Okay but like— I don’t know if anyone has said it— Anya is 1000% neurodivergent (especially autism) coded. Yes I know she’s a demon and all but that sounds more like a cover up for her “idk how humans work” despite being one. Especially with hard emotions like this episode where she desperately wants to understand the world around her but doesn’t and no one can give her a real answer. Anyways whatever the reason I really think she is a good (for early 2000s tv that is) representation of a neurodivergent girl.

I really like the fact that she is so clearly experiencing the same grief as everyone else. She just can't express it the same way as them. It's not about her not feeling what they feel, it's not about her not understanding why everyone is sad.

She doesn't understand why they are expressing their grief the way they are. Willow is changing clothes, Xander is refusing to communicate, everyone is moving around but no one is actually doing anything.

She perfectly captures that sensation of knowing you are doing something wrong somehow but you don't know what you are doing wrong and everyone is mad at you for being wrong but they won't stop and tell you what you are doing wrong.

Then she expresses her grief but she doesn't just say 'I'm sad', she says 'I'm confused, and angry, and frustrated, and scared, and also sad'. And I like that at that moment you can see Willow and Xander almost appreciate that Anya expressed all of those emotions at once, because it allowed them to acknowledge that they are feeling a lot of things at once and it is overwhelming and there is no right way to be feeling right now.

It felt like a tiny moment of appreciation for people who don't think or express things the same way as most other people.

I refer, of course, to the time Buzz Aldrin (age 72 at the time) cold-cocked a moon landing conspiracy theorist straight in his smug face after being accused of being a coward, liar, and thief.

Yes, someone was indeed dumb enough to tell a man so unafraid of death that he was willing to go into the void on a fragile explosive rocket, a coward.

Said dumbass was filming this confrontation as some sort of proof of moon fraud, but has instead captured this glorious moment of near-cosmic justice for us to loop for all time.

Aldrin was not charged with any crime. He should have been given another medal for public service.

I really wanted to come up with an original design for Adrian, this one I'm finally happy with! So I present it to you!

TW: ANGST AND CHARACTER DEATH

Backstory:

Adrian waited for years, hoping for his soulmate to return home. They were able to sense that Rocky was up there, lost somewhere in the firmament, and so they never lost hope. Always longing for the day their lover would be back between their arms.

Adrian's resilience inspired other eridians to keep hoping for their beloved astronauts return, even the ones that were certain that their loved ones had long gone. So the wait went on for years and years until one day Adrian went uncharacteristically numb.

"The link. I can't feel the link anymore." Is what Adrian had said, then everyone knew.

Their crew hadn't made it.

Preparations were on the move that same day to finally mourn and give their lost siblings a much deserved goodbye.

Rocky's confirmed death had been such a shock to Adrian that they decided to not participate in the funeral. Rocky was their soulmate. Their partner for life. The loss was so big that Adrian felt they had nothing else to live for.

Instead, Adrian pulled away from the support of their people and moved far away on their own, eventually, passing due to his grieving and lack of caring for themselves.

After ascending, Adrian had realised that they now had become a kind of guardian for Erid, and so, decided to stand guard by their new role and protect their planet against the Astrophage menace with whatever strength they gathered.

My Adrian's design is inspired by fluorite!

I looked up various gemstones for inspiration, I really wanted to make them pretty! So this was my favourite pick dbdksndkd it's colors are close to what the general consensus of what Adrian looks like is right now (that way people could still tell this is supposed to be Adrian) and it has purple in it!!! (I love purple) So yes. Best pick.

It was a huge milestone of scientific and technological advancement. (Plus, at the time, politically significant). Humanity went to space! We set foot on a celestial body that was not earth for the first time in human history! That’s a big deal! I’ve never thought about it before but now that I have, it’s ridiculous to me that that’s not part of our everyday lives and the public consciousness anymore. Why don’t we have a public holiday and a family barbecue about it. Why have I never seen the original broadcast of the moon landing? It should be all over the news every year!

Just saw the Avengers: Doomsday trailer and they're bringing back Steve Rogers??? What the hell?

Last MARVEL thing I watched was Endgame. I'm majorly behind on everything else. But I'm also kinda... fatigued? The trailer looked epic but so fucking busy. Like they threw everything and the kitchen sink into this movie -- Avengers, Thunderbolts, Black Panther, Doctor Strange, Fantastic Four, fucking X-Men! And the last shot spoils Steve Rogers coming back.

I can't help but feel cheated with that spoiler. But also question how good a story with twenty-leven characters could possibly be. This needs to be a mini-series at the least, preferably a full 22 episode season.

When you pick up a sword for the first time you will be slow and awkward. This is frustrating, but refuse the temptation to try and become a “faster” fencer. Chasing after speed is like trying to catch smoke. If you try and pursue speed, all you will accomplish is haste. Haste is the enemy of 1st class fencing.

Speed is a lie the untrained mind tells itself when it sees an action it cannot follow. The truth is a combination of timing, control, and fluidity. Fluid motion, even done slowly, will always arrive before a hasty strike. Control will allow you to move without wasteful motion that will slow you down. Timing will eliminate the need to move fast almost entirely. There is no need to get somewhere fast so long as you get there at the right time.

In all my years, I have seen nothing to genuinely suggest that people's ability to work magic, how that magic will manifest, and what will happen afterward is in any meaningful away affected by their personal morals. Not on any large or grand scale, anyway.

Kind and cruel people alike experience the same results from the same methods. People use malicious magic without the universe punishing them all the time. People cast well-intended spells and sometimes things don't always turn out good.

Arguably, the idea that magic's efficacy or outcome is dictated by the soundness of your morals is dangerous, because it can falsely reassure people who behave in fucked up ways that their behavior is fine, while exacerbating scrupulosity in people who aren't actually doing anything wrong.

So yeah, we gotta be more critical of the idea that magic and morality are linked in ways that will result in reward or punishment for the caster depending on whether or not they're "pure" enough or something.

Just a reminder that Star Trek: Into Darkness was completely centered around Jim and Spock 's relationship and ended with Spock losing control when he lost Jim (and pointedly showing that he would have killed Khan regardless of Uhura's begging until she said they could save Jim) and Star Trek: Beyond starts off with Spock and Uhura being broken up.
