If the video I posted of a woman faking drunkenness on hidden camera to catch guys in the act of trying to take advantage of her wasn’t convincing enough, here’s another video of LITERALLY THE EXACT SAME THING.
The TV show “What Would You Do?” attempted to stage a situation in which two drunk women (actresses) are at a bar and a man (also acting) tries to take them home when they clearly don’t want to and can’t consent. The show aimed to see what bystanders witnessing the situation would do; if they would step in and protect the women or let them be led away by an ill-intentioned stranger.
But before the male actor could even enter the scene, other predatory men started swooping in to take advantage of the intoxicated women. One of them even attempted to team up with the male actor in order to separate and take advantage of the two drunk friends.
In contrast, two female bystanders who witnessed the actor harassing and pressuring the drunk women into coming with him stepped in and protected them, even getting in a physical tug-of-war and aggressively fighting the actor off.
No one is saying these hidden camera videos are a scientific study or an accurate reflection of the entire population. What we ARE saying is that this is something that happens FAR more often than anyone realizes or cares to think about. We need to stop blaming victims and making excuses for the people who do this and who enable these kinds of choices. We need to start holding rapists accountable and changing the cultural perception of assaults like this so that taking advantage person who cannot or does not consent is a shameful, despicable, UNTHINKABLE act.
