Choosing a job really hadn’t been an easy task. It was a whole process he’d never had to go through before, not just for lack of want but for lack of need; when you win the lottery, money isn’t a problem. It was unfortunate that he couldn’t just stay home and out of everyone’s way, because aside from having no particularly skills or assets to contribute to a work place, he had the included bonus of being a danger to society. Truly, hiring him would be taking on a liability. In this situation though, nobody really had a say in the matter, so it’d seem that both himself and whoever ended up being his boss were out of luck. Everyone was being counted on to make this world as productive and normal as it could be, after all!
He scanned through a list of occupations in his head, imagining himself in each one.
Bartender? He’d surely give someone the wrong drink, and it would interfere with their meds, and they’d die.
Wedding planner? The caterers wouldn’t get his note and they’d use pistachios despite the bride being allergic, and she’d die.
Build-A-Bear? He’d put too much fluff into a stuffed animal and the child would be so upset that they’d throw a huge tantrum that resulted in their parent suffering a conniption, and they would die.
Barista? He’d spill hot water all over the till, and the till would malfunction and the cashier would get electrocuted, and he’d die.
Fry cook? He’d be cutting up onions, and would accidently get bumped into by a co-worker. Then his hands would fall into the deepfryer as he tried to break his fall, and he’d lunge back in pain, thus making himself trip. This would result in him falling onto a knife, and his manager would rush him to the hospital. On the way to the hospital they’d both get into a car accident, and while he’d miraculously survive all of his injuries, his manager would die.
……..
After a long while of this back and forth in his head, he settled on working at the library. He could think of many ways to die in a library, for sure, but at least he could work in the back with the books and stay clear of people. Out of all possible dangers, this place seemed to have the fewest, so it would have to do.
Of course, there were the occasional, unavoidable moments where he’d be asked to go and do something in the main room. In fact, a shelver had called in sick today and left them understaffed, so this was one of those moments. Komaeda now had the regrettable responsibility of answering anyone and everyone’s questions and complaints regarding absolutely anything.
Having nothing exactly better to do just yet upon his arrival, Togami had decided to kill some time and familiarize himself with the city. While he wasn't exactly impressed with his findings--as it's near impossible to impress the heir, he did manage to find a library, which was something he wasn't about to complain about. Maybe judge severely for specific details after looking around a bit if need be, but that was yet to come.
The heir idly made his way through the shelves, scanning the titles and signs pointing to different sections of the room with numbers for easier labeling, in search of something familiar to occupy his spare time with. This was found to be an increasingly difficult task though, as the titles were all out of the specified order making it near impossible for anyone to find anything via the directories. Come to think of it, the place did seem to have very few people on staff. A lacking crew meant for an inefficient workplace; to be expected. This though, seemed to be the work of someone completely incompetent, or it was the goal of someone to accomplish the very task of making the directories the most useless signs in the entire building.
And what better way to deal with this sudden annoyance than to yell at the nearest staff member who may or may not have had anything to do with it.
"Oi. You."
"Why isn't anything here in order? Is it really that difficult for a moron like you to complete a simple task like organizing a few simple titles?"
