You and Abel sat on your bedroom floor; all of your smoking supplies organised on the carpet in front of both of you.
The window cracked all the way open to allow for optimal air flow, so your secret habits wouldnât be so obvious to your roommate, though you were certain they already knew.
âSo, what do we start with?â Abel asked, analysing the multiple forms of cannabis laid out and ready to be sampled.
âThereâs a jellybean flavoured preroll with a keef coatingâŠOrrrr, thereâs cotton candy rolling papers that we can use for the pink lemonade kushâŠ. Orrrrr cherry, raspberry flavoured gummies, Orrrrrrrââ
âOkay, woah! Iâm getting overwhelmed. Letâs keep it simple and start off with the preroll.â
âSolid choice. Wanna light it?â
âLadies first.â
You gave him a cheeky smile before pulling the joint out of the small box that encapsulated it. You brought it to your lips as you reached for the lighter sitting next to the rolling tray. You lit it up and took a puff, savouring the very subtle candy flavour.
âI need to get so stoned tonight⊠This whole week has been way too much for me.â Abel confided with a short sigh.
âYou know Iâve got you. The cookies are edibles, by the way.â
âShit, really? Iâve already had two.â
âYouâll be chill. You need it.â
You absolutely adored your smoke sessions with Abel; the combination of his soothing voice and gentle mannerism always had you reach peak relaxation almost instantly.
âUgh, my tummy hurts.â
âAwe, youâre so stressed out. Have you eaten anything today, other than the cookies?â You asked him before passing the joint over to him. You stared at his hand as he gently grasped it between his dainty fingers.
âNah, this stress has been messing with my appetite.â
âGood thing Iâm getting you high as fuck. Youâll have the munchies in no time.â
âHonestly it might be for the best, Iâm a little pudgy donchaâ think?â He asked before taking a long drag off the joint.
âNot on my watch. I donât care how pudgy you are, I am not depriving you of your favourite snacks, Abel.â
âBut seriously though⊠Am I fat?â
âYouâre on the thicker side, but thereâs literally nothing wrong with that. What's got you so down lately?â
Abel passed you back the joint and looked off to the floor with a somewhat melancholy expression.
âHey, look at me.â You reached your hand out and softly gripped his chin and directed his gaze to meet yours.
âItâs no big deal. I just need to get super high and get my mind off things.â
âSay no more.â You let go of him and passed him back the joint which he graciously accepted.

You had repositioned yourself to be laying with your head in Abel's lap. You had your gaze fixated up at him as you rambled about pointless things. He peered down at you with a soft smile and completely glazed over eyes.
âWant another one?â Abel asked as he unwrapped one of his âsuper good taffiesâ.
âPlease.â
Abel finished unwrapping it and gingerly placed it on your stuck out tongue. You treasured how Abel allowed you to be goofy and never seemed to care how reliant you became on him when you were high. There was something about his energy that just made you so calm and comfortable, especially when using his thighs as a pillow.
You could easily pass out from how at ease and invulnerable he made you feel. He was your safe place, your dependent, your home. You never felt more secure and light than you did when you were being cradled and doted on by Abel.
âThese taffies are divine.â You said with an exaggerated tone that was somewhat disrupted by the candy sticking to your teeth.
âRight? Theyâre my favourite.â The tone of his voice was so soft and calming when he was relaxed. Sometimes you couldnât tell what his emotions were based off of just his voice alone.
Abel rested his cheek against his hand and tilted his head slightly to the side. You could tell there was something on his mind, but you knew he wouldn't tell you if you didnât ask.
âHow you feelinâ?â
âLight.â
âGood, Iâm glad youâre feeling a bit better.â
âYou always make me feel better.â Abel said as he stroked your shoulder with his thumb.
âYou know you can tell me anything right?â You hinted at him.
Abel sighed softly then gave you a silly grin before finally confiding in you.
âDo you think Iâm cute?â
Your eyes shot wide momentarily before softening again. You couldnât help but giggle at this question because you felt the answer was incredibly obvious, but you knew he just wanted reassurance.
âOf course I do. Youâre the cutest in all of heaven. Perhaps even the whole universe!â You said playfully.
âHeh, thanks. But that would be you, not me.â
âYou think Iâm cuteeee?â You teased.
âWould I be hand-feeding you candy if I didnât?â
âTrue that. Why do you care if youâre cute?â
âWell, I mean I try. Sometimes I just have to wonder if my efforts are noticeable.â
âStop wondering. You have your answer.â You said, squeezing his arm.
âYouâre my best friend, right?â Abel asked with an awkward chuckle.
âOf course. Why?â
âDo you think itâs normal how close we are? Like, I just think itâs kinda funny how people are always asking about us.â
âNormal? No. But who cares? Weâre happy and thatâs what matters.â
âNo, youâre right. Itâs justâŠâ
You couldnât help but instantly shoot up into a sitting position, swiftly turning your body to face him and staring at him in his eyes with an eagerness which caused Abel to jump like a spooked cat.
