I finally posted the first chapter of my McKirk Academy AU! You can find it here! I hope you enjoy :)

Summary:

A young Jim Kirk runs away from home and meets an attractive stranger at a bar, but before anything can happen between them a fight breaks out. Jim ends up hurt and embarrassed, relieved he'll never have to see the man again ... until they end up on the same shuttle heading to Starfleet Academy. As roommates, Jim and Bones slowly grow closer, navigating Academy life, past trauma, and a visit by Joanna -- and falling in love along the way.

The story is basically set during the AOS timeline (because of the Academy setting) but the characters are kind of a mix (aka they're supposed to be their TOS versions -- Bones has blue eyes because I just can't imagine him otherwise -- but Bones also calls Jim "kid" so there's some AOS influence).

I'm posting chapters as I write them and updating this post whenever a new chapter is up! Current status: 8/12 chapters posted

watching: wellll i am not actively watching anything right now but i am in the watch process of spy x family and the last of us, and ive got a few animes in mind to watch soon!

reading: mostly fanfic right now, im waiting for exams to finish before starting a new book. last book was Hungerstone by Kat Dunn (sooo good i got a physical copy within the hour of finishing it hehe) and Rouge by Mona Awad is waiting for me on Libby :p

reading: unhealthy amounts of fanfic (no, seriously, it's a LOT) and I just started reading project hail mary because I absolutely loved the movie!!

last google search: "star trek voyager child's play" (I'm using this episode as one of the case studies for my thesis, and had to look something up)

currently working on: in terms of fics, I'm still working on my mckirk academy AU ... it's been more than a whole year since I had the idea 😭 to be fair, I wrote like 80% of it in one month, but now I haven't posted since december and I feel guilty ... but I've been extremely busy, because I'm also currently working on my BA thesis, lots of uni work, and making a short film!

coffee or tea: TEA! I love tea a lot, I have a huge tea collection and drink multiple cups a day haha, and I can't stand coffee for some reason

phone wallpaper/lockscreen: I'm always switching up my wallpaper and lockscreen every few days because I have so many interests and get bored quickly, so I just cycle through different fanart, personal photos (mostly of my cats) and random other stuff. Currently it's a bunch of data fanart by @aphrostiel because it's so pretty!! And my phonecase actually shows data and spot so it's a perfect match hehe

what makes this cancellation so sad to me is that this show isn't just genuinly enjoyable but most importantly not afraid to do something new and explore the future of star trek. so many franchises these days rely on nostalgia baiting and regurgitating the same stuff over and over again. and, don't get me wrong, sometimes that can be fun (hell, I really enjoyed seeing the tng crew back together in picard s3, I'm definitely not immune to fan service), but at the end of the day, star trek has to move on and move forward in order to survive, like it always has. it's why I didn't enjoy the latest season of snw, even though I thought the show had real potential in the beginning, because, to me, it was afraid to actually tell new stories and explore new issues, and instead just relied on nostalgia. and so it also makes me really mad to see that starfleet academy is getting cancelled, while there's talks for a potential star trek: year one. because I love the original series (genuinly probably my favourite star trek, if you couldn't tell based on my blog), I understand the nostalgia for it, and I think the actors of snw have done a great job at stepping into the shoes of these iconic characters, but do we really need another show that basically just relies on nostalgia for tos? I doubt it. especially when we could have had more of starfleet academy, a show that, to me, has finally achieved what every great star trek show has done best: moving the franchise forward, and exploring current issues through stories about the future.

sfa cancellation is absolute bullshit. Im so sorry. Ds9 s1 was utter shite save for emissary and duet (dont lie to urselves lads), thats 20 episodes in 1 season. SFA got 10 to prove itself and was cancelled. Really sad. Doesnt rly matter if you dont fw nutrek, it didnt get the chance it deserved to pick up. I liked it a lot more than SNW.

this!! what makes me mad is that it didn't really get the time to actually develop. 10 episodes per season are already criminal, but with only 20 episodes total there's basically no room for character and plot development, and for the show to find it's "groove", in a way. like, the first season of TNG alone had more episodes (26), and honestly, as much as I adore TNG, I don't think it was actually "good" or found it's true potential until season three ...
