All I ever see are blind Deku or Todoroki but never Shinsou. Likewise with Deaf Kaminari, we only ever really see Deaf Bakugo or Present Mic.
He’s always been told he’s never going to be a hero. He ‘can’t be, he’s got a villain Quirk AND he’s blind? nope, that kid can’t do it.’
Until, that is, he gets lost on his way home from the store (he got distracted and forgot how many paces he’s already taken) and a hero (Eraserhead) is on patrol and escorts him home.
This, of course, leads to Aizawa coming and spending time at his orphanage with him. He communicates mostly through JSL since he’s got a ‘villain Quirk’ and needs to wear a muzzle.
Aizawa and his husband, Yamada, make it their personal mission to train this kid even during the adoption process.
Yamada encourages Shinsou to work on his vocal range and Aizawa shows him how to use a capture scarf in a way that Aizawa usually uses when his vision gets really blurry (you can’t tell me a man with chronic dry eye doesn’t get blurry vision or even occasionally lose vision after too long in batle)
Auntie Kayama has Auntie Fukukado help train him too.

Uncle Iida (Tensei) always takes him to the park and they train speed for hours before either of them gets tired.
Literally all of them recommend him for the hero course and Nedzu just goes ‘well shit, I can’t NOT accept the recommendations’ and puts him through to the Hero Courses.
Shinsou takes Mineta’s spot, Mineta doesn’t exist.
His quirk made him deaf. He shocked himself so hard, it bursted his eardrums so now he’s deaf.
When he gets into the Hero Courses, he meets a cute blind boy with purple hair.
Upon meeting him and experiencing how adorable his is, Kami almost immediately zaps the electricity in the whole school out and everyone just sighs really loudly because they just KNOW this is gonna be an every few days thing.
Since Kami can’t rely on JSL for talking to Hitoshi (‘HE CAN’T SEE IT’) he actually uses his voice and talks to Shinsou instead.
Shinsou is actually very proficient at JSL because one of his dads is blind so Yamada taught him.
Their communication method goes like this: Shinsou= signs something to Kaminari, Kaminari= speaks aloud to him in response. Occasionally, they’ll both go nonverbal so they’ll use morse code on each other’s hands/arms/wrists and the other students are amazed how well they work together even though they ‘shouldn’t’ by societal standards.
It’s really not a shock when they start dating after . Everyone was just waiting for it.
Kaminari gets the Shovel Talk from five different pro heroes of varying levels of terriying. But he will endure this for his purple bf because he loves him.
When Aizawa and Yamada adopt Eri, she immediately signs ‘brother-in-law’ Kami and Kaminari wants to die but Shinsou just tells her not yet and he just dies that much more.
Aizawa takes pictures of all their in-dorm couple moments and puts them in a scrapbook titled “This Boy Better Be My Son In Law In 10 Years Or So Help Me”.
