TMNT ZERO MASTERPOST
Hello there! Welcome to my TMNT blog, where I post all things pertaining to my fan iteration: TMNT zero!
But I don't WANT to draw my comic rn, I want to draw ANGST and COMFORT but also I can't do that either cause I don't have any IDEAS do you see my issue?
This is about Zero lol. Sometimes I'm so tempted just to make the most bare bones comic about all the most interesting parts because I want to see peoples reactions, but I also want it to really mean something when I reveal those parts and in order to do that I need a bunch of context that seems really mundane compared to what I *want* to show you lol. The wolf on the left usually wins. and yes, this is part of the reason I haven't updated the comics in a hot minute
yknow something that bothers me? Tmnt is the only superhero franchise I can think of that doesn't get respect as a story for adults.
Like, yes, you have plenty of merchandise and TV shows for spiderman, batman, etc etc etc that is specifically for kids. But I think if you asked around? 9 out of 10 adults would call those superheroes all ages and great stories for adults.
Tmnt on the other hand? You would be HAAARD pressed to find any adults outside the fandom that would say tmnt is an all ages/adult franchise.
It can't be because the most well known version is the goofy 87 cartoon. Cause like, every cartoon was goofy back then, but all the other superheroes still got out of it.
Tonally and visually, 2003 tmnt is no different from any other superhero cartoon of the early 2003s. The comics have always stayed gritty! Up until this week they've never even made anything that aimed for a lower demographic then 9-12 years old (unlike the many times marvel characters have been kiddified, or something like teen titans go)
Heck I remember most of the press around last Ronin being about how they "made a tmnt comic for adults" as if that was out of the ordinary and a first of it's kind thing to do.
So why? Why is it that tmnt is the ONLY super hero cartoon that can't seem to get any respect?
I can only think of two reasons:
One: the main characters are animals and these dimwits can't take that seriously.
Or two: because it it's primarily animated (imo they have never looked good in a realistic style) and people don't respect animation.
Both options are so so dissapointing. Thanks to this obnoxious stigma around animation and anthro characters, I can't answer the question "what's your favorite TV show?" Without getting scrutiny and weird looks.
Man. It would have been way more socially lucrative for me to get really into spiderman lol
Just saw the announcement for the new tmnt cartoon.
I need to destroy things. Preferably things that belong to viacom.
Tales of the tmnt didn't die for ts man.

Congrats, Splinter, you're a father! I hope you make good decisions with this news!
yall ain't prepared for the next part of deeper down
What if I made Leo and/or Mikey claustrophobic because of... Hm. well, I'm sure you can figure it out.

In another timeline, Donnie's atrocious self preservation instincts turned him into a roblox statistic :( But we're back! I figured since I finally got two deeper down updates in, it was only fair to work on the next installment of this. This comic is meant to be short, so we're actually a good way through already.
I have no wifi but I must post comic
Alopex and Slash when they were younger, to tide ya over.
just a quick update:
I had a ren fair which required very rapid costume assembly last week, assembly, an event this weekend, and it's spring on a farm so yard work abounds.
The eagerness is present, but the hands aren't home.
This audio felt very Mikey to me, so you get an impromptu animation!

There, that was much less of a wait!
It seems a lot of you thought Splinter was going to return to find missing turtles. Fortunately he didn't, but he was sick enough that I doubt he would have noticed if he did.
Anyway he's about to learn something cool.
One question I'd like to know, since the live-action version of TMNT: Mutant Chaos was cancelled and this version will end with the movie, is: what do you expect from a future new version of TMNT, such as a new live-action film and possibly a new TMNT cartoon?
Like, would you prefer a more serious tone like 2003 and 2012, or a lighter, more comedic tone like the two most recent versions of TMNT? April returning to her more classic design like her most remembered version from '87, or continuing with her current design?
I think this is a very interesting topic to discuss.
See this is a tough question for me cause I genuinely don't know? I've said this before, but TMNT zero is basically just my ideal version of tmnt (as best as I can make it by myself, anyway) all I'm doing here is re-writing the story in a way that I would like to see it play out. That being said, I think one of TMNT's biggest strengths and the only reason it has lasted as long as it has in pop culture is BECAUSE of it's reinvention. If it was still the same way it had been in the 90's it would have died long ago. But instead, it's still popular with children and adults alike. Why? because it's willing to change and adapt and try new things. Same as MLP or transformers. The goal with these types of franchises is longevity, not legend. So my opinions about how the franchise "should" go are very different then they would be if I was discussing something like httyd or lion king.
That being said, what would I, personally, like to see from it?
Well I definitely prefer the serious tone. I know you categorized rise as "comedic" in this, and it is, but what I think it has that 2003 and anything before it doesn't is that it also takes itself very seriously in some key pivotal moments and it let's it's characters feel the emotions associated. 2003 should have let the boys hug and/or cry when they needed to I will die on that hill. I want more of that. Tottmnt had some excellent opportunities for really good, angsty plot points and they never took it with the weight it deserved. I get it. "Teenage mutant ninja turtles" is a ridiculous concept, but we're all here aren't we? So humor us and take the threats seriously.
Visually I want cartoons, 100%. I have a lot of criticisms for Mutant Mayhem but the visual style will never be one of them because the unique spin they put on the visual style was PERFECT. I also think that Rise and tales are both some of the best tmnt cartoons visually. They have personality and the action scenes are so on point.
I've never liked tmnt in live action. Bayverse and the 90's films are both so visually offputting for me, I do not like them. I don't think it's impossible to make a live action turtle that looks good, but I do think the people who get the final say over most tmnt content have a pretty awful idea of what looks good in 3D. Like please sir, stop giving them lips and stop putting so much emphasis on the teeth, and stop making them beef-caked like they're on steroids, these are supposed to be teenagers. I'm super biased tho. I will always always always prefer animation to live action. As for April? No preference. He design doesn't mean bumpkis to me, she is beautiful as a white woman and she's gorgeous as a black woman, and TMNT is canonically a multiverse so we can have both at once and that entire debate is silly and awful. Just so long as they don't objectify her and give her a good personality, I'll be happy.

FINALLY!
Lord willing, that is the last of the locational montages and I can get back to only needing a normal amount of backgrounds per update cause YIKES! But I think the worst is behind me, and the scene I based this entire comic around is only a few updates away, so HOPEFULLY I will pick up speed from here!
