Wing Commander Johnny Johnson, the RAF's top scoring fighter pilot in NW Europe, and his Labrador, Sally.
At the time of the photograph he had 35 victories, but would end the war with a recorded 38. He commanded No 127 Wing, which was composed of three Canadian Spitfire squadrons.
