a whole lot of perfectly kind, good-hearted people in the U.S. will spout quotes about how we can never let something like the holocaust happen again or about how all life is precious and then these same people will let every ounce of that sentiment FLEE their minds the moment we're talking about someone who's committed a crime. any crime, doesn't matter if it's violent or not. doesn't matter if they're guilty or not. i'll see a news article about horrific human rights violations happening at U.S. detention centers up to and including torture, starvation, and sexual assault, and some lady who volunteers at an animal shelter in her free time reacts to that utterly horrifying story with a laughing emoji. the propaganda machine in the U.S. has completely obliterated the moral fiber of millions upon millions of people, and at some point i swear history books are going to trace our descent into full blown fascism all the way back to our total inability to consider victims of our prison system as human beings
