“hey, that is awesome. you should be very proud of yourself. seriously.”
bcrtonhawk:
“Careful. I don’t remember if I put my explosive-tip arrows in that bag or not. Or was the acid tipped arrows.. Shit, I dunno.”
“Why are you like this, man? Why.”
katychens:
“Is kung-fu better than parking cars? I’m not a mixed martial artist so I can’t say, but I’m really damn good at parking cars.”
“Hey, that definitely takes talent. I’d be proud of it too.”
xmoonsilk:
“A lot changed for me after Pleasant Hill. Mentally, physically.. There’s definitely been some sort of reality shift.”
“I’m sorry kiddo. But I think I know what you’re talking about. I’ve definitely felt it too.”
destroyrofworlds:
“They’re not actual earthquakes coming out of my hands. Technically it’s vibrations.”
“Huh - how neat.”
ladylckis:
“What is this Tik Tok that I keep hearing mortals go on about?”
“You know, you’re gonna wanna ask Cassie - she’s all over that sort of stuff.”
hardycat:
Felicia stood and waited for her chips to dispense from the machine, but when they got stuck she let out a groan and hit the glass. “The one time I try to pay for something.” She grumbled to herself.
“Here – ” Scott holds up a hand, “Let me help.” A trio of carpenter ants march their way up the machine and into the food dispenser slot, “Or, them rather.”
vandynnes:
Her father had been incredibly upset for a far less. Hank Pym was a lot of things but level headed had never really been one of them. That had always been Janet, and once she was gone the Pym household had been left rigid with contempt and tension. Hope swallowed the whiskey and used the sting to clear her mind of the days after her mother when she had been left alone.
“Cassie’s got a good heart. She’s always wanted to be on your team. I love her, Scott, but she was also incredibly stupid. Having a good heart isn’t good enough. It was irrational. I get it. I grew up with a dad who could change size and talk to ants too. I wanted desperately to be involved, but I also knew there was a way to go about it and Cassie doesn’t seem to have that kind of judgement.”
Setting her glass down, Hope leaned forward and braced her forearms against her thighs. “You raised a dreamer and she doesn’t have a grasp on the realities of our lifestyle. I’m not sure what you could have done. Not treat her like Hank taught me. I don’t know, Scott. I didn’t have a dad who cared enough to figure out what was right or wrong.”
It wasn’t about her, but Hope saw herself in Cassie. She saw where the two of them had diverged and how irreverent Cassie had been.
“It’s your call. Yours and Maggie. As your partner, I recommend training her so that she knows how to handle her body changes but not letting her on the field. You can’t trust someone with your life if you don’t trust them completely, and Cassie hasn’t earned that. My family’s legacy is running through her veins right now and she doesn’t deserve it. Make her work for it. It’s what you and I did.”
Scott carded a hand through unkempt dark locks, before switching to leaning forward, elbows propped up on his knees and his face buried in his hands. Letting out a deep, but shaky sigh, Scott looked up, “No, you’re right. You’re one hundred percent right.”
He couldn’t just brush it off and pretend like this had never happened, there – there wasn’t really any going back from here. The best course of action, as Hope had so intelligently supplied, was to train Cassie. Teach her how to control the particles, how to keep herself safe.
And then, and only then, could he determine whether or not she’d be able to enter the field.
Cassie would always be his partner ( one of them ), there was no doubt about that, but in a way that meant they’d always have each others’ backs. He couldn’t imagine his peanut out there, fighting a hostile alien race, or killer robots - or god forbid, a mad Titan.
But here he was, contradicting his own thoughts again.
Of course, there was also the question of what the hell to tell Maggie. His wife knew the truth, but learning that her own daughter had done something so callous and irresponsible, something she was only exposed to because of Scott – he didn’t even know what to think.
“I - I don’t even know what to - how to - I – what the hell do I tell, Maggie? God.”
capdnvrs:
“At this point, doing anything other than whatever it takes means we’re not doing enough. Not with how things have been going. I’m not someone who can standby and watch that happen.”
“I’m so sorry, Cap - I’ve been having some, er — familial issues lately. I’m way out of the loop.”
katprydes:
“You could say that, but it’s a little obvious.” Kate took a swig from her flask. “Don’t you think?”
“Okay, fine - but I’m not sure what else there is to do? I mean, they certainly don’t make parenting handbooks for this stuff,” Scott let out a bitter chuckle.
bloodstne:
“Of course hunting monsters is fun. I love the constant threat of being eaten and/or possessed.”
“Maybe it’s time for a career path change?” Scott raised an eyebrow inquisitively.
jckpct:
“Just because someone doesn’t have superpowers doesn’t mean they should be kept out of the loop. I’d like to know when people I love are facing imminent danger.”
“That’s a damn good point. Things are already bad enough as is. Being informed would only serve to make things less terrible, I’d argue.”
medusaliiths:
“With the state of affairs at the moment, it’s only a matter of time before things escalate.”
“You know, expecting something to go wrong at every turn is no way to live a life.”
piixiies:
“Of course I was a little scared about dying for the first time, but it was super easy. Can’t remember a day, but hey! I’d take it over being dead.”
“God you mutants are lucky - what I wouldn’t give to have that option available.”
itsmjcnes:
“I’m doing a thing at Empire, so if anyone wants to give me a statement about how shitty things have been, please feel free to.”
“I think we just need to stick together. Keep each other’s spirits up, you know?”
marvelatme:
“Would I be jinxing it if I said that I have faith that things might get a little bit better?”
“Absolutely not! God knows we need some positivity around here.”
bbombshells:
“C.R.A.D.L.E. said a lot of stuff in the ReEducation Center, and — I don’t know. I agreed to go on the news in support of them because they showed me that we have a lot to apologize for. We need them to keep us in check.”
“Woah, woah, woah - hey, kid – I don’t like that kind of language,” Scott folded his arms across his chest, brow knit in concern, “-what exactly did they tell you?”
