Yes I have seen the āEd Geinā show and yes I am beyond annoyed with its portrayal of Tony Perkins. I had a whole rant prepared but honestly I am just hoping that the masses at large realize that Ryan Murphy is not to be trusted with ANY characters based on real people at this point and will take it with a large grain of salt. Having said that, this is the second on-screen portrayal of Tony in the last two decades (the first being the 2012 movie Hitchcock) that has tried to claim that he and Alfred Hitchcock had this tense relationship where Hitch was constantly trying to troll Tony or make him uncomfortable wrt his sexuality and that is simply NOT. TRUE. They had a very congenial relationship and Tony himself often made crude jokes on set WITH Hitchcock to make Janet Leigh laugh/blush. There were a lot of other gross inaccuracies in that series but I donāt feel like getting into them atm and also that casting was terrible. The End.
this is the main thing keeping me from watching the monster. the way Psycho and vicariously, Tony, are shown makes me feel really uncomfortable. Iāve seen clips and it just puts me off watching bc of how inauthentic it seems. most of you will know how much I love Tony and his films, and how much I appreciate his talent and wit and resonate with many of the challenges he faced in an industry that constantly stigmatized him both before and after Psycho.
thanks @kateofthecanals for sharing your thoughts I wanted to talk about this and couldnāt find the words but you said it perfectly. Hitchcock and Tonyās close friendship is well documented and I hope people do the research and understand that they shared a great mutual respect, and Hitch really trusted Tonyās advice with bringing Norman to life.
he let Tony pick Normanās clothes, took Tonyās advice for the candy corn motif, let Tony add his own ticks and reactions ie. the creepy smile he does when Arbogast drives away, and so on. it makes me genuinely mad that literally 65 years later, Psycho is being misconstrued and Tony is misrepresented in the media.
ppl can surely disagree with me, thatās totally fine.
YOU SPOKE MY MIND
i love how in psycho ii norman kept serving face and looks
Tony in the early 80s cry cry
which of Tonyās movies did you hate but watched only for him?
ok so this is gonna be a hot take (kinda) but green mansions is probably my least favourite Tony movie because he and Audrey had SUCH CHEMISTRY and the MOST ICONIC LOOKS (Exhibit A)
BUT THEY ABSOLUTELY wasted these two and their chemistry on a terrible plot. I would have loved to see them in a chic Parisian film where Audrey plays a fashion executive and Tony plays a journalist whose critical of her fashion but then thereās a whole enemies to lovers angle bc theyāre both really intellectual, sensitive people who could play those dynamic roles.
I AGREE SO MUCH, the movie didnāt age well at all, and they deserved a way better movie.
like they both served beauty in every single way, and that beauty would have been much better in the type of movie that you are talking about.
