Trapped

 In a cage of despair,

I silently reside, 

Suffocating within,

 nowhere to hide. 

Yearning to be me, 

 but they condemn,

Selfish they label, 

 my soul condemned. 

 A prisoner of judgment, 

my spirit confined,

 In this desolate cage, 

 my identity maligned.

 I long to break free from this suffocating view, 

To breathe as myself,

 yet they say I'm untrue.

Is this my life,

after all these years?

Now I just want,

 to disappear forever.

My soul's already hollow,

there's nothing left here.

I've lost my motivation to break free.

Memories

It was raining outside. I was cozily tucked inside my blanket and lay there silently, listening to the gentle patter of the raindrops on my window. I closed my eyes and slowly my mind made it way back to my childhood, leaving my body back in the present. The sweet memories of me with my family came back to me, like someone was playing a movie based on my life. There I was, sitting on the dining table with Mom, Dad and Didi ; drinking hot Darjeeling tea with biscuits, while telling each other about our day. Playing antakshari and dumcharades , sitting near candle lights because there was a power cut. A smile crept on my face as I remembered my 9th birthday when Mom and Didi insisted on going out and getting my cake even if it was raining cats and dogs outside. I could still feel their love. Reminiscing the movie nights on Saturday and the weekends with relatives ; filled me with a sense of nostalgia. Oh , how I wish I could be a kid again.
