“Wow, right on time!” Liviana greeted the young man who entered her office. “Thank you so much for accepting and signing off to be my personal assistant, Mr. Schone. I really appreciate it! Because as you can see, I am a mess and a day without some help is very impossible in my case.” She says in a continuous manner as if not taking chance to take a breath, then checked her watch for the time.
She continued talking without waiting for the man in front of her to reply. “I still have a lot of things in my plate so I really won’t have time to talk to you but no worries! I had checked your CV, portfolio, and audio recorded interview; what can I say? I am impressed with everything I saw in there! I love how you answered all the questions in your interview on point as if your mind is a perfect match for me. Especially by how open you are on being gay, I can already sense from your interview on how creative you are going to be as part of this company. So please do not be afraid to tell me about your ideas with the projects I am working on. I hope it is okay to say but honestly, I did not expect your fashion style to be this masculine and I am digging it! I love how it shows command. Anyways-”
Liviana then picked up the iPad in her desk and gave it to him. The man just took the gadget without responding with brain processing what is happening and the word gay is on repeat on his head. “- I am really sorry if it seems bad for a boss not to let my employee talk, but I still have another meeting to attend and I need you to assist me to take notes. I believe everything you will need is in that iPad so just use that for reference throughout the day.”
The man smiled when she said that she is going to her next meeting, but his face darkens when they entered a conference room full of people. “Hello guys, I see that you are already halfway through the meeting I apologise for the tardiness, but I want you to meet my new assistant Jermaine Schone. I hope it is fine for them to call you by your first name Mr. Schone or is Jermain maybe Jer okay?’
The man remained silent as he is perplexed with what is happening and why on hell he is being called by different name. “Uh-uhmm anything is fine.” He stuttered to say. Only then he realised that it was a wrong answer.
“Okay then, Jer it is. So, guys please welcome our new member of the family, Jer.” Everyone welcomed him with an applause. “Back to business everyone. Where were we? I can see that all of you are already finalising the candidates who will be part of our inter-branch audition for the scholarship of being trained in our entertainment company. Well from the get-go, with what you sent me last night, I can say it is a pretty good set of contenders. I am pretty proud of your selection output this year I’ll give you that. So, do we have any problems or maybe a teeny-weeny concern with this?”
“Well Liv, I believe in our part everything is set and good to go. But we’ve heard about the Academics Department having a conflict with this event in one of their participants. So, I believe you should call your friend, Anne about this.” A representative from the main branch said.
“Oh okay, thank you Jane. So, are we all good with this meeting? Nothing to raise while I am here?” Liviana checked once again with her employees. But all of them answered unanimously that there is no problem so far and a formal letter will be sent or someone from the respective branches will go to her once such problem would occur. Therefore, with that, she adjourned the meeting and have everyone sent to their schools.
She dialled Annie Giovani, one of her friends who helped her to keep the family school business afloat while Liviana focus on acquiring an Entertainment Company to achieve her dream of integrating a private school with a Korean Entertainment Industry with a sure promising future for trainees. “Hey Anne, I heard from one of the branches representatives in the upcoming LV Entertainment Scholarship Finals Audition that we have a potential problem in your department. What is it about?”
Annie or as everyone calls her, Anne replied at the other end of the line, “Oh yeah about that Liv. Well, we have this kid Annabeth Caddel here in the main branch who is so adamant to join both events. For the interbranch in Academics department, she also wants to join the creative writing contest and the Extemporaneous Speaking. Oh, she is also part of the Math Quiz Bee and Science Quiz Bee Teams. So, it is a lot for a senior high school student”
“Yeah, I totally agree with that being too much for a senior high school student. Does she have any reasons on why she is being so persistent as if there is no tomorrow?” Liv asked more to understand the young student’s sentiments.
Anne was a bit unsure what to say so she just responded based on what she hears around the school campus, “I heard from her classmates and friends that it is actually because she felt like her future is already set by her parents, so she is taking the opportunity with the LV Scholarship Audition programme to somehow let fate led her to what’s really meant for her.”
Liv took a moment to process what just her friend told her because she can really relate to the young student’s sentiment so she replied with content and supportive voice, “I can totally understand so I’ll just say let her be. Make sure her event schedules will not clash because that is the least we can do with how persistent she is. I am sure no matter what Annabeth’s parents will still support her and let them gather and use all the resources they can access.”
The handsome man who still beside Liv smiled on how she is talking through the phone because of how he appreciates her way of handling things – always giving space and not being too uptight can actually help everyone around her grow and develop. He is amazed on how she is still sure that until to this day parents are still there to support their children even though it might get too demanding because of their trust to their child or children. How he wishes that is also how his parents raised him. Everything was so easy for him because his parents are very protective of him as he is an only child.
