Side blog! Mtg shit. If you couldn't tell, yes my fav villain is Elesh Norn and New Phyrexia (but not March of the Machine, bcus it sucked :( wish they would've done better). All will be one.

Magic isn't the same as when I started, and it's not the game I love anymore. Maybe that's a good thing and I'm stuck in the past, or maybe it's a bad thing and I'll be vindicated in a few years. Who knows? I sure as hell don't, but I don't have the patience or money to consume magic sets and stories I don't care about. But this isn't even about me not having the patience, it's because I don't want to be that crotchety old man for people who like the way Magic is now. If I'm wrong they'll have a better time with my absence, and if I'm right they'll figure it out eventually.

I'll keep playing Magic, but I'm not touching new cards. And hell, it's not like I was anyways.

This blog is gonna stick around, I'm just not gonna comment on new stuff. I'm gonna pop up now and then with custom cards, and I hope they get notes but I know they won't. And that sucks but, hey, what can ya do?

If other Magic people feel the same, feel free to rb, I'd kinda like to see what y'all think.

We won our UWOTC-CWA union election!

Today is a momentous day for the workers of Arena! After months of planning, waiting and organizing, our dream is finally a reality; the votes have been counted, and our union of UWOTC-CWA has been officially elected. 

From this day forward, we have a union! To the thousands who signed our petition letter, the journalists who let us tell our own story, every person who reached out with words of encouragement, our stewards at the CWA who helped guide us, we cannot thank you enough for your support.

We stand on the shoulders of giants, and we can only hope that our victory in turn inspires others to start unionizing at their own workplaces. Change is possible when workers stand together!

We hope to share good news of a ratified contract with all of you soon.

Tell Wizards of the Coast to Recognize Our Union!

Since the announcement of our union, Wizards of the Coast and Hasbro have hired Fisher Phillips (a union avoidance firm), and chosen to engage in a daily union-avoidance campaign by sending emails to the Arena team that is spreading misinformation and sowing fear among our colleagues.

Instead of voluntarily recognizing our union, they've forced us into a redundant and drawn-out election process, rather than listening to the overwhelming majority of employees who signed our initial letter to management.

WOTC and Hasbro can still voluntarily recognize our union at any point up to the NLRB election. We encourage you to sign our letter of support, and make your voice heard.

As our union election nears, we want to provide more details around the issues that our coworkers and members have expressed as important to them. 

The ongoing RTO mandate from Hasbro was a major issue that brought many people into the union. Over the past 5 years MTGA has operated almost entirely remote as the company continues to celebrate record profits. The RTO push is a needless effort from out of touch executives that would force people to uproot their lives and put undo harm on our coworkers and friends.

UWOTC-CWA is seeking transparency and consistency in career progression and pay for Arena employees. Leadership has continued to acknowledge

Career progression and pay is an important issue for UWOTC-CWA members. Every employee deserves to have clearly defined performance metrics, reliable expectations for pay, and a clear path forward in their career growth.

Leadership has continued to acknowledge a backlog in deserved promotions, yet only a few people are promoted each year. High-performing employees are put in the position of continuously proving that they exceed the expectations of their role.

This results in people working above their level for years without due compensation or recognition. UWOTC-CWA is seeking transparency and consistency in career progression and pay for all Arena employees, and we look forward to discussing this at the bargaining table after we secure union representation

In our letter to management this past Monday, we called on Wizards of the Coast and Hasbro to take the high road and voluntarily recognize our union by Friday, May 1st. That deadline has now come and gone, with no direct response from the company. Management claims to be committed to ensuring every person is heard, valued, and supported. However, when we spoke up about our desire to unionize, they responded only to the press.

We still maintain that the success of our union is inevitable. The company has witnessed the tremendous outpouring of support and positive attention that our campaign has received from the public and the press. They have received our voluntary recognition letter with the names of a super-majority of the Arena team. We are confident that we are going to win recognition of this union; it's only a question of time. We look forward now towards the NLRB election, which we expect to be held within the coming weeks.

We want to thank all of our supporters for the incredible show of solidarity we've received from the wider Magic community. More than 30,000 people have already signed our public petition calling on Wizards of the Coast to recognize our union. We've heard so many messages of support from players, influencers, content creators, and more. Please keep up the pressure and continue urging WOTC and Hasbro to do the right thing; they can still choose to voluntarily recognize our union any time before the impending election.

Today is International Workers’ Day. It is also the day we hope to hear from Wizards of the Coast and Hasbro on whether they will take the high road, do the right thing, and demonstrate their stated values of caring about the workers as the lifeblood of the company by voluntarily recognizing our union. 

We have been blown away by the outpouring of public support we have received. As of this morning we have over 30,000 signatures of support on our petition. We are so thankful to every single person who signed, every person who shared our petition and all those who lent their voices in videos, posts, and comments to amplify our cause. 

If you’re attending MagicCon Vegas this weekend and want to show your support, we encourage you to wear something red on Saturday in solidarity with UWOTC-CWA! If you aren't able to make it to MagicCon, send us a picture of yourself wearing red through any of our socials to show your support from anywhere in the world. And of course, please make sure to sign our petition if you haven't already at https://cwa.org/uwotcletter! 

While WOTC and Hasbro will still have the option to voluntarily recognize us at any time before an NLRB election, we have already established we have a super-majority of employees committed to our cause. Arena workers have shown that we want this, and recognizing our union is the best way to foster a workplace where every voice feels heard, valued, and supported.

We strongly encourage that Wizards of the Coast and Hasbro leadership demonstrate their dedication to having a direct relationship with their employees by voluntarily recognizing our union before the close of business today, International Workers’ Day. Commit to meeting us at the bargaining table in good faith, hearing our voices, and finding a better path forward together.
