âRemarkable,âsaid Diana as the woman explained. She nodded. âWell, you had five before. I have five per hand. Iâm not sure if all your people do?âÂ
Actually, Diana hadnât even learned who her people were yet. The transformed woman eagerly accepted the shield to examine herself. Diana smiled at her surprise and wondered how thrilling and strange it would be to wake up with an entirely different face and body. âI just met you. I wouldnât know where you wouldâve seen your face. Who are your people? Do others get to choose who they look like before they die?â
Dianaâs eyes flickered to the ship. The others. Were there others? The ship didnât look that large, but looks could be deceptive. She accepted her shield and stowed it away again. âIâd have to wear heels to be taller than I am now. Or fly. Youâre taking it very well for such a sudden, dire, and complete change. Others may not have.â
Five per hand. The woman frowned, wiggling her fingers once more. âYes... yes, I think thatâs right.â
At Dianaâs questions regarding her people, the woman answered slowly, as if she could mostly remember, but was uncertain of some things. âTime Lords. Weâre called Time Lords. Or, well... Time Ladies for some of us. I think... I mean thereâve been rumors in the past that some have better control over their regenerations, but I canât be sure. I never studied it. My specialty was inter-dimensional travel, which is why Iâm here at all, oh!â
She laughed. âI just remembered that.â
In regards to how she was taking her regeneration, the woman looked suddenly concerned. âAm I? Hmm... wonder if thatâs a good sign. Or maybe Iâm going to pass out here in a moment. Canât be sure, Iâve never done this before. You... youâll stay if I do, wonât you? I... donât think Iâm ready to be alone.â She laughed nervously. âWhich is odd when you consider Iâve been alone most of my life. Oh! Iâve just remembered that too...â
