i wasnt the one spreading hate i just was the one who noticed

please explain to me in detail how "i don't think this game is as good as people say, and people getting mad at me for this opinion has made me like the game less" is 'spreading hate'. you're not allowed to use memetic sentence structure

i honestly dont think people are mean to her. i think she slandered celeste in a pretty thoughtless and heartless way, failed to empathize with other people, and when the natural result of that is other ppl share their voice at her she interprets it as an attack. and maybe it is an attack some of the time, i dunno. do you think we should attack bad ideas, or should we try to approach them in a comfortable and safer way in order to manifest a more healthy way of working through it? if you answered the latter, you officially disagree with patty’s celeste take.

you are very loudly saying that cyberbullying is only ok when people you agree with do it. "patricia didnt like a game and that's Evil, so it's okay to relentlessly hound her about why everything she believes is bad forever even and especially when we're trying to talk about different things"

the post basically said 'the popular reception to celeste makes me disappointed, because i thought it wasn't phenomenal gameplaywise or storywise and yet when i try to voice that opinion i get thousands of people screaming at me trying to quash my opinion under the guise of free speech' and you being opposed to that is not the take you think it is

I stand by everything I said about Celeste in my getting over it essay, except for the part where I said the story was good. I don't really think it's that good anymore.

After so many years of commenters misconstruing my points into some elitist proclamation that the game just wasn't hard enough for me, I just don't care anymore. It's the most overrated game I've ever played. It's the definition of unambitious serviceability. A masterclass in level design and programming yet refusing to communicate anything beyond a brisk mechanical challenge with occasional breaks reading an equally serviceable fluffy visual novel, presented in parallel but failing to integrate into the experience of play in any way. It's not too easy, far from it, Celeste's difficulty is very present yet it exists without texture. It is frictionless, passive, unmemorable outside of a few striking exceptions where maddy finally allowed the levels to meaningfully punish the player for failure. It's "Fun" but unfortunately that isn't enough anymore.

"You said that Celeste is like making baby steps up a hill with a safety net behind you, but don't you know that this is actually how you cope with mental illness irl???" Really? is a struggle with mental illness supposed to be a cleanly designed funbox polished to a mirror sheen with a billion quality of life adjustments hardcoded into the movement? Do your panic attacks allow for coyote-time? I want the version of mental illness you fuckers are talking about.

That getting over it video was my first *really* personal piece, and almost all the comments are people mischaracterizing me and whining about the fact a youtuber doesn't think the official internet approved wholesome game is 100% perfect. it makes me sick to think about it.

Lots to like about this one. The playful glyphs and grafting of tool elements provide a lot of opportunity to mix and match variants, along with being a great anchoring point for much of the motion graphics in the OP. Further elevating it is the default muted orange and blue color palette, an already reliable color contrast, which here evokes denim work overalls and wood tones. The youthful among us will also probably find comfort in the Y glyph looking a lot like the titular Y.

Mixed color palettes are seen across merchandise, along with a much more buttoned-down iteration on the theme songs CD.

My son once came back from a record shop visit with his uncle and with wide eyes and excited smile presented me with a cassette tape. “Look what I found!” As though he’d unearthed ancient pottery at a dig sight.

I love it. I love when my kids discover something that I take for granted. I hear songs with new ears because they are in a state of wonder. My son played me “Paint it Black” the other day, I’m like yeah Rolling Stones so what? And then I see his face and that LOOK like he just discovered sunsets and he’s like yeah but listen to this part, listen to the guitar right here - and I hear a song anew. Like watching a puppy see a bird for the first time, and oh oh right yeah birds are fucking amazing, forgot about that.

I think this is largely why “react” channels on YouTube have become so popular. Watching someone experience something you love for the first time is exciting. Rediscovering that thing through their eyes is also exciting.
