The use of the walkway beside the bed (and a shorter run of stairs too!) is so similar to my design ideas. It’s so cool to see it built out successfully. I feel more certain about it’s usefulness and space-flow.

Do you know of any place I can find Ada tiny house plans?? My fiancé and I would love to do this,but not easy when I have an electric wheelchair... thanks so much!!

First, thanks so much for the question! I don’t get many here. 

I’ve seen a couple wheelchair accessible floor-plans pass my dash and those are pretty easy to google, but I don’t know that I’ve seen a finished house. I’d love to try and sketch something up for you if you’re interested! If you’d care to shoot me a message with the elements you require, both for accessibility and lifestyle, I could doodle up some ideas and possibilities. Sometimes it’s fun to skip the math and just doodle. I can’t really remember the specifics of my tiny house design, but this is a close approximation.

This was really fun to draw, but in doing so, reminded me that I haven’t really built in a comfortable drawing table. As much as I love the idea of a cozy little livingroom area, I am beginning to consider redesign in favor of a dining area more than couch seating. 

I love a good snug sesh, but I love being able to draw and play boardgames and build puzzles more. Huh. Fancy that.

It took me a minute to sort out exactly how the bathroom, kitchen, and loft/deck fit together, but I really like it! Such a clever way to fit in a full sized tub, washer, and dryer. 

That deck is super duper suspect though. If you click through to her facebook page, there are a bunch more pictures and you see that it is a hanging deck of sorts-- no ground support. I’m sure they’ll build it in where she lands, but for travel purposes, I am very curious how it handles the road. I would fear for roof damage, all that weight pulling down with every bump.  I’m sure it’s all been taken into consideration considering the meticulousness of the rest of the design, though I sure don’t understand it. :P

That sliding bathroom door with the ladder rungs on it is EXACTLY what I had in mind both as the bathroom door, and the loft access, although that secondary loft is a balcony/porch in my design. 

I’m not usually into the All Wood look, but this little tinder box looks so sharp!

Mixed feelings on the corner stove, but that back corner could be rather perfect for a pot/spice/knife rack or some such combination.

The wood stove nook is so sharp looking! I like knowing that it is possible to vent it below the cieling as well. I wasn’t sure if that was an option, but it opens up a lot of design ideas to be able to vent it out under a loft instead of up through the roof. 

I can’t tell if that pull out rack is a fancy dishwasher or just a drying rack in a drawer, but it’s brilliant regardless. I like the idea of a tucked away drying rack.

Oh man, that closet in a drawer business is so clever! I love it. I am very curious what use the under-bed storage is for though. Other than just plain not-super-accessible storage. Which I guess is still kind of necessary for off-season stuff or some such.

#8: An Odourless Bokashi Countertop Composter

Bokashi composting is a compact Japanese method of indoor composting, that uses a drainable container, and Effective Microorganisms (lactic acid bacteria, yeast and phototrophic (PNSB) bacteria) in a “bran” substrate to neutralise odours and accelerate decomposition.

The bucket is equipped with a tap on the bottom, so you can harvest “compost tea” to mix with water, and give to your plants to both inoculate them against diseases, and give them nutrients. Food waste is set in to the bucket, and then covered in the “bran” in order to facilitate rapid conversion into rich material for your garden.

It’s faster and more compact than other methods of composting, and also virtually scentless.

Tiny House Accent Wall - for the base and the rest of the house we used @behrpaint premium plus ultra “pure ultra white” and the the color is “The Real Teal” - we also stained the back on the barn door in classic grey. We still have alot more painting to do but we love the new bright look.

YES! This burly-ass sliding door with the rungs up to a loft is exactly what I want for my bathroom door/ladder up to the “balcony.” I’m so pleased to see that it is both possible and beautiful!

Haley Kalb’s Buddhaful Tiny Home

Utterly modern kitchen.  There is mini refrigerator in this house and a microwave.  No cooktop, no oven.  No idea if there are any other kitchen appliances.  I clicked through and even looked at more pics.

No sign of a heating source, so most likely it’s somethng electric and radiant, as that would align with what is visible in the home.  This house is in Florida, so I have to presume it has air conditioning.

This is my idea of an ineffective tiny house because if the power goes out, the entire house goes dead.  No heat, no ability to do stuff.  Unless you have a generator hidden somewhere that you can pull out and fire up at a moment’s notice.  As someone more used to earthquakes from 20 years I spent in California, I find I wonder about tiny houses and hurricanes.  Do you just move when wind speeds threaten a certain intensity or higher?

The owner of the house is a former banker who decided to chuck it all and is now a yoga instructor and Ayurvedic practitioner.

And that’s where I look at this house and it turns weird.  In my own experience, I have never met people more against the use of microwave ovens than Ayurvedic practitioners.

I don’t know about all of that ^ But I love the idea of the bottom few steps rocking back on a hinge into the first landing when they are not in use. Perhaps the need for storage will alter my plans, but I think I’d like the open floor space more than I would room for a couple more boxes of Stuff.

Regardless, it’s a brilliant design element!

Two interesting items to note: a ladder is a ladder, no? Pushing the ladder back towards the wall allows it to sit flush with the window/door trim and make it seem less invasive. Creates the need for a cubby hole to access the loft. For those who haven’t had a lot of exposure to ladder use, the least comfortable part of using a ladder is the dismount/remounting the top of it. It’s not for the faint of heart, particularly were the ladder to be on the front face of a loft. Positioning it in this alternative location allows you to grip anywhere around the cubby hole edges, making getting on and off the ladder WAY more comfortable.

Second item: they eliminated several of the joists under the loft floor, utilizing a pair of 4x4 or 4x6’s instead. This simple alteration adds 3-½ inches of headroom. Every inch counts in a tiny house!

Interestingly, almost no tiny houses ever have the ladder not at the edge of the loft. Seriously, think about it.

I still feel some sort of tansu stairs are the way to go for me.

I’ve not seen floor joists build this way for a loft. It’s brilliant and so clean looking! I fear for the durability of it and would likely squeeze in a couple more though, for fear of sagging with time.
