We need more romances with older characters, and by older I do not mean 40s, I mean late 60s and older. I mean the widow and widower who meet at U3A and have to blend their large extended families, the elderly gay men who find the courage to come out together, the trans woman who finally gets to live her truth and meets the woman she wants to spend the rest of her life with. Give me old people who are besotted and horny and regulars at their local sex toy shop looking for lube and toys and furniture, and figuring out how to work around erectile dysfunction and post-menopausal libido death (or libido surge), and the messiness of blending biological and found families when everyone is grown up with grandkids, and hospital appointments and yoga classes and all the mess and joy of getting old.

Getting old is a privilege. We need more stories to remind us of that.
