@ doctors can y’all hurry up and cure tinnitus
Attack of the Killer Napkins
(hey, I promised I was going to write it, didn’t I?)
Max was already halfway home from school when the thought occurred to him.
The corners of napkins can’t gouge out eyes.
He stopped dead in his tracks, completely shook. How had he allowed himself to believe something so blatantly illogical?!
To be fair, he had barely had any sleep at all over the past few days – it turned out that having a Twitch fanbase of mostly Americans meant that he stayed up way too late streaming just to match their time zones, even though it was a bad idea in the long run. That was probably a factor.
But what about everyone else? How had they been duped by something so preposterous?
The more he considered it, the more ridiculous all of Lila’s stories had been. Saving a kitten from a runway? Jagged Stone would never have let any pilot be so irresponsible. Tinnitus magically cured by Ladybug? No, from his research and the facts on the Ladyblog, he knew that Ladybug’s magic only healed what was broken during akuma attacks.
Napkins being able to gouge out people’s eyes?! Wow. He must have been really sleep-deprived not to see through that.
So then Lila had made all these things up. But why? And how was everyone still entranced by her tall stories? He simply had to know. It was strange, really, that the thought of having been fooled by such a mastermind wasn’t annoying him at all. If anything, he was impressed! It had never occurred to him that there might ever be someone in his class that could ever match his intellect.
Or surpass it.

“Is my tinnitus getting worse or am I just hyper-focusing on it?” A novel by me
No, The Classmates Aren’t Dumb On Purpose (and also let’s talk about Alya and the Seat)
I briefly talked about this earlier focusing on why Lila hasn’t been caught lying yet, but I want to focus on the topic of the classmates and just give my thoughts and understandings so far.
Once again, the classmates aren’t “dumb” or being treated as “irrelevant background characters” by the creators and writers because they fell for Lila’s lies.
This is how things are in their perspective:
new girl shows up at school
this new girl travels a lot because of her mom’s job which is a really cool fact
new girl comes off as nice, talkative, willing to share all about her adventures, and is very “outgoing” in terms of vibes
after an Akuma attack that makes illusions that no one but Ladybug, Chat Noir and Adrien really saw who it was, new girl has to go traveling again for a while
suddenly new girl comes back, and it’s a mystery to them why their KINDEST classmate Marinette is suddenly alarmed by her when she’s been nothing but “nice”.
This is their point of view, guys. They most likely do NOT KNOW Lila was Volpina and her role in both the events of Volpina and Heroes Day. Let alone Lila had tricked the class into believing she was away visiting Prince Ali during one of those events.
So back to why they don’t question Lila’s claims, the simple answer is:
Why would they?
Lila has given them no reason to doubt her yet. Which is why that one scene in the cafeteria where Lila “saves” Max, no one but Marinette really catches on to the OBVIOUS lie she just said.
Marinette only actually knows she’s a liar because she herself is Ladybug and knows the truth about anything Ladybug is and does.
Now picture this: An AU where Marinette isn’t Ladybug, and Lila is still being the same old liar. In this version Marinette likely wouldn’t be trying her hardest to expose her, because she probably wouldn’t know she’s lying given that in this universe, Marinette doesn’t know “Ladybug” and she has no reason to doubt her.
Now onto Alya and the seats…
What probably happened regarding the initial seat change is that as a few people have said:
Lila got in touch with all of the classmates separately and convinced them to switch by first pitching her “tinnitus” sob story, and then offering the “But you could sit by your best friend/bf/gf if we all switch seats! Not only will I be closer to the front and be able to hear, you too can benefit!”
Alya, again, not knowing Lila’s scheme or really anything of what’s going on behind the scenes involving her, probably accepted Lila’s offer of “Besides you get to spend more time with Nino!”
But to that she probably replied with “You’re right! But what about Marinette? Where will she sit?”
To which Lila probably lies with something along the lies of “Oh don’t worry about her! I already talked to her and she agreed that since she can hear just fine, she’ll switch to the back. Isn’t she the sweetest?!”
Alya, fully knowing Marinette to be a selfless and kind person, accepts the lie as a fact and doesn’t question it. It wouldn’t be the first time Marinette puts others before herself, so why would this ring any alarm to Alya?
With a situation like this possibly happening before the start of the episode, then it begins to make sense why Alya looks confused that Marinette doesn’t know the seats have changed and including that she now sits in the back.
Notice the look.
That’s not the look of a friend that willingly offered her best friend’s seat.
Fast forward to the end of the episode when everyone is back from that break, she finally decided to move back with Marinette after probably realizing that:
Marinette never actually agreed to the seat change seeing as how she reacted.
She may not really know if Lila really is a liar, but given what Marinette said to her and Nino during lunch, Marinette tends to have valid reasons behind her actions.
Lila just claimed her “tinnitus has been cured”…
and the best part
Marinette is still her best friend.
Something I did find interesting too is that Max questions the tinnitus and let’s Lila answer wrongly.
Then in the class they all volunteer to switch back seats.
Interesting, hm?
It’s almost as if they all talked about it before returning to class…
.
.
.
Lol I know it’s a stretch that they know Lila is lying this early in the season but it could be a possibility. What at least IS the case is that they all did agree the old seating was best.
So no, Alya most likely didn’t volunteer Marinette’s seat. And no, the class doesn’t hate nor is against Marinette.
The famous “everyone is against Marinette” scene of everyone turning to her in anger is probably them in shock that Lila implies Marinette would let a kid with a “disability” struggle, which is VERY out of character of her and they know it!
This episode if anything, just showed the audience just how manipulative Lila really can be, and that she isn’t willing to back down no matter what.
The girl is a lost cause and it’s both sad and terrifying.
.
… Just Yikes.

So yeah! That’s my tea of observations. Thank you for reading!
