I think one of the reasons reading OFMD porn hits different is because it's such a nice and emotionally resonant way to get to the heart of Ed and Stede's worries about themselves.

Ed is used to having to take charge and doesn't believe he's worthy of being treated like a fine thing. Stede is desperate to earn respect and approval and is so full of love he hasn't been able to share much in his life. Ed's probably had a lot of emotionally unfulfilling sex in his life, Stede's almost certainly never had sex with his preferred gender before. And yeah, they need to talk about these issues and deep-seated insecurities, but also sex is an excellent way for Stede to prove to Ed that he deserves to be taken care of and for Stede to get proof of how desirable Ed thinks he is. There's no way the dynamic they've got going on isn't super cathartic for them in so many ways.

I've rarely seen a show where the main couples' insecurities and deep worries about themselves can be so readily addressed through writing porn about it. And that's a beautiful thing
