HATE social media sometimes
There was this reel of a desi mom and her baby just enjoying themselves, really wholesome, and the comments were full of people saying ear piercing is child abuse.
As a desi (former) child, I don't even remember getting my ears pierced, and I'm very happy I don't because I got other piercings when I was older and they hurt a lil bit. I'm glad I got them pierced as a child.
Besides, if you don't want piercings you can remove them when you grow up, it's that easy. My friend didn't want earrings so she had her ear holes stitched shut, problem solved.
Ear piercing is a ritual in many cultures that has existed for centuries. There is scientific as well as spiritual explanations for this, both of which I don't want to to get into right now.
If you are ignorant about somebody's culture, it's best to do some research before criticizing it. Everyone I know who had their ears pierces as a child is not mad about it, doesn't remember it, and are happy they got it pierced when they were younger.
If you're on social media, you don't HAVE to comment if you don't know what the post is about. Saying "I won't mind my own business because you posted it on social media which means it is my right to criticize your life choices" is not okay and makes you a massive douche nozzle

Always there but never someone’s first choice.
Jhumkas...
We're all aware of Desi Academia's obsession with Jhumkas, but let's take a look at some other types of earrings from the subcontinent that deserve the same amount of love and appreciation.
Note: Some people might use the term Jhumka to refer to any and all styles of earrings, but in actuality, only the bell-shaped earrings are qualified to be called Jhumkas!
Bali
Balis or hoop earrings come in a wide variety of sizes and embellishments which can be appropriate for anything from daily wear to festive wear.

Chandbali
Chandbalis are the jeweled interpretation of the crescent moon. Worn by Mughal and Rajput women in the medieval period.

Dhungri
Traditional Nepalese earrings worn in the centre of the ear, usually circle or square-shaped. A rare kind of Dhungri is the Kan ("ear") Dhungri, which replicates the shape of the ear.

Bugadi
Earrings worn on the upper rim of the ear by people along the Western coast of India, specifically Maharashtra and Karnataka.

Passa
Passa (or Jhumar) is a head ornament that has its origin in the Mughal period and is pinned to one side of the head. The Passa-style earring is basically the same, but in earring form.

Thuriya
Thuriya is a form of Assamese jewellery worn by aged women. The design symbolises a lotus with a heavy stem adorned with gemstones and exquisite meenakari.

Bonus: Sahara Chain
Sahara ("support") chain or ear chain is a type of ornament which is worn by attaching it to an earring on one end, and to the hair of the wearer on the other. It provides support to the earring, thereby lifting some of the weight off the ears.

decolonize your mindset.
love that nose your ancestors used to breathe in fresh scents of spices, jasmine, chai, rain, and incense.
love the lips you were given to speak up for yourself, for others, and for the women in your past who couldn’t.
love your eyes. the eyes that let you see the wonders of the world, capture beautiful memories, and see those you love.
love your skin. your skin that is the color of the earth in its richest form. your skin that glows in the sun making you it’s personal work of art.
learn to love you. and learn to forget the colonized version of you.

A commission I did for #comissionsforacause! I’ve been accepting commissions to gather donations to send to charities and funds that seriously need it - LGBTQ funds and BLM funds. 100% of the proceeds are going to the charities that people have picked when they donate or they leave it to me to choose and for this piece I sent the proceeds to lgbtqfund.org for the lgbtq bail fund against police brutality and injust imprisonment of lgbtq folk. It’s pride month y’all. Let’s do what we can . ❤️🧡💛💚💙💜🖤✊🏿✊🏾✊🏽
Please share or commission me or both! I want to do as much as I can to help those who really need it because it is our duty as humans to help each other out ❤️ you may transfer the funds to me to donate or alternatively you can donate and send me a confirmation of the donation (like a receipt) and commission me within that price range!

Hey folks, this is not your typical post about incorrect quotes.
I want to address a serious issue today, and most of you probably know what’s been going on in the US.
The killing of George Floyd started another serious and necessary debate on Police brutality in the states. (And I think not just there. Every country is affected in some way or another.)
My heart doesn’t ache, no. My heart is bleeding and crying out of pain about what has been going on for days now. What people have been going through for years and years. This is not the first case of police brutality against POC, nor the second, and it probably isn’t the last one.
It happened so many times already that I can’t count them all. Our world has lost so many beautiful souls to this never-ending issue. Additionally to this, we lost so many brothers and sisters of color who were part of the LGBTQ+ community too. Even though it is pride month, I can’t enjoy and celebrate it as much as I want to.
But now is the time to act. Now more than ever! We all have a voice, and I’m sure as hell using mine. And I want you to do the same.
40 Ways you can help right now shows you different techniques and approaches to support the #blacklivesmatter movement in various forms.
Everyone’s able to do something. Even if you don’t have the money to donate, or you’re not from the US, share articles, draw attention to it in some way. Being silent about this puts you on the side of the offenders.
I understand that I will never understand. However, I stand with all of you!!! Credit goes to @sfbucketlist on instagram for these 40 ways you can help right now.
