Liberty Taco in Houston
I last reviewed Tacos El Bigotes in March 2020 for Google Maps (https://goo.gl/maps/8AKf7RMS79N4ho5Q9). I’ve eaten there many times since then, and I’m happy to report that this locally owned Mexican restaurant is doing very well. I had a massive trompo burrito, a lengua taco, a fajita taco, and a tripas taco. All were outstanding. With a new menu (photo at end of video), the food is still excellent, and they’ve expanded their space to be about twice the original size. Great staff, great service, good crowds, lots of off-street parking.
Business travelers and immigrants have permanently changed the food scene of America's fourth-largest city. BBQ and boiled crawdads, while still popular, are no longer dominant. Houston has an impressive international food scene, which includes food trucks and specialty markets. For cosmopolitan cuisine, the city rivals Chicago, Los Angeles and New York.
I heard that Teriyaki Kitchen in Houston had amazing tonkotsu ramen noodle soup. I was NOT disappointed! The rich pork broth was heavenly.
Prince's Hamburgers is Houston's most legendary burger restaurant. Popular long before Whataburger or McDonald's existed, Prince's almost went extinct. But it's making a comeback! I ordered their best burger and sat down with one of the owners to learn more about this bit of Houston history.
I've had a lot of pulled pork sandwiches in my time but this is one of the best! The Burger Joint in Houston's Montrose neighborhood offers great casual outdoor dining. The #burgers, fries, milk shakes and more are also amazing. Family friendly environment. For adults, they offer a nice selection of beers on tap. Off-street parking.
Texas is not known for pizza. I moved to Houston nine years ago from Chicago, one of the best cities for pizza, where it seems you can find slices of Chicago-style and/or New York-style on every other block. I’ve had a few good pizzas in Houston, but they’re few and far between. Pizza BY THE SLICE in Houston? Almost non-existent. Walk into most pizza places and ask for a slice and they’ll look at you like you’ve got three heads. So, when I heard there was a great pizzeria in downtown Houston that serves New York-style pizza slices, I jumped on a train to go see for myself. Frank’s Pizza did not disappoint. I focus only on their pizza here, but they offer much more. In my opinion, Frank’s is one of the best restaurants in Houston, and certainly serves one of Houston’s best pizzas.
Looking for camel milk? Or a whole lamb's head? I explored a Middle Eastern grocery store in Houston that sells that and much, much more. Almadina Supermarket is a must-visit stop for anyone, Muslim or not, to find delicacies and treats that you just won't find in "mainstream" grocery stores. From spices, sweets to nuts, meats to treats, freshly cooked food and hot flat breads, Almadina has something for everybody. 💥 Also, please see my blog post about Almadina at https://tomeatshouston.blogspot.com/2...
Hot and Sour wonton soup. Broth and wontons made myself.
That combination of the wontons and soup is amazing.
When is a burger not a burger? When it's a "Chinese burger."
