Critique #7: With no doubt this is my absolute favourite photo. The strong use of movement in this photo from the bubbles and the dress help convey such a strong message to the photo. However, there is an awkward line where her left hand is and after my eyes noticed it, it was all I payed attention to. Other then that one thing I believe everything else in this photo is perfect.
Critique #6: This by far is one of the most empowering photos that Toni took. This picture was taken during WWII and the message from this photo is showing how confused children can be when war is going on around them. The use of a rake instead of a broom is very powerful in this pictures because it truly does demonstrate the misunderstanding and misconception that children often have about these subjects. The dust clouds around the little girl help the photo because the opacity of the dust cloud is very low allowing us to almost see through to the blank wall. I have nothing negative to say about this photo other than I believe that there is a bit too much negative space after that final dust cloud.
Critique #5: This is Toni's most popular image. Personally, I believe that this is also one of her strongest images. I believe that the white dress helps create a balance between the negative lighting in the photo and the reflection directly above it creates a haunting story about how a girl in nearly drowning. However, I feel as if there is an awkward cut off of the girls face from the water. I personally, want to know what the models facial expression would be in this photo.
Other then that, I believe that the use of space is strong and the image is beautiful.
Critique #4: This is personally my favourite photo that Toni took. It's so fun and she took so many risks in this photo that all worked together very well. I believe that her playing with the amount of space she had helped create a funny, adventurous and very fun image. I especially love the use of motion with the dog jumping in the air. Not only was the dog a huge risk but it really helped make the photo as successful as I think it turned out to be. However, as much as I do love the image, in the beginning, my eyes were drawn to the black bathing suites on the far right and slowly I moved my eyes away to the dog. I feel like the darker bathing suites don't really work with this image.
Critique #3:
Personally this isn't my favourite photo that Toni took. I believe that there is too much negative space in the photo and that she played it rather safe by having a centre composition. As well, my eye immediately jumps to the dark sky and then to the bright dress in the picture. However, one thing that does seem to grab my attention in the photo is the singular tree on the right far hand side of the photo. This could be a message of isolation but I am unsure. The texture of the girls dress looks very coarse and very elegant.
Critique #2: In this photo I believe Toni took a risk with the composition. She decided to make it in the Rule of Thirds and that helps make the image more fun. However, the ocean is considered negative space in the picture and I believe that the ocean is taking up a lot of the picture. The models bathing suit in this photo has lots of texture and appears to be very shiny as well as the puppies in the pictures hairs appear to be very fair. I believe her theme is that you're never too young to want to explore as well humans aren't the only things that want to explore. The rope in the photo shows that the girl might want to tie herself to adventure and I believe that helps the photo a lot. I believe this is one of Toni's stronger pieces.
Critique #1: In this photo I really feel like that the photo is trying to convey travel, and calmness. The scenery really helps convey the theme because nothing is more peaceful then just staring at a calming scenery of mountains and hills. However, immediately my eye is drawn to the sweater that is nearly cut off in the photo, the sweater takes away from the girl because it is much darker than anything else in the photo. I believe that the model's pose helped convey the calmness because she looks very relaxed and at peace in the picture.
