Alabama A&M University Foundation Named November School Of The Month

This month, we have been celebrating Alabama Agricultural and Mechanical University, located in Normal, Ala.

As one of the Tom Joyner Foundation ‘Schools of the Month’,each school will be promoted on the Tom Joyner Morning Show and receive those funds raised from listeners, alumni and other interested parties that month. The show, aired in 115 markets around the country, reaches nearly eight million listeners every week.

So far, we have named two Hercules Scholars, with the latter being, Andrew Jones (pictured above). Jones is a sophomore, physics major, from Kansas City, Mo.

Renald Talley of Tennessee State awarded $1,500 scholarship

All in the family. The last Hercules Scholar for the month of October is Renald Talley. Talley is a junior, accounting major, from Chicago, III.

Upon graduating from Tennessee State, Talley would like to attend graduate school to obtain his masters in accounting, and then take the CPA exam.

At Tennessee State, he is a Student Ambassador and Vice President of the Accounting club.

Tennessee State junior recipient of $1,500 Hercules Scholarship

Ronald Talley, a junior, accounting major, from Chicago, lll, has been named this week’s Hercules Scholar.

Upon earning his degree, Talley plans to complete his CPA exam and pursue a master’s degree in accounting.

At Tennessee State, his campus involvements include: University ambassador, a member of the TSU Chicago Club, the social chair of the Accounting club, and a member of the Phi Eta Sigma National Honor’s Society.

Aspiring cardiologist recipient of $1,500 scholarship

Have you met this week’s Hercules Scholar? Jaquantey Bowens is a sophomore, biology major.

Upon earning his degree, Bowens aspires to attend medical school and become a cardiologist. At Tennessee State, his involvements include: secretary of the Honors Council, corresponding secretary of Psi Eta Sigma Honor Society, and parliamentarian in the American Medical Student Association.

Tennessee State University Foundation Named October School Of The Month Partner

It’s October! That means we will celebrate Tennessee State University all month long. During the month of October, we have partnered with the Tennessee State University Foundation (TSU Foundation) to raise scholarship funds for students attending Tennessee State.

We have awarded our first Hercules Scholar for the month, Romin Geiger. Romin is a junior, psychology major, from Sacramento, Calif. Learn more about him here.

Prairie View sophomore recipient of $1,500 scholarship

This week’s Hercules Scholar and the last one for the month of September is Alexander Goodwin. Alexander is a sophomore, political science major, from Houston, Tex.

Upon graduation, Alexander plans to further his education by earning a masters and doctorate degree in sociology.

At Prairie View, his involvements include: the National Society of Collegiate Scholars, B.L.A.C.K.(Brothers Leading and Cultivating Knowledge), and the Political Science Club.

Future Pediatric Oncologist recipient of Hercules Scholarship

Have you met this week’s Hercules Scholar? Xavier Rice is a sophomore, biology major, from Fort Worth, Tex.

This 4.0 GPA honor student aspires to receive his medical degree and then become a Pediatric Oncologist.

Some of his campus involvements include: President of the Minority Association Pre-Medical Students (M.A.P.S) chapter and a member of the Prairie View Christian Mime ministry.

Prairie View A&M National Alumni Association named September School of the Month partner

Panther Pride has been strong since the start of the campaign. We have partnered with the Prairie View A&M National Alumni Association (PVAMNAA) to raise scholarship funds for students attending Prairie View.

So far we have already awarded two $1,500 scholarships to deserving male students attending Prairie View, and the next will be announced on Thursday, September 17.

As a partner with the Tom Joyner Foundation ‘Schools of the Month’, the PVAMNAA and its chapters will be promoted on the Tom Joyner Morning Show and receive those funds raised from listeners, alumni and other interested parties that month. Tuskegee senior recipient of $1,500 scholarship

This week’s Hercules Scholar is Mario Morejon. Mario is a senior, mechanical engineering major, from Miami, Fla.

At Tuskegee, he is a part of the National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE), Pi Tau Sigma Mechanical Engineering Honor Society, and a distinguished presidential scholar.

Tuskegee University Named August School Of The Month

It’s August! We have had a great start for our August school of the month campaign for Tuskegee University. The University was founded by Dr. Booker T. Washington on July 4, 1881.

Did you know? Tuskegee is the only college or university campus in the nation to be designated a National Historic Site by the U.S. Congress.

As one of the Tom Joyner Foundation ‘Schools of the Month’, each school will be promoted by the Tom Joyner Morning Show and receive those funds raised from listeners, alumni and other interested parties that month. Spelman rising sophomore recipient of $1,500 scholarship

This week’s Buddy Scholar is Simone Stinnette of Spelman College. Simone is a rising sophomore, biology major, from Austin, Tex.

After earning her degree, she plans to obtain her MD and then a PhD in Public Health.

At Spelman, she is a member of PULSE: Programming for a Unique and Lively Spelman Experience and a Student Ambassador. In the Atlanta Community, she volunteers at KIPP WAYS Primary School where she helps tutor 5th grade students in science.

She lives by the scripture: Philippians 4:8.

About the Buddy Scholarship

The Buddy Scholarship is named after Tom Joyner’s mother, the late Buddy Joyner, who was a strong supporter of higher education. To be a candidate for the scholarship, students must be female, attend a Foundation “School of the Month”, have a grade point average of at least 3.5, and be a campus leader involved in the community with a career goal toward making a difference in the quality of life for her race. The scholars each receive a scholarship grant of $1,500 that is paid directly to their school to help offset their college expenses.

This week’s Hercules Scholar is Corey Hagans, Jr. of South Carolina State University. Corey is a senior, music education major, from Columbia, S. C.

Corey’s future aspirations are to attend graduate school, ultimately becoming a principal as well as a high school band director.

His campus involvements include: the Army ROTC, Marching 101 Pep Band, and Honors College.

He lives by the motto: “You have to do what you have to do in order to get where you want to be”.

This week’s Hercules Scholar is Raymond McCants,III of Jackson State University. Raymond is a senior, business management/business marketing major from Detroit, Mich.

Upon earning his degree, Raymond plans to attend graduate school to receive his MBA. He also plans to return back home to lead the charge in the revitalization of the neighborhood.

On campus, his involvements include: representative of the Business College, vice president of the JSU Investment Club, and treasurer of the JSU Accounting Society.

Pharmacy student recipient of $1,500 scholarship

The last Hercules Scholar for Xavier’s June 2015 school of the month campaign is Chandler Schexnayder. Chandler is a P3, Pharmacy major, from Patterson, La.

Upon earning his degree at Xavier, he plans to take on a residency and specialize in oncology or diabetes as a clinical pharmacist with an adjunct as a professor.

Some of Chandler’s campus involvements include: president of the Xavier University Chapter of the Student National Pharmaceutical Association, a member of the Delta Eta Chapter of Kappa Psi Pharmaceutical Fraternity, and a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., Beta Tau Chapter.

This week’s Hercules Scholar is Hassan Owens. Hassan is a sophomore, Chemistry/Pre-Pharmacy major, from St. Louis, Mo.

Hassan’s aspiration is to become a pharmacist with a specialization in oncology pharmaceuticals.

Some of his involvements at Xavier include: a member of the Student National Pharmaceutical Association, a writer for the University newspaper, and a peer tutor.
