I started showing depression symptoms when I was barely a preteen. At the time my mom frequently scolded me for being lazy and “didn’t know what to do with me”. Granted, she didn’t know I was depressed, but she also never made home feel like a safe space for me to talk about my problems. I’m 21 now, properly diagnosed and on meds, whenever I spend my college break at my parents’ house she makes sure to hug me and say she loves me. She often says that on WhatsApp and Facebook too, sending sending several hearts and kiss emojis with it. It fucking disgusts me. It feels fake and forced. When I needed her the most she turned her back on me, but now that I’m better she’s full of love to give? Bullshit. She show her true colors sometimes though, as soon as I say something like “I can’t do x, ‘cause depression is making it too hard today” she goes back to scolding me, complaining about HER problems, calling me lazy, etc. it’s like she only loves me when I’m easy to deal with
