Screen printing on heavyweight cotton hoodies involves several steps to ensure high-quality results. Here’s a step-by-step guide for the process:

• Create a design on graphic design software (like Adobe Illustrator or Photoshop). Ensure it is optimized for screen printing with clear lines and color separations.
• Print the design onto a transparent film or stencil, which will be used to make the screen.
2. Screen Preparation
• Choose the screen mesh: Select a mesh screen suitable for your design’s details. For cotton hoodies, a mesh count of 110-160 works well, depending on the ink type and design complexity.
• Coat the screen with a photosensitive emulsion. Spread the emulsion evenly across the screen and let it dry in a dark room.
3. Expose the Screen
• Place the transparency (with the design printed on it) on the emulsion-coated screen. Expose the screen to UV light. The areas where the design is black block the light, and the emulsion stays soft there, while the exposed areas harden.
• Wash the screen with water to remove the soft emulsion, leaving a stencil of your design on the screen.
4. Set Up the Screen and Hoodie
• Align the hoodie: Place the heavyweight cotton hoodie on a platen (a flat surface). Ensure it is smooth, and align it correctly where the print will go.
• Fix the screen on the printing press, ensuring the screen lines up with the position where the print should be placed on the hoodie.
5. Ink Application
• Choose the right ink: Plastisol ink is commonly used for printing on cotton hoodies because it provides durable and vibrant prints.
• Flood the screen: Load the screen with ink using a squeegee and flood the design area, ensuring the ink covers the stencil evenly.
6. Print the Design
• Pull the squeegee across the screen while applying firm pressure to push the ink through the stencil onto the hoodie.
• Lift the screen to reveal the printed design on the hoodie. Repeat the process if you are doing multiple colors, using a different screen for each color.
7. Curing the Ink
• Cure the print by running the hoodie through a conveyor dryer or heat press at the recommended temperature (usually around 320°F/160°C) for plastisol inks to ensure the ink sets and bonds to the fabric.
8. Final Check and Cleanup
• Inspect the print: Check the print for any imperfections or misalignments.
• Clean the screens: After printing, clean the screens immediately with screen cleaner and water to preserve them for future use.
