#ThrowbackThursday to film photography on June 30, 2009: Late night photo adventures around Austin. This is the Paramount Theatre @ParamountAustin on Congress Avenue. The structure was built in 1915 and the classic architecture of the interior and exterior (but especially the interior) is majestic. This was for my Intro to Traditional Photography class that summer. I believe this was our shutter speed assignment as I recall dragging a tripod around downtown with my friends and doing some long exposures and light trails. Photographed on Kodak 400TX (Tri-X) black and white film on a Canon Ti SLR. Developed and printed at the darkroom at Texas State. Scanned negative. I mean, digital cameras are great but there's something very whimsical about sloshing a piece of Ilford around in the developer tray and watching the grey and black tones appear like magic, up until the image you made entirely blankets that formerly empty piece of photo paper ...after days (or weeks, or however long it takes one to get through a 36 exposure roll of film and get to the lab) of anticipation wondering if you made a good shot. 3 years ago I started a Tumblr (and then forgot about it)
I started a Tumblr in Summer of 2008 and barely used it. I like how one of my posts from August 2008 was about the new DSLR video craze and how the Nikon D90 came out but no Canon equivalent existed at the time. Oh how the times have changed.
I guess I'll start posting about random stuff I like again. Mainly things that I want... such as this:

I'm aware that I have a bunch of Lomos and other cameras that I don't use as much as I should, yet I bought this last night: Lomo LC-A+ & Krab Underwater Housing. Yesterday just happened to be Lomography's LC-A 25th Anniversary Sale so I got this package for $117 off the regular price! It's a 35mm film camera, plus underwater housing. I'm hoping to put it to good use while on vacation in the Caribbean next next week and figured the quality of pictures from this thing would be a lot better than a disposable film waterproof camera (like $10 for 27 exposures = $$$), not to mention the overall cost benefits. SO NOW I HAVE AN UNDERWATER CAMERA AND CAN TAKE IT SNORKELING WITH ME AND PHOTOGRAPH THE PRETTY FISHIES AND TURTLES! :) And I got the shipping confirmation email today so it WILL get here before I leave on Sunday!
