National Tournament Cities
With six locations to choose from, finding a location to compete in the National Tournament will be a breeze! Each location has a history all their own and great locations for you to check out!
Did you know that Pensacola, FL, was ruled by Spain, France, Britain, the Confederacy and finally the United States? With that history, it has earned the nickname "City of Five Flags." When you're not competing, there are plenty of things to see and do in Pensacola! Check out the National Naval Aviation Museum and see more than 4,000 artifacts and experience flight in the Flight Simulators! With its location, Pensacola is also a great location to experience fun on the water. Take a ride on the Chase-N-Fin with Aquatic Charters and cruise the Pensacola Bay area searching for dolphins.
New Orleans, LA, is another city hosting a Tiger-Rock National Tournament. The first Mardi Gras parade took place in 1838 and the city is the birthplace of jazz. Visit the cities oldest neighborhood - the French Quarter - and take in amazing architecture, visit historical houses, and shop at the French Market. Don't forget to visit the Audubon Aquarium of the Americas, home to 15,00 sea life creatures that represent nearly 600 species!
While competing in Kansas City, KS, be sure to taste some of the local barbecue cuisine. According to the Kansas City Barbecue Society, Kansas City has more barbecue restaurants per capita than any other city in the United States! Kansas City is also the birthplace of Hallmark. Check out their history by visiting the Hallmark Visitors Center. A neat place to explore is the Crown Center, also home to the Crayola Cafe.
Houston, TX, comes in as the fourth most populous city in the nation behind New York, Los Angeles, and Chicago - which means there are tons of things to see and do! It is home to the NASA Johnson Space Center, the focal point for the U.S. manned space flight program. Visit Battleship Texas, one of the last battleships to participate in World War I and II, and take a glimpse into history. Go out and enjoy a great game of laser tag at Laser Quest, or take in a game or two of bowling at the upscale 300 Houston.
Cary, NC, was founded when Allison Page and his wife Catherine Page bout 300 acres in 1854. It was named after Saumel Fenton Cary, a former Ohio congressman that Page admired. Page built the first streets, became the first Postmaster and the first mayor! While visiting Cary to compete, discover the town by taking the Triangle Food Tour. See the outdoors by visiting the Bond Metro Park and hike along the various trails or rent boats to explore the lake!
Recently home to the Tiger-Rock World Championships, Birmingham, AL, will also be home to a Tiger-Rock Fall National Tournament! Birmingham was originally founded in 1871 in its particular location because it is the only place in the world where all the ingredients for making steel are present. Visit the Vulcan Park and Museum and see the largest cast-iron statue in the world that was originally built for the St. Louis World's Fair. Also check out the Birmingham Civil Rights Institute and the Birmingham Botanical Gardens!