âJust what?!â
âI canât tell if youâre excited or mortified! Iâm so nervous right now!â
Abel bit at his nails, his hands being considerably shaky, and his overall demeanor becoming increasingly timid with each passing second.
âThat depends! Tell me what! You canât leave me hanginâ like that.!â
âWellâ I justâ UhâŠâ
You stared at him intensely, waiting for him to spit out whatever he was trying to say. You knew your abruptness was off-putting, but you couldnât help it. You were stunned at what you believed to be playing out before you.
âItâs just⊠Do you ever think about maybe⊠I dunno⊠being something more? Maybe a different kind of label?â
âYes! Literally all the time!â You blurted. You had waited for this moment for so long that you couldnât contain your excitement.
Abel became flustered, anxiety ridden and intoxicated from admiration all at once. He couldnât regulate a single emotion he felt, which had you feeling more thrilled at the notion.
âWait, seriously?!â
âSeriously, Abel! You have no idea how long Iâve been waiting for you to finally come around.â
âFuck, really?! Here Iâve been thinking you were too good for someone like me. I woulda' said something sooner⊠Iâve just been too much of a wuss.â
âIâve been dropping hints like fucking crazy. I thought you were intentionally ignoring them causeâ you didnât feel the same and just didnât wanna hurt my feelings.â
âWhat hints?! God, am I that oblivious?â
âApparently! Why do you think weâre as âcloseâ as we are! Iâve been testing the waters to see how far youâd let me take it for months.â You laughed out of relief, tears pricking the corners of your eyes.
âJeez, weâre so awkward. Do you think other couples struggle this hard to figure it out?â
You blushed at the indication of being a couple, as though that had just set it into stone for sure. Hearing those words finally escape Abel's lips completely solidified how badly you wanted to explore this with him.
âMost couples donât start out as best friends. I think that makes what we have special.â
âOh my god. Please tell me this is actually happening and Iâm not just super high.â He laughed apprehensively as he clumsily brought his fingers through his thick, pale blonde locks.
âTell me the same. Iâm freaking out!â You bounced slightly out of excitement, trying to keep yourself under control to the best of your ability.
Abelâs cheeks were completely overtaken by a bright shade of amber-gold which lit up his matching coloured eyes even more than usual, or perhaps his eyes were so lit up from the sheer amount of overwhelming adoration he had for you that he was finally able to express.
He was slowly experiencing a rise in confidence from everything working out how he hoped it would, so much so that he took it as an opportunity to steal a kiss from you before his winning streak ended.
He leaned in quickly as though the longer he waited, the less meaningful it would be, then pressed his plush lips against yours. You hadnât had any time to mentally prepare yourself, but you felt yourself melting within seconds. The warmth of his lips and the subtle aroma of cannabis were enough to leave you craving more of this newfound confidence of his, as well as another joint.
He pulled away slowly, leaving you unsatiated. He almost had an expression of guilt, or shame, like he thought that he had done something wrong, his typical anxiety not relenting for long.
You couldnât have that, so you lifted your hand to meet his face, gently cupping his cheek and pulling him back in. You brushed the tips of your noses for a moment as both of you internalized the moment before meeting lips for a second time. The passion was truer this time, with little to no anxious undertones now that he was able to fully grasp what was happening.
Your heartbeat picked up significantly when you felt his hand grazing a part of your body, he never dared touch before. His hand laid carefully but firmly against your upper thigh.
Once the two of you mutually pulled away, you both couldnât keep yourselves from staring deeply into one another's eyes. You were infatuated by the intense colour of his eyes; you could have sworn they glimmered slightly, though it could have just been the angle of the light creeping through the curtains.
You brushed a loose lock of hair from his face, tucking it back into place. You couldnât keep yourself from taking in the prettiness of his features, in a whole new light now. Now that it was appropriate to admire him the way you always wished you could, you took your opportunity in stride.
You got lost in analyzing every single detail about him that drove you crazy. You appreciated every little characteristic, the dark rings that circled his eyes, his youthful, glowing skin, his precious tooth gap that he prodded at with the tip of his tongue when he was nervous. Every single attribute was so endearing to you. You couldnât believe you were finally permitted to express how obsessed youâd been for so long now.
You were more than certain he had been doing the same, as you both sat in silence just observing each other for a time. His expression was relaxed for once, which you were elated about.
Abel broke the silence and brought you back into reality.
âIs it too soon⊠To uhâŠâ Abel stammered shakily.
âI love you, Abel.â You said serenely. Easing the festering anxiety building within him. Perhaps it was too soon? But itâs Heaven, who cares.
âI love you too. So much, for so long. Itâs kind of crazy.â
You chuckled, adoring how goofy and awkward he was about everything. The exact reason he was so alluring to you. His genuinely softhearted way about him was what caused you to start possessing these feelings for him to begin with. It felt surreal, as though your dreams had finally manifested into reality, at last.
âWanna take a bong rip to celebrate?â
âCompletely read my mind!â