Anne is actually pleased with what her friend responded so she just replied, “Okay then, it is all settled. As far as my knowledge goes, the schedule seems good for Anna, so I guess fate is already giving her the signs. Thanks Liv, really. I appreciate your support on this.”
Liv is happy hearing her friend praised her, so she ends the conversation saying, “Well, thank you also Anne for giving me these kinds of insightful thoughts of students you are handling. It really helps me to understand and make decisions. So, goodbye for now and see you soon when I visit there or maybe your house.”
With a smile Anne on the other end of the call also bids her a goodbye, “Goodbye Liv, keep safe and have nice day.”
The call was ended, and Liv turned her attention back to the man who is still in the same room as her and instructed him to follow her back to her office. “Oh yeah, I almost forgot that I need you to note that I remember the meeting I had forgotten about an investor coming in after my introduction with you earlier.” Then her face has this confused look. “But I totally forgot the name. See? I cannot last a day with an assistant because I really suck at faces and names. Please don’t get me wrong I don’t have that illness, Prosopagnosia. I just have this problem even when I was a child. I need like time to familiarize myself with people’s faces but heck right now, I do not have that ‘time’. So that is why I need my seniors and assistant to help me with newbies and meetings outside the compound.” Liv smiled when she realised, she is talking too much again.
“Am I talking too much and too fast?” She asked.
“Yeah.” The young man managed to say with a small smile forming his lips.
“Sorry. But I think it is time for me to tell you another three main reasons on why I really need an assistant for you to lessen your growing judgement towards me.”
The guy was startled when she said growing judgement, so he tried to retort, “I am not judging. I totally understand.”
Liv was glad about what he said so she answered, “Well thank you for that but I still think I need to say the other reasons. One is as already evident with your surroundings – that I need help to keep everything organised. This is actually a never-ending dilemma that I have.” She laughed as she recalled her undergraduate years. “I never get myself to be organised that is why I almost got myself failed in one of my academia years because of this problem. Two is I need help with time and my schedule. Trust me, I used to be always on time and always got annoyed with how my mom is never on time. But only now I realised that when you are caught up with so many things that are sometimes hard to grasp, you will totally lose your sense of time.” Liv smiled as she reminisces the times she had always waited for her mom on Sundays when getting ready for church then she continued with her last reason, “Last and most importantly is that I need second opinion with all the decisions I am making. Because with how hectic everything is and never has its cooldown phase so far, I would totally need to have second opinion. Just like how vital it is when you got checked up and diagnosed by a doctor, always go for another one.”
Unbeknownst to Liv’s knowledge the young man may appear lost with everything she just said but instead, him listening to her has been delightful. Because even though most people might find her conceited for always talking about her, he finds her perceptive and a person with depth as how she always talks about herself, all of it are reflection on how she sees situations and people around her. He finds himself falling with that trait of hers.
“Sorry. Did I bore you?” She asked worriedly.
“No. I actually find everything you told me very helpful. So, thank you.” The young man answered reassuringly.
“Thank you also.” She said with a warm smile then checked her watch once again. “Oh, I think it is almost the end of your shift.”
“Really? I didn’t even notice. It was nice being your company.” He replied.
“Ditto. Oh yeah, why do I keep forgetting about that investor that I should’ve met earlier. I should probably call my old assistant when I get home.” Liv informed him.
He responded, “Yeah, I think so too.”
“I can have you leave early today since this was like supposedly to be your introductory day but I should probably also let you have the iPad from now so you can familiarise all the scheduled appointments already and have ourselves smooth-sailing from tomorrow.” Liv said as she pointed the gadget that the young man still has.
“Okay then. Thank you for today Ms. Voss. See you again tomorrow.” The young man said as he waved her goodbye and walked outside the room.
***The Young Man’s POV***
“Hey Dexter, what was the emergency earlier this afternoon that caused you not to accompany me in the LV Entertainment?” The young man asked his assistant as he took a seat in his penthouse dining table.
“What the- how does that kind of thing even happened? I cannot believe this. With how you dress and carry yourself, you still become an assistant.” His assistant jokingly said with a chuckle afterwards.
“My apologies sir. It was your father who needed my help with the transitioning rights of the company to you Mr. Stone.” Dexter answered his boss.
“No need to apologise Dex, I understand. But you did cause me troubles.” Mr. Stone said as he hands over the tablet Liv gave her earlier. “I think the CEO there, Liviana mistaken me for her new assistant. So, I need you to know why and how with that iPad.” He stated as he pointed the iPad he handed over.
“Well actually, I did not find myself got offended because she just proves with such mistake that she is not judgemental but just really suck at recognising faces and remembering names.” Mr. Stone said with a smile as he recalled everything Liv shared to him. “Do you even know on how open she is as if she doesn’t hide anything? She just says everything what her mind can think of – as if she has unlimited ideas and opinions. It is so fun to listen to her.” Now he is grinning wildly as he said those last few words.
