In honor of Warriors’ 23rd anniversary, I did another design meme. This time the main man himself, my favorite orange cat, Firestar!

I love how a lot of the fandom interprets his design as being an Abyssinian cat or a ticked tabby.

It’s too bad the Erin’s never fleshed out Ivypool and Hawkfrost’s relationship beyond just a few training sessions. Think it would’ve been interesting if Ivypool got to really know Hawkfrost and even come to sympathize with him in a way and then have to grapple with how he’s still a bad person.

I saw this panel of the Warriors Graphic Novel of Cloudtail attacking Scourge and I really liked the poses so I wanted to do a redraw.

Firestar

My favorite orange kitty.

Design Facts: I love the headcanon that he’s an Abyssinian cat so I incorporated some of that breed’s features into my design, with the large ears, slim build body, almond-shaped eyes, and ticked tabby coat. His ticked tabby coat pattern is in the shape of a simplified flame and the markings around his eyes are meant to look like embers or sparks. Also adore the headcanon that he’s small compared to clan cats as a parallel to Scourge because Firestar being a short king against huge Tigerstar is funny to me.

Gonna ramble about this guy, so the rest is under the cut.

Never understood the idea that he’s a boring, generic character with no flaws, because I don’t think that’s how he’s presented in the books. The guy cannot stop himself from getting into everybody’s business whether they like it or not (I’m convinced that he figured out who Lion, Holly, and Jay’s true parents were way before Holly spilled the beans). From Fire and Ice onward he is a ball of anxiety. Beginning with Rising Storm he’s consistently paranoid about Tigerclaw on top of stressing with being deputy. He gets jumped-scared at baby Bramblekit because he’s mini-me of Tigerstar. He is simultaneously really observant and really oblivious. Somehow he figured out that Mistyfoot and Stonefur were Bluestar’s missing kits, sussed out that Graystripe was seeing Silverstream relatively quickly, and uncovered Tigerclaw’s numerous schemes and yet can’t catch on that Sandstorm likes him until Cinderpelt has to straight up tell him (and whether you want to consider it canon or not the fact that Cinderpelt also crushed on him). He also misinterpreted Spottedleaf warning him about a cat that’s not to be trusted as being Graystripe when Tigerclaw, who he’s been wary of almost since day one, is right there. And honestly, I think Firestar’s by far one of the most proactive mains the series has. I just really love my funky lil’ guy.

Design Notes: Fur details in cheeks, elbows, and chest have specific pointed shape. Stripes are meant to emulate stream patterns and full body jewelry, with head stripes and back stripes connecting to necklace stripe. Ankle stripes meant to imitate bangle bracelets.
