Okay, things have settled a bit so I feel like I can talk a bit more about it.

My dog got a cancer diagnosis last week, and these last few days have been a mess of worrying and preparing for the worst. I saw the oncologist today and his prognosis is fairly good, but it was a huge mental shock and now I want nothing more than to just lay down with him on the floor and scratch his favorite spots. Writing doesn’t feel all that important after such a sudden and harsh reality check: that he’s getting older and I won’t have him forever. I’ll be adding stuff here and there, editing things and trying to update, but he’s the priority

I love writing sometimes bc of all the rabbit holes it takes me down. The things I’ve learned about range from pigeons to radioactivity to the ideal bullet for a given enemy and the requirements for it to do maximum damage. I am a bounty of eclectic and concerning information :)

No one ever talks about how hard it can be getting back into a fic after a dry spell. On top of subtle (or drastic) changes in your writing style, you have to comb through the previous chapters to make sure everything is still cohesive. It’s taking a while, but I am getting back into the swing of things and I hope to update Yeehaw Junction before April, so stay tuned!

Lots of writing advice on tumblr. It's been years since I've written fiction in a serious way, but I did write a couple of (bad) novels in my early 20's, a bunch of short stories, and also a few hundred thousand words of LARP writing, and I do have a bacherlor's of science in creative writing (lol).

From what I can tell, there are only three universally applicable pieces of writing advice:

Read a lot (mandatory)

Show your writing to people (mandatory)

Have something wrong with you in a way that is impossible to articulate except by writing a novel (optional)
