I think a lot about how we as a culture have turned “forever” into the only acceptable definition of success.
Like… if you open a coffee shop and run it for a while and it makes you happy but then stuff gets too expensive and stressful and you want to do something else so you close it, it’s a “failed” business. If you write a book or two, then decide that you don’t actually want to keep doing that, you’re a “failed” writer. If you marry someone, and that marriage is good for a while, and then stops working and you get divorced, it’s a “failed” marriage.
The only acceptable “win condition” is “you keep doing that thing forever”. A friendship that lasts for a few years but then its time is done and you move on is considered less valuable or not a “real” friendship. A hobby that you do for a while and then are done with is a “phase” - or, alternatively, a “pity” that you don’t do that thing any more. A fandom is “dying” because people have had a lot of fun with it but are now moving on to other things.
I just think that something can be good, and also end, and that thing was still good. And it’s okay to be sad that it ended, too. But the idea that anything that ends is automatically less than this hypothetical eternal state of success… I don’t think that’s doing us any good at all.
If you get mad that people add image descriptions for your posts then just write them on your post to begin with. Don’t put image descriptions in reblogs (like saying “image description in next reblog”) and don’t put them under a cut / readmore, since that makes them harder to find and access. Please double-check your image descriptions for typos.
when making an image description, please be as clear and unbiased as possible, and don’t use jokey phrases or memes in your description unless it’s included in what’s being described. Don’t say something is “yeeted” across a room, say “thrown” or “chucked” or “flung”.
For example, if there’s a cat with a pink ribbon on its collar, don’t say it’s an image of “an adorable kitten with a pretty pink bow”. That’s making a judgement on others’ behalf— you decide what’s cute based on what you see, and people who need image descriptions should be able to decide on their own what is cute or not. It’s simply a cat with a pink bow.
This extends to artwork too— on top of being fair to people who need image descriptions, it can also be insulting to the artist if you give a description that’s biased in any way, especially negatively. Describe the colors, body language, what the characters are wearing, what the scenery is, but don’t pass judgement on the art. Describe warm tones that give a piece a certain atmosphere, or a character’s horrified reaction to something they see, or the way the composition flows to draw attention to an aspect of the drawing. You can say a drawing is cartoony or realistic or abstract. You can say things are “intricately detailed” or “the colors go outside of the lines”. Do not describe things as “poorly drawn” or “beautiful”, don’t point out flaws in the work, just be objective.
You can put your opinion of the image in the tags, away from the description, or you can make a separate post on your own blog about it.
For example, I’ll make up a fake image description here, as a general guide for how I personally would format it. There is no actual image in this post, this is just an example.
[Image description: a full-body drawing of Blorbo from My Shows. Blorbo is a pink alien with heart-shaped antennae, an elephant trunk, a fat round body, and stubby limbs. Blorbo’s eyes are closed and he has a happy expression on his face. There is no background, and the artist’s signature says “@castledock 2022” near Blorbo’s left arm. End description.]
A bad description would be if you describe Blorbo as an ugly alien that is a beautiful pink color with silly antennae, drawn in crude lines.
This is just a post I’m making on my free time and isn’t intended to be a complete guide to image descriptions. Please don’t comment on this post with questions for me or reblog with additions, and please don’t dm me or go into my askbox for advice.
Hey did you know I keep a google drive folder with linguistics and language books that I try to update regularly
UPDATE because apparently not everyone has seen this yet the new and improved version of this is a MEGA folder
I know there’s so many more urgent things but if you like this resource you may consider buying me a ko-fi to keep this project alive
This is your daily reminder to not be ashamed of making your life easy for yourself.
Cut your food into small pieces, make the font size 30 on your e book, use straws to drink, get a pen that’s comfortable to hold, take more naps, walk slowly, eat another cookie, buy velcro shoes, re-watch the part you couldn’t understand the first time, write things on your hands so you don’t forget it… whatever you want and/or need
Don’t let anyone tell you how you should be doing things. We don’t need to prove each other anything
A family can be two lesbian moms, a horse, a bird, and a boy who eats raw flour.
God dammit India, this is how furries are made. And of course Disney had a hand in this.
And if you didn’t think this was enough, have India’s official music release where they had people in fursuits of the main characters come out and dance. Enjoy your sexy canines belly dancing in real life.
Was Roadside Romeo ridiculous? You bet. We’re the songs good? Fuck yes they were omg.

help two gay students and their dog avoid being homeless!
i really hate having to turn to anyone for help after everything, but we honestly desperately need the money!! i’ll try to keep this as short as possible, feel free to message me with any questions.
my name is micah, my girlfriend bella and our baby puppy biscuit really need your help!
i left a shitty, abusive environment at home in california to live with her in washington. we only have until oct. 29th to find a new apartment, or will be kicked out and end up on the street. i’ve been looking for a new job, and i even have an interview, but they usually don’t pay you at all until four weeks, and i don’t have that long.
i just spent all the money i have on an application for an apartment that cost over $150. now we have no money for food, or anything else really. it’s not guaranteed that we’ll get this apartment, and we don’t get the application fee refunded.
i was supposed to get my financial aid today, which we were counting on because it was supposed to be over 1000 dollars. i registered for a class four days after the drop deadline, so they are refusing to pay the financial aid even though i paid for my books
i really need money to help cover some of the costs of moving into a new apartment. i also desperately need to have funds so i can go pick up my two cats that are still stuck at my old house.
right now we have no foreseeable way of getting food or even moving in to the new apartment if we are accepted. it’s really hard not to give up right now but we’re so close to being able to live in a safe environment where we can heal from our trauma and move on with our lives.
please please reblog or donate, anything even a dollar or 50 cents you can spare would go so far for us. i am so embarrassed to have to make this post, but i really need the help and id hate to see my partner or puppy in such a terrible situation. https://www.paypal.me/micahsage
we were actually accepted for the apartment!!!! but they told us we have a 200 holding fee which i can mostly cover because they refunded the application cost. we still need a lot of money to get in, around 800 dollars if not more because of other costs. it was supposed to be covered by my school money that im not actually getting, i only applied because i thought we would have enough by now
please please reblog this for us and please consider donating if you can spare even change, all the money would go to housing for us, we have to pay first and a deposit on top of the fee.
