Another thing about Tim Curry. After his stroke when he was confined to a wheelchair, he did not allow himself to be sat in a corner & hidden from the public eye. He kept working, kept going to cons, kept making appearances. He became a highly visible example of a beloved ablebodied person who suddenly became disabled. I think his refusal to disappear helped destigmatize disability and helped fans better understand what it's like to love someone through a disabling life change.

like i just can’t. 12 kids in a one-room cabin in tennessee, listened to her mom who sang folk songs while working, started singing in church at 6 years old, released her first single at 13, became so wildly loved and famous and rich and still at every turn found ways to give to the poor, the undereducated, gave away so much wealth she made tangible change in the economy. books, covid vaccines, theme park… sang about women’s rights (and wrongs), sang about worker’s rights, sang about poor people, sang about love. collabed with so many incredible artists. acted in movies, received death threats for being accepting of trans people. never fucking missed. all while being the sparkliest, pinkest, blondest, giggliest. unapologetically

If you take one thing from Dolly Parton's life and example, let it be that getting older doesn't mean you have to diminish and slowly disappear.

Amid all the challenges and tragedies she stayed just as kind, creative, strong, generous, tenderhearted, funny and playful as ever. What a powerful example she set.

She never stopped being a rhinestone bombshell because that's what she wanted to be. It was never time for her to stop being camp, or glam, and start being just little old Aunt Granny all the time. She wrote her songs, cracked her jokes and she valued herself and her work and her joy so immensely.

What an inspiration. You don't have to anticipate melting into nothingness when you hit 60. You don't have to believe you'll become bitter, narrowminded, and meanspirited just because it seems like so many older people do. You don't have to give up all the things that nurture and feed your spark because it's time to... what? Be a little old lady?

Hell no.

You can, in fact, be unapologetically you right up until the moment you die.

the dancing scene in Tangled always gets to me because like... the king and queen are grieving, this is the hardest day for them, they don't take part in the celebration other than lighting the first lantern. but she's right there she's in the town the person you miss she's in the town she's painting the streets she's singing she's playing with the children. the person you're grieving is here and she's alive and she's dancing outside your window
