I hate how the bsd fandom tends to mischaracterize Sigma bc he’s one of my favorite characters, and a LOT of fanfics I’ve read have him mischaracterized as this like…soft, easily flustered, somewhat romantically/sexually oblivious character, and and the way it’s written just feels icky. Like it’s not at ALL who he is and it’s written in a way that feels like a fetish.

Is he awkward, sure. Is he inexperienced in certain aspects, yes. Is a soft little bean who doesn’t know anything about relationships at all? NO. He worked at a casino and experienced shit in the criminal underworld, he’s seen stuff.

Speaking of which, I feel like people gloss over his backstory way too much—one of his first interactions with humanity after spawning in was being forced into a crime ring that I believe partook in human trafficking (if I remember correctly). WHY DOES NOBODY TALK ABOUT THIS??? Like he probably knows all kinds of code words and such from that time in his life, I’d bet he could identify a sketchy individual INCREDIBLY easily and probably was the reason so many criminals in his casino got kicked out before they could do anything (personal headcannon of mine).

There’s also a separate rant that I have about how much ftm!Sigma content I’ve seen (which, to clarify, I’m COMPLETELY fine w/ that headcannon, I just feel like others might be using it for…weird reasons) but that’s it’s own rant that also ties more into a bigger rant about how trans people are treated by media in general sooo…maybe some other time.

Anyway.

I just want good content of my fav, I’m sorry. Im tired of these mischaracterizations.

Anyway, I’m in the process of reading the literature pieces the characters are based off and at the time of posting this I’m currently about halfway through The Murders in the Rue Morgue and am already drawing too many similarities between the relationship between main character and Dupin and the relationship between bsd Poe and Ranpo, so…I fear a new AU may be growing in the corners of my mind.

Also Edgar Allan Poe, you are NOT slick, you knew EXACTLY what you were doing when you wrote those characters like that, and I’m not taking no for an answer there, you explicitly stated that their feelings aren’t romantic because you KNEW how their actions made it seem, you just needed to get the feds off your back.
