Gwen Stacy: Ultimate Spider-Man issue 23
sensationalscarlet:
——Signs of shock riddled his face and he rubbed his arm slightly with a giggly blush. He shut his eyes and lowered his head with a shake of his head. Wow, was he bad at this. He was absolutely terrible at being subtle, more so at flirting with women. Especially with women he found attractive. One he had a past history with no doubt. He swallowed and bit his lip, opening his eyes to peek through his blush. "I uh.. I dunno. We could decide when we get there or something.." Ben murmured. Oh Ben Reilly, you dog.
Oh that was adorable. Gwen was grinning ear to ear--quite like a cheshire cat if she was being honest with herself. He'd started it after all, but she couldn't quite find it in herself to fault someone giving her such a sheepish expression, as if the question had simply come out of nowhere rather than from him.
There was that nagging voice in the back of her head that reminded her of a bunch of lab reports that she had sitting on her desk at home that needed to be looked over, but those could wait another few hours, surely. "So when d'you finish up here?"
faceitxtiger:
❝Good cause I worry about Pete. — Wait a child genuis? Those are like still a thing? Don’t worry about it Gwen. I’m sure you’ve got this in the bag. So what else is new? What’s with that spider guy, right?❞
"You and me both. He'd be lost without us. Apparently. I hope I do anyway. Not much? Other than Harry making his sudden re-appearance. Right, I mean that's some kinda crazy, right?" If only she knew the half of it.

——”Well yeah, everyone says they’re the best. Probably cause they believe it themselves. I.. think it’s a hard way to go on in life without thinking you’re the best. That’s what makes you fall down. Sure, there’s speedbumps every now and then, but damn.. life’s what you make it.” he said, looking ahead and then looking down at his own cup of coffee. He didn’t mean to monologue, but that speech wasn’t just for her, exactly. It was for his own knowledge as well. "Sorry.. uh, I didn’t mean to go on a tangent," he said with a small smile. "Well.. I know what more a girl could ask for." Ben looked over at her with a cocked eyebrow, a silly smile to boot. Yep, his face was seriously starting to hurt now. "Well, not like.. not like - you, but like like, just girls, or people in general, y’know? Um.. You could ask for what movies are currently out, which I could respond with.. like: ‘Oh yeah, we’ll just decide when we go or something.' or.. yeah.”
"The key to confidence lies in moderation--like with most things." Gwen says slowly and carefully, the verbal equivalent of treading lightly, for she feels that she's just heard something she wasn't meant to. "A little confidence is good for the soul, a lot turns into hubris very quickly." Yeah, definitely something she wasn't meant to here. Though luckily he seemed more embarrassed at the sudden turn of the conversation than he was angry or upset--and embarrassed she could live with. Hopefully.
"It's okay. So long as we remember the important things--like how much better this place is and how I'm definitely coming back here." If not for the coffee, then definitely for the company. Hopefully the next time she turned up, it wouldn't take a spilled drink to get a conversation started.
It wasn't like she hadn't sort of seen that coming, Ben was lovely, but he was neither subtle nor suave--merely very lucky that she was finding him so adorably charming. Still, she ended up blushing quite badly, and averting her eyes, taking a moment to make sure she wasn't so tongue tied that she couldn't formulate a proper response. "So Ben, what movies are out right now?" She inquired, still blushing, but a laugh so plainly being held back. At least for now.
“Wow…Oxford huh? That’s in England right? I’m sure you’ve pretty much have that scholarship in the bag. What do you mean Pete is always distracted? He’s not on drugs is he?”
"Yep, all the way in London. I mean, I haven't got it yet but I'm almost there. I think. There's a child genius of some sort involved, but I like to think I can take him. What? No! Well, I don't think he is..."
“ i’m not.. lying. why would you think that ? ”
the poke results in a totally manly squeak, and squirm away. grin lights up facade, as he edges closer, letting his head lazily rest atop her shoulder. hues lift, doe brown peering up into bright cerulean. head wiggles, lips touching shoulder briefly before he offers a cheeky smile.
“ okay, okay. i promise i didn’t find anything embarrassing. ”
"Because you have the worst poker face I have ever seen."
that squeak was perhaps the funniest thing she's ever heard--so needless to say, she laughs at him just a little. or a lot. but she still manages to press a single kiss to his forehead when he finally stops wriggling around so much.
"Of course you didn't. I'm very good at hiding things."
