Cassiopeia can cast Ashes of Resurrection during the final battle, seemingly without any consequence, which I think opens up a lot of questions.

My headcanon is that she has a handful of spells completely wiped from her mind every time she casts it, just absolutely going through the psychological wringer and powering through it like a champ.

There is also the possibility that she's just gotten that much more powerful since she first cast the spell that now she can just tank the cost with minimal issue. Literal Queen shit.

Alicia Ni no Kuni x Chappell Roan

I like to imagine that NNK from Myrtle's perspective is just a regular coming-of-age story about self-empowerment and her regaining her confidence, and Oliver is just there as the manic pixie dream boy helping her come out of her shell. 

Like, oh, this weirdo kid who dresses up as a wizard and pretends to cast spells on people wants to break into my house and reignite my sense of whimsy? Don't mind if I do!

Hello Ni No Kuni fandom

Horace in the main game and post-game are both tragic in different ways. Post game for obvious reasons with Cassiopeia, but in the main game, I think it hits differently. For me, at least.

When you first meet Horace, it's easy to gloss over that initial shock of ‘that's a dead child’ based purely off his almost endearingly annoying personality.

It’s light hearted, he's a charming little brat around Oliver's age that gives him fun riddles, banters with him, and constantly bumps into him throughout the game. You even get the impression that they're warming up to one another as friends.

And then, I think it's around Yule, that you're very jarringly reminded that Horace is a dead child that is lost and confused and doesn't have his memories. I think there's something heartbreaking about seeing him in that light when contrasted with his portrayal as just another one of the quirky characters in this world.

Oliver was raised by Alicia, who was from Halcyon, from the Other World. I wonder if that ever seeped into his upbringing.

Maybe he's out with his friends, stargazing in the rolling hills, and he idly hums to himself a half-remembered Halcyon lullaby that Allie sang to him as a child.

And maybe the Telling Stone hears him, and tells him of its origin, and sings back about a heritage he will never have the chance of knowing.

Maybe it's subtle, maybe it's in his words, or in the food he likes, or the way he doodles, or in small, everyday rituals passed on to him without knowing.

It's hard not to liken Alicia to a refugee. Having lost Halcyon, and then the other world, ultimately arriving in America - alone and lost in a world that's completely alien to her.

It's hard, then, not to also liken Oliver to a second generation immigrant. Raised as all American, never truly learning his mother’s culture, and yet inheriting it in all those small ways.
