“Absolutely not. I haven’t heard you play since college, Shou-chan. Where’s your guitar? Play for me, play for me!” Maybe it would keep the monsters away for a few minutes. And maybe he was a little lonely.

Shouichi wriggled helplessly in Byakuran’s hold, to no avail before clearing his throat in embarrassment. “Just because I occasionally play an instrument doesn’t mean I have kept singing too.”

So he did still play guitar. “Fine, fine~ Play an instrument for me, then, Shou-chan!” he pouted, leaning against him. “We haven’t talked in so long, you know? Aren’t we best friends~?”

“Well, it’s got more to do with a phone notification than my memory, but sure.” He stumbled a bit to regain perfect balance under Byakuran’s arm, but the follow-up question had him nearly shove Byakuran off again. “And no, I can’t say I was planning on that this time.”

“But you remembered to set the notification!” At one point, probably years ago, but optimism. Byakuran clung to him, refusing to be pushed away, and whined. “I haven’t heard you sing since college, Shou-chan! Don’t you still play the guitar? I bet you do where no one can hear.”

One arm wrapped around the bag of marshmallows as if it were a treasure, Byakuran wrapped his other arm around Shouichi’s shoulders. “Are you going to serenade me for my birthday?”

When a box was left at the Millefiore doorstep with no footage of its arrival, the first thing that was done was a thorough bomb check. Then a booby trap check. Then a poison check (and so on).

They didn’t do a gag gift check.

With a long sigh, Byakuran set the toy aside. This was a lot to chew on--no pun intended.