“So, I guess it is pretty safe to say that you did not have a hard time attending as her assistant earlier. It looks like you grew fond of her, sir.” Dexter the older man suggested.
“Yeah, I think I do.” The young man said as if in deep thought then proceed saying, “You should eat dinner first and do what I requested from you earlier Dexter. Thank you.” The older man just nodded and went to the kitchen to do as what he was told.
Jayceon Stone or as some close people call him, “Jayce” and “Ceon” ate his dinner then proceeded to feed his cat named, Jovê and went to his living room to watch TV and read a book at the same time. He is the sole heir of his father’s international entertainment company called Stone Global Entertainment Corporation or as majority calls it “Stone Corp.” and Jayceon has always been an ace in following his father’s footsteps on where the company is heading in the present time. However, this project of investing to LV Entertainment and its sister company, Tree of Life Academy (TLA) was somehow his own decision and without his father’s permission because he wants to know his full potential without anyone coaching him. With his meeting with the company’s CEO, he can already say that he has chosen a great company.
Jayceon’s assistant comes back to his living room to tell him what went wrong with the scheduling, and he explains, “So it turned out that Ms. Voss’s former assistant got confused. You and her newly hired assistant has the same initials, J.S. and when she attached the notes in the calendar, she interchanged your profile information with Mr. Jermaine Schone.”
Mr. Stone cannot help but smile with fascination with the turn of events, so he says, “Alright then Dexter, call Mr. Schone right away and tell him to report to our building due to the partnership of Stone Corp. and LV Entertainment. Give him a suitable job for the week.”
Dexter was confused with what just Jayceon remarked so he asks, “What do you mean sir? Are you planning to be her assistant for a week?” The older man was somehow disheartened on how his young boss is using his brain right now and it is evident on his frowning face. “You do know that the two of you haven’t signed the partnership yet? You are aware, aren’t you Jayce?” He asked worriedly.
Jayceon did take notice on how his assistant is feeling concerned, so he reassures him by saying, “Yes, I am sure Hyung. Do not worry. Give me this time, just one week and I promise you that you can stand proud in front of my father with how I will take over the company. This might seem like a random act and not thought through, but I give you my word that I did some thinking and do have a plan. This will be purely business. Don’t tell me that you thought I had fallen totally for Liviana.” He just laughs away the idea, but he sees the face of his assistant being confused so he continues, “Wait- really? You did assume that I- well, maybe I did talk highly of her but that was all as a business partner. Trust me, I will make sure to have this sealed at the end of my given week. So… until then, keep father from bothering me. Please, hyung?”
Dexter his older friend cannot help just give in to his request and answers, “Fine, I will help you out but you promised to keep this totally professional, okay?”
Jayceon replies, “Of course! Thank you so much hyung! Please send me your revised scheduling in the iPad in the way I could understand before I leave for Liviana’s office.”
“Sure, Jayce. I will have everything prepped in the living room before you leave tomorrow. I will head to my quarter now.” Dexter remarked as he took his leave. Jayceon did the same and head to his bedroom.
***Liviana’s POV***
“Home at last.” She said as she stretched out her arms from the long day. Then she proceeds to her kitchen to heat up her prepped meal by her helper in the afternoon. As she prepares the table, she remembered that she must call her former secretary about the investor she should’ve met earlier. However, the only answer she got was, “The number you have dialled no longer exist.”
“Wow, how great!” She sarcastically said and starts to worry, which made her ask herself, “What should I do now?” After few minutes of thinking she realised, “Oh, I should eat dinner first! How else I could think of solutions?” After eating she washed the dishes and went straight to her room. Then while lying on her bed, she started to check through her phone and sees the need for her to start saving number instead of looking through messages to find the person she should call. Liviana then remembered that her old secretary had sent her a message of Jermaine’s profile in case she wants to check him out before their meeting earlier. So, she went her messages and called the contact number provided. Little did she know that her ex-assistant mistakenly interchanged all information of Jayceon Stone with Jermaine Schone. Then without thinking twice, she called the number.
“Hey Jermaine, I am sorry to call this late, but I have a problem. It seems like my former assistant already changed her number and I cannot find any information regarding the investor I was supposed to meet earlier. I really need your help with this one and it cannot wait until tomorrow.” Liviana said through the phone.
Jayceon who already know that this might happened so he kept his composure and not totally surprised with the phone call, replies to Liviana’s sentiment calmly, “Oh yeah, about that Liv. No need to worry. I already checked through the iPad you lent me, and I can say everything you need is in that tablet. I can totally arrange a meeting with you and Mr. Jayceon Stone.”
“Wow, really? You’re really amazing! I totally made the right decision hiring you. Thank you so much! See you tomorrow.” Liviana replied happily.
“See you and goodnight!” Jayceon responded with a smile.
“Goodnight.” She said and ended the call.
