good to know!! No worries at all :3c!!!! That biomes o' plenty mod looks really cool, so I'd say the misinformation is beneficial :D Will deffo take a look at nullscape too though, i loooooveeee the amethyst blocks - thank you!!!

I feel u though, he's so good!!! I love a character who begrudgingly warms up to the annoying guys who won't leave him alone >:3c minute does also give off some serious begrudging dad energy - i feel like he's a perfect balance between the guy in the mcdonald's meme that orders the single black coffee and leaves and the one who goes "We have food at home" (or maybe it's more like a gradient where he starts out one way and moves into the other...)
For my own purposes, I ended up writing down a transcript of Parrot and Wifies' argument during the Farlands episode - I've left in a few of my own tone interpretations to get across the emotions in the vocals, but by and large, this a straightforward transcript of what is said!
Not sure if anyone else has done this, but I hadn't seen a transcript and needed it, so thought it might be helpful to anyone else who wants it! Transcript is below the read more :3
Transcript starts directly after Wifies burns the compass:
Parrot (confused): Wait, what? (pause) Why did you do that? (longer Pause, during which Wifies starts to speak) Wifies what are you doing? That was a fake compass, right? That you just burned?
Wifies: Parrot, that's the real one. We're not going to the Farlands. You're not going to the Farlands, Parrot.
Parrot: Yes, we are. That's why we started this - (Wifies interrupts)
Wifies: No, no, no we are not. Because what's gonna happen is, we're going to go to the Farlands, and we're going to get roped up into a war, and chances are, one of us is going to die. Chances are you might die.
Parrot: That's why we're going.
Wifies: To die? To-to throw ourselves- to kill ourselves?
Parrot: Not everything is about us, bro. You're actually being serious? You just burned the compass?
Wifies: Tell me why you want to throw yourself into a war that's not yours just for you to die.
Parrot: It is my war.
Wifies: Why is it your war.
Parrot: Because I've had friends who got killed by the mafia.
Wifies: And whose gonna remember him when you're dead? (pause) (Wifies gets louder) If you go to the Farlands, someone else is raising that allay.
Parrot: Yeah but I'm-... you're being serious - you actually just burned the compass!
Wifies: What, do I look like I'm joking?
Parrot: I don't know- we made it- (Parrot checks their coordinates) ... 9.25 million blocks out.
Wifies: Yeah.
Parrot: Wait you're actually - this is not a joke? We made it all this way and you just burn the one thing that's leading us there?
Wifies: Do you hear what I'm saying? We are -
Parrot: Yes, I hear what you're saying!
Wifies: You're going to get yourself killed if you go there. I'm not gonna sit by and watch as you throw yourself into a battle that's not yours just so you can die.
Parrot: And what's the alternative?
Wifies: Not! Not fighting!
Parrot: And doing what?
Wifies: Surviving, living, ("Where", Parrot interjects) playing the game!
Parrot: Where?
Wifies: Anywhere that's not there!
Parrot: Nowhere is safe!
Wifies: How? There's no way they find us without Dean.
Parrot: So you're saying we just run out - we're already 9.2 million blocks out - we just pick some random spot and we settle down there for the rest of time, that's what you're saying?
Wifies: I'm saying we settle down there until further notice, until this blows over.
Parrot: Do you not realize that you're just a complete hypocrite right now?
(They move over completely onto the ice made by Wifies' boots)
Wifies: (starting angrily) How, how, how? (seems to compose himself a bit, starts again more quietly) Tell me how.
Parrot: Weren't you the one who told me that sitting out in the middle of nowhere trying to just run from all of your problems is just a stupid thing to do?
Wifies: That time was fundamentally different from - that was running away from your problems, this is running into death. It's completely different - it's a completely different set of circumstances. One that I much prefer the odds for back then than I do right now.
Parrot: You're actually - you're actually being serious? (Wifies starts to interject with "What's-?") You brought me 9 million blocks out to burn the compass, and strand me out here.
Wifies: ...I'm keeping you alive.
Parrot: Do you not realize that regardless of whether or not I have the compass, I'm going to the Farlands? That's the one fundamental problem with this so-called genius plan of yours. (As Parrot finishes out saying this, you can hear Wifies huffing in disbelief and anger)
Wifies: (Nearly shouting, upset) Do you not understand you're killing yourself - like, what's it gonna take? Why can't you understand that you're killing yourself for no reason. You're - like, the righteousness you get out of fighting in this battle is not gonna bring anyone back, it's gonna get you killed, and where does that leave me and Dean? (The ice begins to crack under Wifies' feet)
Parrot: I promised Luigi that I'm going to the Farlands ("Oh!" Wifies' interjects - from the tone, we can infer more disbelief and anger, and perhaps as well, bitterness and frustration - as if to say "this again!") and I'm gonna organize a rebellion and actually do something against the mafia, because if we don't do something do you know what happens bro? (very quietly Wifies says: "What?") Do you know what happens? (there's a long pause - Wifies starts to say something very quietly, but it's lost/unintelligible as Parrot begins speaking again) Both of us are gone anyway. So I'm going. Because I told Luigi that I would.
Wifies: Bro, Luigi- Parrot. He's dead. What's it gonna take - do I have to die like him for you to believe me, for you to care about what I'm saying? Is that what it's going to take for you to listen?
(As Wifies is speaking, Parrot starts moving, unleashing the allay and heading towards the hill)
Wifies (looking up at Parrot who is now on the hill, walks forward a bit): I know I can't stop you. But I'm asking you to - for once (long pause) be a little selfish, and be a little sensible.
Parrot (standing from the cliffside, looking down at Wifies through the spyglass): I can't lie, bro. I don't know what's gotten into you. But... I... I hope I'll see you at the Farlands.
(Parrot chucks the spyglass in Wifies direction, starts climbing the hill, and does not look back at him. Parrot's equipped shield obscures his vision where he might have been able to see Wifies on his left, at one point.)
A little while later, Wifies messages the following:
Parrot starts to respond here:
And then erases it once Wifies' next message comes:
