COFA1002 Assessment 3 Collaborative Publication - Progress
While exploring the possibilities of “Post-anything””, my group decided to modified the focus to “Post-internet”, presenting how the internet changed in the future.
I have created some more illustration, using daily objects (Street Sign, Camera and fireball) to create like vagueness, feeling like these objects and logos will possible be appeared in the internet in the future, like aliens symbols.
Thinking how to corporate with my group’s overall work.

Having a interesting favour in Tim Tam Biscuit found recently, I was thinking how to edit the object to achieve the “post-anything” concept in my group collaborative publication.
So I was trying to use the cut-outs of the biscuit, duplicate, overlapping and rearrange to look different like a kind of new chocolate in the future...

Hi all!
Hopefully you’re well on way to producing a great PDF publication for your group work. Below are some tips in case you need a little direction, or to help you as you engage your ideas.
/ This assessment asks you to make a publication. Think of it as an art/design magazine, the kind you’d see at a book fair or market or event or exhibition. Imagine finding a 12-page magazine that takes one cool idea and explores it from an art/design perspective. Think of it like the kind of object you’d want to download, print off, stick to your wall.
/ You are asked to use the 2015 Venice Biennale’s curatorial theme as your inspiration. This does NOT mean that the assessment asks you to write a report on the Venice Biennale. Think of it like a contribution to the exhibition. Ross put it really nicely – imagine the curator of the Biennale has asked you to send something for inclusion in the exhibition. You can make whatever you like, but it has to consider the theme of ‘All tomorrow’s futures’ in some way – maybe by talking about innovation, or apocalypse, or utopia, or dystopia, or tomorrow, or today, or time, or technology.
/ Like with every assessment in this course, this publication is a work of art and a designed object. So think about everything that you do – how you use space, image, text, form. This is not an essay; it’s a studio work that happens to be a publication. Think about what some of the possibilities are in terms of contemporary publishing – the integration of media in PDFs, the use of zooming in and out of digital files, the layering of data, the use of scanned material objects, the use of text and typography. The sky’s the limit!
Clare has helpfully posted instructions on how to submit the file via Moodle. Make sure you read them and follow them exactly. Good luck!

You will need to upload the PDF to Moodle. An assignment box will become visible by the end of this week in the “Assignments” section.
Only one student from each group needs to upload the PDF, but make sure all your names are on that document!

Background
What is glitch? Unpredictable failure, accident, error, 404 Not Found, problem… it is commonly found in digital medium, from videos to online games. Unusual displays of blurry, analogue, pixels, lines and etc. are meant to express the failure in the computing programing. It cannot be predicted, there is no time indication or any symptoms until it eventually happens. It is an annoying, distracting, time consumed, unsuccessful and impossible event.
Glitch can be happened at any forms of digital medium, waiting for too long to load a game, screen frozen, moving of a stopped display, failure to display data or results, game elements failure are commonly found in real life. But there could be more, glitch is likely a remix culture, mixing different format and pattern and content to create the failure. In this assessment, glitch is presented with regarding to what we observed during the event. It is a way of seeing, how it can be transformed as a creative approach.
Concept / Ideas
Extending from the previous assessment, although glitch is found as failure within a system, from the observation, glitch is also found as a remix, fusion or cross over, chaos, clashes or crashes, and randomness or chances, which can be extended to express in contemporary art and design.
In a system, it is composed of millions or unlimited series of coding, the system itself is generated in a computing hardware. Computing devices are invented by the educated and knowledgably experienced in scripting the program. However, there is nothing to be perfect, in real time examples, students could experience a mistake and fail to complete a task. In digital world, the inexpert will come out with error indications.
In terms of remix, the animation has combined different objects, avatar like human figures, real life objects, food, computing devices and even more, glitch can remix everything discarding the forms, matter, weight and value.
In terms of fusion or cross over, fusion meant to be combination of cells in scientific perspective .In the animation, although it is played at an intensive speed, imagining to look into details, think and analysis those moving objects, two or more objects are randomly overlapped, the transparency created on different layers of video, illusions are seen and observed like a false judgement.
In terms of clash or crashes, although there is no indication of performing such act, from the demonstration of moving images at different direction, images are travelling everywhere accidentally, keep intersecting against each other, which has created another illusion.
In terms of randomness and chances, there is always a contingent forms of expression, the animation is generated with formulas to command. Formulas can be calculated and determine the fate of the overall result. The selection and creation of objects appeared in the animation could also be generated randomly. For example, food and real time objects may not have any connection to the digital content. As long it is just a capture, it becomes part of it.
Approach
In the final work, the animation expresses the above concepts, using Scalable Vector Graphics (SVG) to generate an interactive display. Unfortunately, because of the inexperienced in coding, it cannot be finalized as a video game; creatively, it is a failure attempt. Instead, it is transformed to stimulate the gaming technology. Feeling like the objects are fully controlled from the keyboard and mouse, this is the first glitch.
The second glitch is failed to be merged all layers to be presented without transparency, it is eventually created to duplicate them to create illusion as a kind of characteristic in glitch art.
The third glitch is presenting the original source of my animation, since it is composed of screen recording which records the SVG animation through a web browser.
The final glitch is presenting an accidental failure from the coding, which is developed when typing series of formulas, mistyping some commands or having an extra letter which corrupts the part of the animation.
Glitch can be found at any forms of medium, but it is simple and clear to present digitally.