I see your m o n s t e r s, I see your pain tell me your p r o b l e m s, i’ll chase them away I’ll be your l i g h t h o u s e, I’ll make it okay when I see your m o n s t e r s, I’ll stand there so brave and chase them all a w a y...

I'm sorry that I'm a bit funny with activity at the moment, but I promise I'm working on it! I'm especially sorry if I owe you a reply.
Mary Jane Watson Goes Back To Save Gwen Stacy by Nick Perks
“ did not what ? ”
elevated brows depict a playful, albeit faux confused, countenance. truth be told, no, he hadn’t found empty chocolate bar wrappers and notebooks with his name scribbled all fancy like on the cover. he hadn’t found much at all, aside from the expected; school books, novels, stationary, photos. it was her desk, he’d looked at, so it was to be expected.
it wasn’t as if he’d gone searching through her dresser.
"You're such a liar."
and for it he receives a poke in the ribs, as far as he will ever know, he's full of it. he doesn't need to know about the chocolate stash in the locked part of her bedside table--only for emergencies, she told herself--and really, there was no notebook. just a handful of school notes that she'd doodled on, and planned to re-write without aforementioned doodles. and then burn the originals. just on the safe side.
+1 Gwen Stacy [tofallthroughtime]
"A private detective. Of a sort, really. They contacted me with concerns about some cheating taking place - very dull to anyone not intimately involved, I’m sure. Sherlock Holmes." [ Well, aside from him. The case was miles and miles interesting. Perhaps not overly glamorous, but Sherlock didn’t always go for that. He preferred the mental puzzle. He would rather be praised for having solved the impossible murder than the high -profile one - not that this relied on anything so dark as murder. Still, he smiled at her. His eyes flit across her body as they had a habit of doing. He makes several quick notes in his mind.]
"I take it you're used to working on more...exciting cases. It's a pleasure to meet you, Mister Holmes, I do believe I've heard a story or two about you. You're quite famous, even in New York."
[ Oh dear. Leave it to her to stumble into someone else concerned with this vigilante nonsense--well, sort of. Sherlock seemed to be far less dramatic than what seemed to have become the norm in New York, but the same basic principle. Gwen's beginning to feel like she's being examined, trying not to wring her hands together as much as she'd like. ]
It’s easy to feel hopeful on a beautiful day like today, but there will be dark days ahead of us too. There will be days where you feel all alone, and that’s when hope is needed most. No matter how buried it gets, or how lost you feel, you must promise me that you will hold on to hope. Keep it alive.
——”Well.. now we’re at a good start, eh?” he smiled, letting out his own gentle chuckle. Big softies? Eh, she did have a point. He kinda was a softie.. A huge one, nevermind a soft one. Slowly, he reached over for the cream and the sugar, starting to pour and mix into his cup, but arched an eyebrow when she mentioned the infamous coffee shop across from Oscorp. He smirked. "Oh yeah? We have better coffee than those guys? Well, that’s great. But I tell ya one thing we got better than them too," he took a sip of his coffee, and in turn- had a coffee mustache on his upper lip. "We have you." He wrapped his pinkie around hers tight and smiled at her, staring into those crystalline baby blues which really only made him smile more. His face was starting to hurt. "Oh yeah, I think you’ve passed the test. You have gained a Daily Grind seal of approval," Ben laughed. "Speaking of which… welcome to the Daily Grind, Gwen."
"The best." Gwen chirped happily. "Oh come on, you can't even deny it." Yeah, big softie was definitely the phrase she'd use to describe the guy--not that she was going to complain. Actually, she was finding it quite nice. Plus he hadn't sent her on her way without any coffee or making her fork out for another cup, which was definitely a way to win points with her. Interns were tired enough without being denied a decent caffeine fix.
"Everyone says they're good, but I think people just do that because it's what everyone else did. It's so bad." Or maybe she'd just drunk way too much of it at ridiculous hours of the night while drowning in lab reports. Regardless, she was liking this place much better. Gwen smiled brightly, but bit her lip trying to hide it, letting her gaze once again fall on her cup rather than on Ben.
"Ooh, lucky me." She replied, squeezing her finger around his before letting go. "The Daily Grind? Okay, I think this place might have earned it's spot on my daily commute. Great coffee, nice people...what more could a girl ask for?" She was definitely going to have to poke her head in there again, for coffee or for company she wasn't sure of yet.
